PS3/YLOD DIY Fix?

My playstation 3 recently got the YLOD, or yellow light of death. Has anyone ever tried to fix it themselves, or hire someone else besides Sony to fix it? I called Sony and they want 120 bucks to fix it, which I am not willing to pay because I don't think I should pay for a problem I didn't cause. My model is the 80gig original(the fat one). Please let me know of your experiences in trying to fix your PS3's. Thank You,

I do alot of independent console repair and i can tell you that even though i have done it 20-30 times, and have become fairly fluid in the process, its a better deal to just pick up a new ps3 off of craigslist ha

Thanks for the advice, so pretty much you are just saying that it is pretty complex, right? Is there any harm in trying myself? I was checking out craigslist and most would cost much more than 120 dollars, so I don't know if buying one of there would be the best option.

Put it in the microwave for exactly 4 seconds wrapped in a damp towel, it worked for me.
