Protests in Hong Kong

Massive anti-Beijing protests underway. 2017 candidates for election all chosen by Beijing government (as the agreements have always called for) and Hong Kong citizens are protesting in massive numbers. Students seem to be leading this, and police have already used pepper spray and tear gas.

I'm wondering if the Beijing government will take this as an opportunity to repress the (fairly) free people of Hong Kong in a stunt that garners popularity in the same fashion as what happened in Tiananmen Square.

Thoughts NS?

I feel like china is much more unstable than the west is lead to believe.

Why is that? It's ruled by one man essentially (Xi) who seems to be very in touch with what is needed to make his country thrive in the modern condition.

A nation that large, under an oppressive government that attempts to limit freedom while it's citizens know about western freedoms; is bound to fall eventually.

What exactly will china do if outside countries try and intervene? (highly doubt it unless they start killing protestors)

Really don't think that could ever happen. But don't rule out the possibility of the police killing someone. This is a big test of the current Chinese government's policy.

I was in Beijing for a month last summer. Although I have no idea if this is true political wise, I feel it is true in other aspects. Its fucking insane there.

I've been feeling like that lately too. Granted there is a ton of big and little shits being dropped all over the place right now but in the hind sight of history there has been a constant supply of shit just flowing and oozing out of cracks, at some points more so than others but regardless. It's almost like we are more aware now, and our generation is a little less ignorant. I could be completely wrong. Maybe the world is just becoming a case of mo people mo problems? Nonetheless, indeed these are crazy times.
