Proud of Skiing

For the first time in a long long time I think I'm confident in saying that skiers are now on par (and surpassing) snowboarders in most on hill aspects. It took us awhile, but whenever I watch skiers IN THE PARK, I think we look better with our jump tricks and on rails. I like whats happened over the years with our general style of grabs, rotations, axis', slides, creativity, shiftys, etc, etc.

Yeah, yeah skiers influence snowboarders and snowboarders influence skiers. Its not a matter of who did it first, but I'm just psyched to see that skiers are starting to hold their own.

ive been thinking the same thing exept when i see shaun white in the pipe. that still depresses me about skiing a little, but well get there.

i like how skiers can do double backflips way easier than snowboarders too!! im not saying they cants its just more common with skiers and its perfected by skiers

whys that?

whats so amazing about it?

a good point has been raised by a friend of mine who said that its only logical for skiers to surpass snowboarders, we have a much more useable and stable base, making it easier for us to move ourselves in different ways much easier than snowboarders, also skiers are proven to go faster

meaning bigger jumps, bigger tricks, smoother landings, and more fluid style than snowboarders can physically achieve

until around this year, skiers were simply catching up with snowboarding, but now we're progressing faster than ever and already are or are about to be past snowboarding

snowboarders have more fun.

muhahaha! you can take the skier out of racing, but you can't take the racing out of the skier.

no - i don't fully believe what I just said - but I like the way snowboarders have fun more than the skiers way... in a way.

seriously, im way more stoked to see a skier doing all crazy kind of pretzel and nollie things on a rail than a snowboarder doing 50-50 or w/e..

im proud too.

at my mountain, you can't go in the park without bein called a "fag" or bein told "hey dumbass get out the park" by a snowboarder. I tried to get a job as park crew and got told that skiiers dont know anything about park. We are finally gettin out there that were equal to them and not just people who go fast down flat hills

yeah dude i totally agree and with the improvements in pow skis we can ride pow just as well or better

I never thought snowboarding looked as cool as skiing in powder. I noticed this too though, I'm proud to be a skier, and happy to see where it's at now. I tried snowboarding, I really didn't enjoy it as much.

i agree were killing it, but.

we've only just begun to nollie and ollie. it is totally acceptable to just hop of your feet like a frog, and slide directly over your feet, as long as it has a pretzel or a switchup in it....i mean, snowboarders do nollie backlip tailpress blindside switchup nosepress as a warm up trick. have you ever seen a skier do 270 on to tailpress pretzel out?

i found myself thinking that exact same thing today when i watched mike hornbecks keystone remix with Joe Mango i mean those are probably two of the most accurate represntations of skiing and snowboarding and i was just like wow skiing is so much cooler im so happy i ski and dont snowboard.
Here is a link to the edit im talking about

Not that it's a competition.... But yeah, we got something going here that is something to be stoked on thats for sure!

YES, i was thinking about this last night. When i was in middle school and people would find out i ski they would make fun of me and i was always felt kinda outcasted you know. But ive realised that now when people find out they either think its tight, or if they do make fun of it then i know that they have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. Now all my snowboarder friends are getting into skiing culture and watching ski edits and shit.

As much as I'd like to agree with you I can't. There are only of handful of skiers that have style that I like, the rest seem really generic but in snowboarding I feel like there are so many different styles which make snowboarding a lot more fun to watch. Skiing will progress but its a lot slower than I'd like.

Yeah I think we've passed snowboarders in a lot of ways. PLUS I love skating past snowboarders who are stuck hopping on the flats haha.

i am actually seeing this myself. i have seen through the years that we do have lots of style and getting more recognition from people.

I always find a snese of pride in skiing when I get props from a snowboarder, it makes me really happy to see that at a higher level we are becoming closer and feeding of one another too. I agree skiing is definetly becoming something to be proud of more than ever.

Agreed. But i would also like to add that each and every one of us owe it to snowboarding. If it wasnt for those single plankers, skiing would have been dead 10 years ago. There would be no newschooler movement. There would be no terrain park, or rails. We gotta give props where they are deserved. Thank you snowboarding for progressing skiing farther than we ever could have dreamed.

I am all for both.

But I think that while watching "thats it thats all" I noticed some lack on skiers behalf.. triple corks... and those gnarly tree tap things they do.

I would say that "snowboarders/skiers have more fun" is a very unmeasurable and fairly pointless point. Mainly because how much fun you have comes straight down to the individual. Everything depends on who you are riding with and how you are as a person. Where I ride skiers and snowboarders are more together than in the US.

I have fun whether I am skiing or snowboarding, I personally happen to have more fun skiing.

True we are doing pretty damn good, but one thing I think would be sweet would be more fun competitions. Like snowboarders have so many fun competitions like Volcom's PB&Rail Jam that a couple of my buddies have been doing for the past couple years and they say it's the most fun competition they do all year. It would really be nice to have some more of those.

most def, and i think that it would b better if our sport remained kind of indy, snowboarding is so mainstreamed i dont see hot you can express yourself as an individual

Sure, that could be the case, but I don't think that it's taking away the limelight from say racing or big mountain backcountry stuff and touring (which I know you do a lot of). Big mountain (both skiing and snowboarding) and freeriding usually happens in places that the typical ignorant rider won't see or feel the urge to go. So there won't be much mainstream exposure at all.
I think the reason park skiing has got so much focus is that everyone, all the gapers and snowboarders, can see our progression all the time. They won't be able to see all the sick BC progression like the nimbus crew does, because they aren't there. In the parks it becomes obvious that skiers can throw down harder and harder every season. That way we get exposure.
And being ashamed of park skiing? I would think that's pretty ignorant. I don't like racing, I don't race, but I'm not ashamed to be riding the same planks as them. But that's another discussion I'm sure.

tailpress and nosepress are a lot harder on skis, ollie and nollie are harder on skis, snowboarding is so similar it is no wonder they have more skateboard tricks.
