Prototype AMPLID Ski Boot

Take a look at the video. Looks like there is an adjustable spring on the back for varying levels of flex. It also looks like it uses the Dalbello/Full Tilt tounge design.

how can it use the dalbello/full tilt tongue when the full tilt tongue and the dalbello tongue are completely different?

Is that the same boot that an Amplid rep was offering to test a few months ago? What happened with all that?
Looks sick imo!

I know dude, i was just messin

Seriously though, it looks like a cross between the old Line Ski Boot and a Scarpa AT boot and a Full Tilt Boot

Hey Guys,

There's a thread in gear talk already about our new boot. I'll cut and paste my response to this thread as well...

Thanks for the curiosity about our ski boot. We're currently putting

the final touches on it and plan on announcing it's release for 0910.

You might see them around this winter as various pros/shops/patrollers

are assisting in the final stage of our R&D process. It's very

important that the boot is subjected to various types of terrian and

riders before it's release.

As far as specifics about the boot... The video w/ Mati Imbert clearly

shows one of the many features we're exctied to provided to the freeski

market. The rest will be releaved at ISPO this year!

and might i ask where you buy your "anti-ankle breaking" boots?

as for the forward lean question... the whole point of the thing in the back is that you can adjust your forward lean from standing straight up to leaning WAY too fucking far forward... you have options

I'm excited to see how this turns out, innovation seems to be pretty slow moving in ski boots compared to skis.

I know they sponsor you and all, but you don't have to get your panties in a knot every time someone says something slightly negative about amplid.

real post:

It is nice to see innovations in the boot world, Weather it works or not it is always cool when some one wants to try something new. I'm still going to give it a few seasons on the market though

There is actually quite alot that goes on interms of new ideas, they just usually don't bother telling the public as much as they do with skis for two reasons. One. it is usually very subtle and hard to tell from looking at the boot, and two it rarely works. The two best boots on the market right now are still the flexions/full tilt and the classic lange, everything else just trys to be as close as it can to one of those two.

I think the adjustment on the back is just easier forward adjustment, not a flex adjustment.. But it does look like it has some sort of suspension so i dont really know. Looks pretty sick, but what the hell happens if that thing snaps... and it looks like it'd need some WD40 every now and then..

oh my god, isn't it obvious? he opens the latch at the back, and while open, displays the RANGE of possible adjustment. you wouldn't ride the boot with that thing open, you would close it when the boot is at the desired angle. it won't flex that much when it's closed.

it wasnt obvious to me i guess! i dont speak french, maybe they were talking about that, i dont knowwww.
but i get it now thanks!

Haha don't worry I didn't get it either. I sorta thought that it locked where you wanted it but wasn't sure.

I had to watch that clip bout 20 times, very interested in finding out more about this boot. it is very simular to a krypton tongue, the second buckle is very simular also, to the ankle buckle on a krypton, but that isn't a coincidence there are only 3 ski boot buckle manufacturers. now the mechanism on the back definately is an adjustment for forward lean but could also possilby control flex. my two cents.

yeah when he opened the thing i wasnt thinking then when he was showing the range of motion i though it was just showing how super soft the boot was. it looked waaaaayyyy soft and i was all like whoa but then i figured it out. looks a lot like the dalbellos kinda. interesting.

Hate to be a buzzkill here, but these are NOT NEW boots. These are old Raichle Snowboarding hardboots that were then made into ski boots by Raichle, then turned into freestyle boots by LINE, with the LINE Transfer (blue boots, circa 2000). Amplid has just tweaked the buckles on this version, but they definitely aren't inventing a new boot.

Link to a pair of the old Raichle boots on ebay:

Sounds just like what Fulltilt did... Except Amplid appears to have modified the boot to be better (just guessing but obvious buckle upgrades) while Fulltilt just produces an old boot with a new name.

Whatever the case the boots look sick!

Should be interesting to see what Amplid did to it. Toe box is larger for one. It is the old Raichle shell mold.

to the guy above who said whats next for amplid outerwear and poles, they actually already make poles

I knew it wasn't a NEW boot! Those molds are so expensive, and it seems to be the norm for ski companies to rehash old ideas. However, those look fucking sick. A walking/hiking mode is always a nice touch, but boots I have had with it in the past just don't cut it, and it doesn't work that well. These look pretty prime though. Anybody know if Jibij is getting some pairs in?

So classic. Looks like Peter Bauer (one of the Amplid founders) is holding onto his snowboard carving days!

It is a sick looking boot though. I like what they've done to dress it up.

its not a tounge design, its just the placement of one of the buckles, it locks the heel into the heelcup alot better. which is good on a boot like that with the capability to have a real soft flex.

id like to see them in person

I thought those boots looked familiar. I'm curious what changes they made besides the liner. The boots look sick and its nice to see amplid recognizing a need for more park specific boots

Just got mine and they're really light. Lighter than...

Heel thingamajig is the bomb, and the thermobake liners are super plush. Not from the old snowboard boot mold, I already caught hell for asking that.

Alex, I've got your back

It may not be from the same mold, but its definitly replicating the flexon pattern. Dalbello and Full Tilt have both copied the idea (maybe after the patent ran out) and made a very similiar flex pattern. If you look at any of the new Kryptons, you can see the buckle crossing over the heel/ankle. And the way the boot tightens is very very similar. Its not a clamp its an overlapping tightening. Pretty logical if you think about it. Too bad Dalbello makes skinny ass shells..

theres alot of speculation going on in this thread. as someone who has ridden the original raichle/line version of this boot, kryptons, and full tilts/flexons, id like to clarify the differences.

the Kryptons and full tilts use the same design. the Krypton is the newer incarnation, and uses traditional buckles instead of the cable buckles found on the full tilts. This technology was all pioneered by raichle.

the Line Transfer was a different colored version of a previous Raichle boot. It does indeer use the same kind of 3 piece shell/tongue design of the first two boots, but insead of having the standard fixed-lip rear stop, they have an adjustable bracket on the back. this allows you to do a number of things. for one, it allows you to set the position of the forward lean on the fly. everything from fully unlocked (beyond upright "walk" mode) to full on race lean can be set. additionally, you can lock the upper cuff in place in the boots at any one of these stops, like instantly being able to switch from plugged boots to full flexing ones.

The amplid boot is a reincarnation of the line/raichle boot. Its obviously been reworked to improve the quality, as the first versions were sold as fairly low end boots with horrible buckles, crappy liners, and rigid footboards.

im pumped for it. it skied well back then, and with the improvements, im definitely going to be looking at picking some up.

cant wait till these come into production although im gettin new bootsd this season im so gettin these when they come out!!!!
