Ps3...360?

alright so basically i am a deprived little boy and don't have a ps3 OR 360. i am really thinking of getting the 40GB ps3, it's $399. can some people give me the pros and cons of both, like people who have played them. not just 360 pwnz ps3 n00b. (yes i am expecting that answer now...)

anyways i am going to get one or the other coming up soon, and don't want to fuck up and get something i regret. ps3 is barely anymore money and seems to be the best buy...anyways all help is appreciated.

i just got the 360 on the weekend and love it! i think it has more games and is cheaper. The PS3 is more expencsive but comes with live for free unlike to xbox where you have to pay $50 and buy a wireless adapter for $100. also xbox has halo and gears of war. hope that helps
 
personally i like the 360, but mostly because i've played it more, we have ps3 also, and we just got GTA4 for it, and it is pretty sick. I can't tell the difference in graphics
 
I have a 360 and have played the ps3. I'd say in terms of performance they're about equal, maybe a slight edge to the ps3. I'd have to say 360 definitely has the better games. I also think the online is much better for 360. Although you have to pay, the service is more than worth it as xbox live is sick. If you're gonna be playing online and with friends a lot, xbox is definitely the way to go, but if you're just gonna be playing by yourself, its a toss up or whatever you like better. I have at least 10 friends with 360's that I play with online, and only one has a ps3, so getting a ps3 would suck because I couldn't play online with them.
 
360, sure live cost money, but its worth it. Then you got Halo 3, Gears of War,IMO wayyyy better than anything PS3's got....

 
id say the 360. I think the ps3 has better graphics, but the xbox has better games. xbox live doesnt cost taht much money, just dont blow 100 dollars on a wireless adapter, wireless is bad just hook it up with an ethernet cable
 
i have a ps3 and my suitemate has a 360. we definitely play ps3 more. the graphics are slightly better, the system is slightly better, but in terms of games, i think halo3 and gears of war may shift it. i'mnot sure if xbox will get metal gear solid, but that game alone might make you change your mind. i'm definitely content with my ps3, call of duty, skate, and soon gta. i know they're on both, but i just like sony so i got one. i think it should depend on what your friends have and if you wanna play with them.
 
i just got a xbox 360 also. its sick. you can get a xbox 360 w/ 1 wireless controller and a memory card for 280. kick ass deal
 
I have a ps3 and i like it because it has wireless internet and because its controlers dont take AA batteries. with a ps3 all you have to do is connect the controllers to the ps3 with a usb and it will charge your battery and you can use the controller while its charging. my friend (a jew, also known as Mooose... on ns) and his brother have a 360 and he is such a jew about his batteries. he wont let his brother or his friends use his controler because he doesn't want the batteries to go dead because he doesn't want to buy new batteries.

I'll try to keep this organized...

1- Performance - From my experiences playing both PS3 wins out here if only slightly. On IGN's review of GTA 4 they said the PS3 had no load times (where as Xbox does) and the graphics are slightly better. Also, PS3 potential is much higher, it also uses BluRay discs which beats out HDDVD or whatever 360 uses.

2- Games - For some reason when this argument comes up Xbox fan boys only mention two games: Halo 3 and GOW. Halo 3 was a huuuuge bust and Gears Of War is past it. The best shooter out there right now is COD4 which is on both consoles. Also, most big games these days are cross platform, Bungie even split ties with M$ this past winter which leaves the door open for a new cross platform Halo-esque game. Plus, PS3 has it's exclusives as well namely MGS4.

3- Online Play - I haven't played much Xbox live but from what I've seen both online services are extremely similar. I never have any problem finding games or whatever else I'm looking for on PSN. You don't have to pay for Playstation Network either.

4- Life Expectancy - This is what did it for me. I'll admit I bought an Xbox 360 when Halo 3 came out. The system broke down beyond repair (RROD) within a month with minimal playing time, I'd say maximum 3-5 hours a week. I've heard the failure rate of Xbox's is somewhere around 30% which is just disgusting for something from such a big company that you are paying 400$ for.

5- Price - When I bought my 360 PS3's were still a good 100$ more. Now they are virtually the same price in terms of their lower end models, plus the PS3 has more hard drive space.

