Protein Powder

Hey NS, i want to start to buy some protein powder to help get leaner and bigger muscle after workouts. I was just wondering if any of you have any companies that you would recommend or brands to stay away from? thanks!

i go to costco and get gigantic bags of muscle milk powder, seems to work, it tastes like a chocolate milkshake in just water, so its worth it alone for that fact.

protien powder is silly. eat a high protein diet after working out (within a half hour), that includes a variety of protien sources (eggs, meat, dairy), and you dont need that garbage. What can possibly be in those shakes that gives you the advantage at 40 dollars a tub? Buy a 12 pk of eggs, some chix breast, a gallon of choc milk and youll be all set.

all the bros at my school crush protein powder in their blender bottles. i prefer a good meal and some chocolate milk after a workout, no need for that stuff. but that's just my opinion, some people swear by it

yea, man I always take a lil camp stove to the gym with me. I love fryin up some eggs and bacon, so relaxing to do after working out. And usually if I had pushed myself, nothing feels better than eating a nice full meal immediately afterwards.

Dont listen to people who just say eat high protein diets. If you really want to gain mass and not just muscle, protein mixes are the way to go. I would recomend Muscle Milk and the GNC Amplified Mass. But be careful, you have to go HAM in the weight room because if you dont lift hard enough it will just turn to fat.

My dad, mom, and sister all drink that stuff after workouts. I don't, mostly because it takes like piss and gasoline blended together with bits of turd.

to tell you the truth, i appreciate the advice, but really after ive been working out and im really tired. i dont really feel up to making all that stuff. id rather just mix some water and powder together to do the same thing...

They work for me. Keep in mind this is IN ADDITION to a good high calorie high protein balanced diet. not meal replecement unless your a middle aged woman.

yea, man thats totally what i said, right? My point is simply that the majority of the ingredients in those protien mixes are amino acid chains that are either synthetically made to resemble natural protiens, or protiens that are extracted from things like milk and eggs. Why blow money on powder that is essentially powdered milk and sugar when you can just buy normal milk, eggs, chix ect? You dont need to "bring a camp stove", just plan ahead. Throw a couple chix breasts on the foreman, and fridge em, hard boil some eggs, and have some quality milk in your fridge. Its simple, cost effective, and natural

i drink alot of milk a day, choc milk after workouts and chicken breasts probs like 2 times a week. but i just want to try to get more.

Whoops. Gnc and told the guy I want to gain weight and he said to try this stuff. Went through a bottle and gained almost 15 lbs in a month of muscle. This really worked for me and I'm about to go buy another tub, really expensive though. But it worked

ya that's the only reason I drink it..

I drink muscle milk the diet kind? I don't know, but I lost 56 pounds drinking that after my AM workouts with eating healthy too for my other meals. But I heard don't drink it if you want to get huge? Idk..

muscle milk, 100% whey protein powder.
like 28 grams of protein per 140 calories. cheap, and mixes well with anything.

i took cellmass and it has really worked out for me. going to the gym 5 days a week, lifting relatively hard, i went from 167 (i lost weight my first semester) to 187 after the whole tub.

Ok so A) don't get muscle milk. it's heavy metal count is much higher than other brands and that just fucks with your body

B) if your not serious about gaining weight don't bother with the shakes. Because taking one serving there is going to do nothing for you.

If you are serious your generally going to need to be consuming your body weight in grams of protein.

I was 149 at 5'11 and I started with taking "Serious Mass" by optimum nutrition, has something like 12 hundo calories per serving with water and 16 with milk. It's great if you can force yourself to drink at least 1.5 to 2 servings a day. but it is allott to consume. other good news is is fairly cheap but if your consuming a couple servings or more a day it can go quick.

With that and a hard hour and a half work out 5 days a week i made it to 157ish pretty quick. with 50g of protein per serving it also knocks a big chunk of that 160 or so you need each day(or whatever your weight may be)

Currently I take BSN true mass. It was cheaper than it is now but its got 48g protein per serving but only 630 calories. the nice thing is the serving size is about half the size of serious mass so i can do about 3 servings a day, one mid day, one post workout, and one before bed. I'm currently up to 168lb. in a few months with some slow weeks where i missed workouts and didnt eat right

but again none of this will really help if you don't dedicate yourself to your workouts and eating right as well. A combination of a high protein healthy high calorie diet with the shakes will put muscle on you real quick.

