First of yes i do realize that not all wars are good. In fact very few ARE. But the revolutionary was necessary, along with the cival and WWII(it was a terrible war but necasary for the US to join). I was refereing to the earlier wars that shaped the roots for our country. That wasnt my point, my point was merely that it is stupid to listen to a small group of ppl(no matter who they are) and think thats which way they should vote. These ppl sign a piece of paper and say we are voting for Kerry and you expect me to sway my vote for just 48 ppl. Do you not see how stupid THAT is my friend?

48 regular people shouldn't sway your vote. however, when it's 48 of teh most highly regarded scientist and experts in the WORLD saying that Bush is wrecking science, and Kerry wants to fix that, THAT should weigh heavily on your opinion. I'll see if I can dig up an article that describes how Bush is destroying science to benifit big business AND go along with his religious morals. So it is you my friend who is blind in your ways.

Well it just so happens that his morals in those areas are pretty close to my morals, so I am fine with that. Christopher Reeves doesn't need to be sucking down stem cells, and I believe that regardless of who signs a letter.

that sucks. Here's my problem with him using his morals to make decisions. He's suposed to represent the country, as a whole, and in a country where there are hundreds, if not thousands of different religions, belief systems, etc. it is a very poor decision, if not stupid, to base some of your decisions around it. Especially when he's ruining scientific reasearch which could lead to lots of different things. It's not just stem cell reasearch that he's slowing progress on either, I'll try to find an article that talks about all the other crap he's pulled.

Melvs, that attitude (he represents my beliefs, my interests) is a popular ones among right-wingers because it's extremely self-centred. 'He represents MY interests, he shares MY beliefs', etc etc, with no regard for what is best for the country as a whole, or for the world as a whole. You can't really blame these people, it's just one way of looking at an election. I'd prefer not to overlook the good of others when voting, but that's just me.

We are going to motherfucking Mars, what more could you ask for. Seriously we are takeing some positive steps when it comes to space exploration, and you can't deny that. As for the enviromental aspect of the Union of Concerned Scientists (what a funny title)I don't think bush has an excuse. I am an enviormentalist (one of the two areas I differ from the right) and I think he should take steps to provide a cleaner enviroment. However, I am not willing to sacrifice my nation to the rest of the liberal ideals that the opposing candidates are supporting just because of my enviromentalism. I think it would be great if we could clean this shit up, but the costs are too great from my perspective, so I will take Bush over the enviroment until their is a conservative enviromentalist pothead running for president, then he gets my vote.

I respect the opinion of these 48 noble prize winning scientists. I respect their intelligence, their perspective, their commitment, and their desire to progress technology as we know it. HOWEVER, when reading anything from a 'special interest group', you must take into consideration what those interests are and how it is going to affect their judgement. I thought these scientist's interest was pretty apparent in what they said.

Did you catch the 'by reducing funding' part? Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Bush is compromising our future. Bush is going to singlehandedly stop all technological advances because he is going to reduce government wasting. We are wasting billions of dollars on science. I say wasting because that is exactly what we are doing. We can accomplish the same result and save millions of dollars by being more efficient. If you haven't noticed, we are in a deficit. What we need is to restructure, spend less, and make things more efficient - and that is what Bush is doing.

and what a surprise, some scientists are upset at Bush because they don't want to be more efficient and/or restructure. They would much rather keep doing things the way it has been and be able to waste as much as they want.

As blunt as it is, it's true.

Um, no. I don't think spending 80 billions dollars in Iraq is quite efficient spending. Nor is wasting money on an ineffective No Child Left Behind Act based on standardized testing. Think before you say anything like Bush is spending less.

On a lighter note, people need to take the pictures of both Bush and Kerry a little more lightly. Personally I think they are all quite funny, even if they are completely falsified.

I feel we should be spending alot less on science and learn how to accomplish things more efficiently. Allow me to say this again; Bush is in fact SPENDING LESS (in regards to science. which is what I have been talking about all along). Look, I even made the 'reducing funding' part bold so you could catch it.

And about this 80 billion..

Go look at the plan and the details outlining the 80 billion and where each dollar is going to be spent. If you did, you would see the majority of this money goes right back into American economy providing work for American contractors.