6- Multimedia - Not too sure about his one because I don't really care about demos, pictures, videos, etc. PS3 does have BluRay though which won the battle of next-gen movie formats.

evryone has 360s so live is awesome and ps3 is ok but 360 is way more worth the $ and dont get ps3 for blue ray movies cuz thier CRAZY expensive
 
just a heads up, i realized you don't need the 100 dollar adapter, just get a wireless internet usb adapter from amazon for like 20 bucks and it works fine, just a little money saver brought to my attention by mrtskier
 
Halo 3 and GOW big deal....

PS3 has the best games coming out these next couple of weeks. GTA already released, Grand Turismo, Metal Gear Solid 4, SOCOM CONFRONTATION!, and theres a couple more but i cant remember them. I have 360 and ps3 and i definitely have to say that the ps3 is the best system made so far.
 
360 has and will continue to have better games, graphics wise there more or less identical, personally I love my 360 and the games are much better like GoW2 wich is coming out later this year fable 2, so much good stuff if you nerdy like me :D

i have a 360 and i love it. but also look at what any of your friends have. at my school theres about one kid with a ps3, and a ton of people with 360's, so it makes live a lot more fun when you can play with your homies
 
its not stupid, its true. All my friends have 360's so if I got a ps3 I wouldn't be able to play with them, which is a pretty big deal.
 
get a 360 if you want to pay for online and deal with a system that will break on you and freeze on you all the time

get a ps3 if you want free online and a bluray player
 
Fair enough, at least there line up is getting better, but most of the games I would look forward to playing arn't out yet, once those come out though the PS3 should have a steady line up. God of War 3 should be super fun along with ratchet MSG4 and jak and daxter. Grand turismo is always fun, Killzone should be good considering it should actually be playable now, motor storm is good, never played ninja gaiden but it looks fun. Once another Resident Evil comes out that should be good too.

P.S I'm not a halo fanatic, I thought you said that it would come over and I just said it wouldn't, then I realized that you said halo-esque, which could be possible, so sorry. So I guess in conclusion you should make your decision based of that lineup and the 360 upcoming for a few is GoW2 Fable 2 and a few other things I'm sure I'm forgetting but star wars force unleashed is coming out on multiple platforms too and that should be great. So basically base it off that list if you want to look at games, personally I like shooters better on the 360 because of the controller set up but thats all personal preference, good luck choosing
 
i've played both, the only reason i would chose xbox over ps3 is because you can play your own music with games, but the ps3 has better graphics and just as many fun games. and once they come out with the new firmware to allow you to listen to music in gameplay, it will be the better of the two in my opinion.
 
From what I read in the magazines and like everyone is saying, they are identical except for a few better things on the PS3's side. Like technically graphics are better but I dont think I would know that if I wasnt told. PS3 also is steping up its game (no pun intended) when it comes to games. If you got yourself a PSP there Shawn you can somehow use it with it too. Im not to sure what it does but I know you can do something with it
 
why would even buy a game console at a time like right now. Buy one like in the winter when you have nothing to do, AND YOU ARE NOT SKIING. Summers commin up and hopefully you will be outside every minute you can. Rather then playing xbox or playstation, buying something for outdoors sounds like a better idea to me. But that's just me, I was just trying to help you out....

there is no halo for ps3, which huge imo. plus many more people have xbox. but if a lot of your friends have ps3, i would get it. my buddy has both, and hes always been a ps guy, but he recently got an xbox and only plays on that now
 
This year is supposed to be the year of the PS3 in terms of games. Yes 360 has the ps3 in games, but has also been out about a full year longer. the only good game 360 has coming out is Gears 2. Plus i wouldnt buy a 360 until the one with a bluray player comes out (soon). Bluray is the way of the future. Go PS3
 
Dude never once had a problem with my PS3 online, exept when my router was overloaded...ie. we have 6 comps and 2 systems on it

I have a ps3 and prefer it. But heres my 2 cents. If you're about the single player games, or generally just game split screen or alone, get a ps3. If you are a multiplayer guy, get whatever you're friends are playing. And if none of your friends game, but like multiplayer, get an xbox 360.
 
Really? More ppl play it? is that because it had a whole year under its belt before PS3 came out? I think you will find no shortage of ppl to play with on the PSN
 
I just bought a refurbished premium 360 from FYE for 175$ but it already red lighted so I sent it back. The quality of the 360's is shitty, but I don't think you can beat cod4 or halo3

Blu-ray has beaten hd dvd. no more hd-dvd players are being made now, aka xbox 360 is obselete.

