PSA: WEAR A HELMET

You know if this thread would have been made 3-5 years ago, half the responses would have been people shitting on helmets. Everybody hit their heads a few times and grew up lol

True

Got a TBI/skull fracture/subdural hematoma in the winter in an unrelated non-skiing accident. Wish I was wearing my ski helmet.

Everybody they says they don't fall cause they're too good; I remember an old coach saying "if you're not falling you're not trying hard enough." If you've never fallen on skis you're either a liar or you're trash. I'll always wear one, I've blown out on skiouts hitting side hits and slipping out on ice, you never know when weird shit can happen.

Growing up I remember hearing the "Helmets aren't cool but you have to wear them" spiel. Nowadays when I see someone riding without a helmet I automatically assume that they're either trying too hard to get gnar points, or they're just a clueless gaper in a fur coat.

Hey I was just about to buy a fur coat from Goodwill :(

For those who haven’t watched it yet, look up the Hugh Fives documentary called “#HelmetsAreCool”. Still hasn’t aged even in 2018.

I also came close to getting a fat concussion when I caught an edge and smacked my head on an icy landing two years ago. If I wasn’t wearing a helmet, I probably would be a vegetable at this point. I always wear my helmet whenever I’m on the hill, and it also sets a good example for the kids when I teach skiing, too.

Lastly, for everyone preaching about helmets with the MIPS system, it’s definitely worth spending the few extra bucks on it. Traditional helmets that have a hard shell are done when you first hit your head with it on. With the MIPS system, it’ll still absorb the impact and will be the same after the first impact it absorbs, allowing you to save money over time and not have to spend more money on a new helmet when you smack your head on ice or on a rail.

skiing is a lot faster of a sport than like skateboarding. Helmet is not a bad idea if you can afford it.
