Protein powder

I just bought me some protein powder and i have a couple questions.

1- Is it bad if i am taking protein powder if i am not working out? like i have football 5 days a week so i dont get much time to lift wieghts but its not like im not exersizing. I will be working out alot more after football is over ( so in 2 month's)

2- the kind i got is pure why isolate, i got the isolate because i know it has advantages like it boots energy and your immune system but i was wondering if it is going to gain fat, like im interested in maintaing/ cutting my body fat percentage not make it go up. So did i choose the right kind of powder.

3 Lastly, i was wondering when i should take the powder, My freind said have a glass every morning and before you go to bed. But my other freind said just take it post work out.

whey isolate doesnt make you fat, sure it will go to your stomach and you could lose the shape/tone of your body but you have football almost everyday of the week and that is strenuous work i suppose. you should take a glass in the morning with16oz of milk and post workot, taking it before bed is alright, but that is usually saved for weight gaining shakes. the advantage of taking it post workout is weighted heavier than at night, hence your muscles have been used at practice and are lacking the amino acids, protein, and other essentials found in whey to help thme recover - so you want to take it as soon as you are done; same with me, i took a shake with WATER after workout daily as well.

what company makes your isolate? you should consider getting ON 100% whey gold std. off bodybuilding.com - i have a 10% discount coupon code for you too once you are doe with that (from my last 200$ order =p) good luck, let me knwo if you have any more questions. stay healthy.

the options are limitless as to when to take it. seems for minimal wastage post workout is the best bet. you can do it many ways though, in the morning, pre-workout, post workout, before bed, its really all fine. some pro athletes wake up in the middle of the night to get another shot.

second, protein is something that naturally occurs, so you cant hurt yourself at all with it, unless you are taking a mega dose, which is reallly hard to do. like half the bucket in a day.

so ya, go for it. start gainin tiger!

first off, don't listen to your friend cause he's kinda retarded...

take it in the morning yes, and after any physical workout but NOT before bed, that will do nothing but change it to fat.

Pure whey isolate is high protein, low carb and low fat so you did get the right stuff if your looking for a cut.

you should workout while you are taking it because then it will just sort of go to waste, you could just eat well and you'll get enough protein to cover you for the football.

if your gonna start working out in 2 months you should be done that bin by then, so i'd say save it til when your actually just working out and just eat well with football..

protein whey isolate isnt really a heavy supplement, its kind of the base that anyone in the gym takes so you have nothing to worry about, it will do nothing harmful to your body. when your working out in 2 months think about taking creatine aswell if you want a good cut.

for further questions i can give you an invite to the bodybuilding cult.

yea unless you work out right before bed then dont take it before bed because whey protein isnt like casein, its the fastest digesting protein there is so it wont last through the night, however a glass of milk is good before bed to prevent catabolism over night because it is about 80% casein which takes about 6-8 hours to digest fully.

I just started taking some also, i work out twice a week so I take it twice a week after each workout.

I play rugby 3 times a week and hockey at least twice. Should I be taking it after those activities?

Thanks for the input.

By post workout does it have to bedirectly after like right away or could i wait until i get home to take it. Or would that be to late.

steven[5]- The brand is "kaizen" its from costco( i know not the best place for supplements) But it also 100% whey isolate. I got this for $35(4.4lbs) so im not to worried about it going to waste.

oh and i forgot to say, i am 14( turning 15 in 2 weeks) 5'3" 123lbs

^ All regular protein isolate is basically the same shit, brand doesnt really matter too much. Try and take it within 15 minutes after you have stopped working out, this is when your body is craving nutrients the most and when your muscles will have the best absorption.

take it if possible right after your workout like bring it in a water bottle or something it can wait till u get home tho to..best time is within 20 minutes of working out. also if ur only turning 14 ur pretty young if u dont use protein or watever for a year or two might help to cause ull mature more and ur growth wont be stunted but hey waterver floats ur boat

hey man, Can I ask you what exactly are your goals? I might be able to give you a more direct answer then, but for now,

1) no, I don't think you need to take it only the days you work out. if you have a few days off in between, take it as well. Basically man, the key terms are consistency, and persistency with your workout, and your diet. with protein, it is meant to be a supplement to your diet, so with the supplement and your diet in mind, try to intake 1.5 grams per pound of body weight.

2) I have worked as a personal trainer and I'll tell you people approach me a lot with this question, the "I want to gain a lot of muscle mass but at the same shed a ton of fat. I'm sorry to tell you but you are going to find it basically impossible to have it both ways at once.. If you want to put on a lot of muscle mass, you are going to train/eat in a mass building phase for a period of time, this often means putting on a little fat in the process, afterwards you can switch things up and direct your training and diet into a cutting phase to get rid of the excess fat you put on during your mass building phase.