+ any other blu ray player you'll find is 500$ or more.

ps3 has almost all of the same games as xbox 360, is technologically superior, and around the same cost.

ps3 will be around for alot longer too and you can use it for movies in the future and such

i dont have an xbox 360, ps3 or wii, so i'm not biasing based on that
 
i will also go to say that anybody who uses the argument more people they know have 360s.

360 is set up to continually suck money from you with online play and dloadable content, and they are shit quality and overheat unless you buy extra fans and crap for it.

but i have neither so i would take either one
 
Pretty much get a PS3 if you like playing games by yourself, PS3 gets a lot of the games like final fantasy, mgs4, god of war and stuff like that, they get good single player games. Get xbox360 if you wanna play with your friends and play shooters and stuff, xbox gets soooo many shooter and multiplayer games. However xbox is getting NINJA GAIDEN II biatches, soo much better than mgs4 and god of war.
 
So your saying because people like to play games online with their friends its bad? I dont think it was set up to be an argument. They just said that was a reason 360 appealed to them.
 
sorry guys i haven't been home all day. anyways thanks for all of the advice thus far. i am really leaning hard towards a ps3, like almost positive that's what i want to get. as far as gears or war, i hated the game and halo 3 as well. i didn't hate halo but it just didn't interest me as much.

the game thing isn't too much of a deal, all i would probably by no matter what console i got would be COD4, GTA 4 and the new socom game coming out. so the whole game issue isn't a big decider.

what is really making me go towards a ps3 is the performance aspect. it has much higher capabilities, which haven't been met yet whereas the 360 is pretty much maxed out. (i think) plus 360's shit the bed so often, and just all out aren't built as well.

most of my friends have 360s, well actually a little more than half. say about 60% have them. and my good friends, who i would enjoy playing online with more anyways have ps3's as well.

online is kinda nice for ps3 since it is free. although i have heard that xbox live is a lot nicer setup and just all around better, which i would have to say is somewhat true. i like it a little more, but i am perfectly content with ps3's online as well.

the blueray thing is kind of a bonus if you will towards ps3 in my opinion. i usually just download my movies from the internet so it wouldn't matter much to me but the option is always there, which is nice.

the price is seriously almost the same now for a ps3 and 360, within $50 or $100 (can't remember exactly) and it holds way more shit as well.

idk i am pretty sure i want to buy a ps3 at the moment...any 360 man wanna prove me wrong here or something haha?
 
well actually i do not need anything else to buy for outside? i mean a car in like fucking december but i'm working all summer to save up for that. don't need new ski equipment besides a helmet. and i really want to play some shit, plus my birthday is in june so my parents might chip in/buy it if they want to be really nice. oh and it's not like i'm gonna be outside everyday this summer...so yeah
 
i dont know about that...ninja gaiden is sick, but mgs4 is gonna make my nuts explode. ive played mgs3 throug hprob 10 times and am still doing it when i get into video game mode.
 
i just got a 360, so don't make me regret it. i couldn't give up halo and other than that i really don't care. they each have their pros and cons so it's a pointless argument, i really thing it's personal preference. i personally like halo and the controllers better on the 360. but, have you had issues with your 360 breaking? it seems like a lot of people complain about them dying
 
yea thats why i didn't even consider a 360. i don't wanna send my shit in when it breaks every 5 months. the only problem i'm having with the quality of my ps3 is the controllers. its not because they're shitty, its because i live in a dorm at college and we're drunk idiots.

on one, the left joystick leans to the left a little (i could probably open it and see whats wrong, i'm almost positive my roommates just tried to throw it the length of our room and it dropped...). the other controller, the joystick is way worn in and sticks up and to the left a little. between the 6 of us that play call of duty, we have like 12 days logged in on it, which is absolutely pathetic. i probably only have like 2 of those days, i barely even play haha. i mean, they're straight up until like what, 300 hours on one game (i have resistance skate madden nba and some other shit i didn't take into account). well fuckin worth our time and money.
 
I've noticed that on my PS2, the analog sticks come loose after a while, I just pull them up and then click them down and it fixes it
 
if it was supposed to be, it definitely isn't now. and i don't see that changing in the near future.
 
ps3s are legit. the graphics are amazing and wireless controlers last forever. there are tons of great games and they are reliable. another great thing is that you can hook up a mouse and keyboard with the usb ports and use it as a computer, like useing your tv as a monitor. you can go on ns and stuff.i would highly suggest one. plus live is free.