it's really about where your starting at and what you want for results and how fast. if your a skinny hard gainer like i was than the extra calories could help if you can force yourself to drink it. if your not a hard gainer something with less calories will provide a cleaner bulk with less fat.

www.bodybuilding.com

they have super fast shipping great deals and if you buy in bulk,(a couple tubs at a time) and spend over certain amounts theyll throw in free gifts like, t shirts, shaker bottles, all sorts of stuff. good luck if you have any question I can try to answer them for you

first off, if you are looking to actually strap on a few pounds, even as little as 10 - you will be lucky if even 2lbs of that is even muscle and it doesnt happen overnight, nor in a month.

taking a fuckload of whey everyday is not going to do shit to your body, it will more thna likely just poop it out. if you are using the 1.5g/1lb body weight ratio for protein intake per day, dont do it all for shakes, try to reach that with actual food. healthy food. i'm talking put your money to large amounts of chicken and eat 20-30oz of that a day.

lastly, do not get costco brand for the love of God. muscle milk, not a fan, is not recommended over Elite's Dymatize whey which I get the 10lb box for under $65. Who cares if you get your muscle milk from Costco for $20 for a 4lb bag - you are talking about your body here, get something of quality and something youll notice healthy gains from. Gains? No, Whey is not going to make you HUGE, you take it first thing in the AM to start the anabolic stage and immediately, im talking have that bottle ready after your workout right there, post workout.

check bb.com like ^ said, their shipping is incredible and ON (although its like buying Nike vs. Sketchers) has such good tasting powders that a lotttt of people swear by.

good luck

this. I've shit out a majority of the protein i've taken. Take a pre-workout supplememt (Jack3d if you're physically able to handle it) and a mass gainer or creatine monohydrate supplement.

I try, but the fact of the matter is I don't have an amazing diet, so hell yeah I am going to take protein. I have always had a shitty sensitive stomach, so I can't use a lot of them. I use this:
optimum-100-whey-gold.jpg
without any stomach problems. It mixes really well, and the Double Rich Chocolate tastes really good with just water. If you buy a 10lbs bag, it lasts a long time and ends up being pretty cheap per serving.

Optimum Nutritrien makes good products. The regular whey protein (like he said) lasts a while and is pretty cheap. Understand if your skinny and have had trouble your whole life gaining weight your probably gonna need some extra calories.

i have never taken protein powder and i have gained five pounds recently of muscle mass.

although i REALLY want too try it out too help things out, i mean if there's a way too make it better, why not?

ive been trying do have the healthy diet and working out atleast 3 hard workouts a week, and its not really doing much so why not double it? thanks everybody!

if you meen double your workouts, then dont do that. your muscle needs too rebuild between workouts for them too grow.

My friends father is the owner of Muscle Milk and I get free stuff from him weekly, but I rarely use it because one, I'm too lazy to always drink it after workouts, and two, it tastes really bad if you actually put one serving of it in your smoothie/shake.

it's just whey protein, so brands don't really matter. just buy the cheapest one you can find. supplements are when you need to start looking at brands

I have Nutribiotic Organic Rice Protein powder. I like the plain because it can go in anything and I can bake with it if I want.

protein powders are a very cheap, and easy to prepare source of protein. It should be used to SUPPLEMENT your already pretein rich diet, and should not take the place of a real food except when it is extremely inconvinient to prepare a full meal.

However, i garauntee that at your age and fitness level that your diet is the main thing holding you back. post what you daily diet is, along with your height and weight, and we can go from there.

IMO musclemilk is the most overrated thing on the market.

My personal favorites, are ON 100% whey, and Dymatize Whey. Get them at either bodybuilding.com, or musclesurf.com, or dpsnutrition.net

The best one i've used. about a pound a week since i started with it. don't be afraid of a little bit of creatine, but don't exceed ten grams of it daily

I used GNC's whey isolate (banana berry flavour) it tasted amazing. i now use PVL's Iso-gold which is "vanilla" but doesnt taste too bad
mix protein with MILK. it tastes better than with water

1 shake in the morning, 1 right after your workouts, lift heavy do 5x5 lifts, ull put on size, eat 6000 calories a day, and ur set.....easier said than done but thats how u do it

Go to Walmart. Look for the giant ass words WHEY PROTEIN. Buy it and consume immediately after a hard workout. Your muscles will recover much faster. You can use it as a great meal replacement as well.

You don't want to get whey protein if you already eat a lot of dairy. There's vegetable protein, soy, rice, hemp etc. I like rice protein.
