Protestant vs. catholic

First off, I don't give a shit if you're for or against god, religion, spirituality, etc. I just want to know what makes (in your words) Protestantism different than Catholicism, because after lots of research, I can only find a few differences.

i think protestant is considered any christian branch of the church other than catholism, and being catholic is well... just being catholic

i dont understand catholics and especially confession. don't get me wrong there's nothing i like more than lying to a preacher man...

kk, looks.

im protestant and go to catholic school.

what went down was martin luther was a G and nailed 99 protests to the door of a church in bavaria (germany dumbfuks)that he wanted changed. the church told him to stop and he didnt so they excommunicated him.

peolpe began to follow martin and were saying, "jea dis nigga be legit!" and tho martin never set out to start a new church, it happened. they took out all practices of the catholic church that the bible didnt describe as needed to do, they removed all unholy things like selling condolences, or tickets to heaven, as well.

the churches also were split by john calvin in scotland (were my fam be from) and they became the presbyterians (wat i is) and we have a simplified church in all simplkicity that believes in worshiping god not mary at all and that u dont need cofession, u can talk or pray directly to god for forgiveness.

there.

and be careful, ceiling cat is watching u masturbate.

catholics believe in transubstantiation and protestants believe in consubstansiation sp?. basically catholics say the host becomes jesus and protestants say it represents him

nigga, i just typed a long ass time to tell you what happened, plus i worded it in NS language so you could fully grasp it... are you telling me there arent enough "jeas" in ther?

look up martin luther. protestant is a religion for the common people, where everyone is seen as equal. it came about when the catholic church took advantage of people and was very hipocritical, and the protestant church was born as a fair and equal church. i find my protestant church to be much less serious than i've heard catholic churches to be. there is no confession or anything like that.

beautiful. That's what I was looking for. I'm Catholic right now but really get aggravated about the elitism and strictness of it.

aha we'll see what happens. I'll probably hit the Protestant church nearby next week to check it out, then head back to my Catholic church and get stoned to death. Then I won't have to worry about the converting thing.

confession communion and a few other things. One common misconception is that catholics praise the saints. this isnt exactly true we revere the saints as great and special people. we pray to the saints as an intermediary between ourselves and god much as confession goes through the priest to god. Also ordained ministers in the catholic church (ie priests, nuns) take an oath of celebacy. The catholic church is typically much more conservative than other denominations. however you will find a lot of differences in attitude and small procedural differences just going from one parish to another just like people in different parts of the country have differences.

basically Catholics murdered people cause they didn't want to be Catholic and were corrupt and stole money from the poor, etc. etc. If George bush lived int he Middle Ages he would be a Catholic.

you have a selective mind. maybe you forgot about the radical islamists that have made it their mission to be kill all people that don't follow their values. they're still living in the middle ages.

No. That is completly wrong. prodestants and catholics hate each other except for the fact that they came together against other religions. catholics are very into what is considered the "sacred". their worship revolves around tradition and the sacred, while prodestants are a more comtemporary stem, believing in a personal relationship w/ jesus. while the catholics believe in a community w/ the church being the mediator in jesus-moral relations.

whooo now we're talking theology.

But moving away from theology and history of the Church, I'd say the biggest differences today between the two groups lie on the topic of modernity. Vatican II was a step, but Roman Catholics still reject modernity, while Protestants tend to adapt to societal and cultural changes

(ie. evolution, homosexuality) ranging from very liberal to fairly conservative between denominations.

has a catholic we also believe that mary was ever virgin and we also follow the pope as the vicar of christ on earth who is the succser of peter

The differences in theology is the part I don't know about, which is why I made this thread. I know the basic history of Catholicism and the splitting of the church, etc.

except that martin luther created lutherins....

henery the 8th of england and shit.. wanted a divorece but the pope at the time would not allow it ... so he created the church of england(protosents) and thats were it comes from.. and then the irish get all fuckin in there shit..

all i really know is that protestnst dont have communion every sunday.. and the preists can get married... and really out of all the cristians branchs.. its the most still like romen catholism.. but wikpidia

ya, actually, his followers named the church after him.

martin LUTHER

LUTHERan church.

jea. kk, lolz!!!

all i know is that catholic priests try to emulate God by not marrying and being chaste but their sexual urges usually get the better of them and they start raping little boys. not cool

haha it was a joke dude, i go to a catholic college where their theology is fucking hammered into you, it sucks cause im not catholic