3) I would recommend taking whey in the morning, it is important to have a great breakfast and immediately post work out is very important as well, yes you can drive home and take it with a meal that's fine. Immediately before bed, I would recommend taking a casein protein as it is slower to digest, so maybe if you don't want to go buy another protein mix, just drinking several glasses of milk at night can go a long way. Also remember to keep hydrated. drink a LOT of water and spread your meals out wisely, (pick your food wisely)

again, I could give you a lot more specific advice but I don't know exactly what your goals are, I'm just kind of assuming. any way hope this helps you out.

that is great, it's a great time for you to start lifting, I started lifting when I was your age. remember what I said, be consistent and persistent with your training and diet, be smart, and you will see by the time you are 16, 17, 18 you will be really amazed with your progress

thanks for all the great advice. It seems you know what your talking about.

As for my goals, im not looking to really build muscle for looks. I want to work out to help me with athletics. I play competitive Lacrosse, High school varsity Rugby and Highschool varsity football. So like i said im planning to do workouts that are sport related, along with lifting i will also be running and sprints and stuff. Sorry i dont have tme to add more detail but thats basically what im looking to do, i have to head of to school now.

Thats a complete myth. Why would your body be stunted from having more protein? your body needs protein to grow. you don't know what your talking about at all. It's just like having a steak everyday, eh genius you think that would stunt your growth? no. no it would not is the correct answer. LIFTING WEIGHTS can stunt your growth a little, but that hasnt really been scientifically proven, but it can cause the discs in your spine to squish together a little, this is if you were fuckin hardcore from the age of like 13-16 going like everyday maybe. other than that it wont stunt your growth.

but anyway its just protein powder, it will not do anything harmful to your body. It is good for you, and if you have excess protein you just shit it out.

Well coming from the same situation in playing football have one right before school and right after you lift or before your game

i love this protein powder!

lmao i was always under the impression it tasted bad but this morning when i had a glass of i was like " fuck thats good, i want some more" its like really expensive chocolate milk thats good for you lol.

right, i know this is a little off topic but...

you thinks you'll go to ofssa?

cause i see that your from ontario and my team should be there for sure, so.....

hahahaha you scared me for a second. I was like how the fuck does he know where my team is from.

uh and to answer your question. Not a chance in hell, we have a newish school so we havnt had a chance to build up much of a team yet but are team is no where good enough to go yet. Hopefully in up coming years. It's just the kids at are school dont want to commit to a psort that practice's 5 times a week even though you get so used to it after the first week you dont even notice. There's to many fags concentrating on soccer and community football and were having trouble having a good turn out for football. we do have 48 players but only 55 tried out. We have ALOT of great athletes at our school who just for some reason do not want to play which pisse's me off. A few people in my grade pussy out because its varsity and they make up all these other excuse's on why there not playing but the real reason is because theiy're scared. We finally have an awesome RB this year who played for team Ontario a couple times but unfortunatly he's a senior( along with the majority of our team) so he will not be here next year. That's the other problem, for some reason no only 6 kids in grade 11 tried out so next year we'll practically have no seniors on our team, only junior's and freshman.

now that i vented, lol. my school is

St Joseph Catholic high school

ottawa

whats your school?

theres alot to say on the topic, but...

if you have too much protein and are not working out/exercising in proper ratio to the amount your taking, you will gain fat. this because when you body has more protein than it needs it converts it and stores it as fat.
ive come to understand the best times to take it is 2 hours before working out so your body can digest the nutrients in it and convert it to energy for when your exercising and within 30 minutes after you workout so you can refuel/replenish the nutrients you just burnt up during exercise.
dont take it before you sleep. because your inactive when you sleep, your body will store it as fat

hope that helped a bit

thanks, now im kinda worried about taking it twice a day. Our football practice's are usually around 1 hour 45 min ( some times 2 hours sometimes an hour and a half) and we do have it 5 days a week. So do you think that is enough working out for the amount of protein? Each serving is 40g's so that would be 80g's of protein a day ontop of anything else i eat.

80g's is too much, you said your 126lbs, take less, the amount it says to take on the bin is for an average size full grown person so like 175lbs. you should be taking 1 g of protein for every pound of lean mass, your maybe 80 lbs lean mass so i'd say cut a bit off what your taking, you'll just shit it out and its a waste of protein, you have to remember that your getting tonnes of protein from the foods your eating,.

Let me reassure you, you have nothing to worry about. I've been a trainer in a gym and taken supplements for like 5 years now and as long as you live an active lifestyle nothing negative will occur. It's not like HGH, creatine or no2 where you actually have to know about what your taking and how to work out when your on it.

Sorry for jacking your thread but...

I am currently taking maximuscles promax extreme twice a day, once before working out and then again after. I am looking at switching to PdH lab whey protein, i was just wondering wether anyone on here uses that protein and has any other reccomendations of different brands to try, maximuscle is expensive.

St Joseph Catholic high school? theres a school real close to me called that... but you live in ottawa or something...

anyway

My teams 3-0

/Claim

but its kinda the same deal for me, we have a shitload of seniors and something like 13 returning seniors, so i get little to no field time. Its kinda sick cause we'll probably win at least GB's (georgan bay, regional shit or whatever they call the local thing), but also shitty cause im ridin the bench. Next year we'll have 4 seniors on defence, so we'll get tanked every game, but i might be a captain

i go to Innisdale Secondary School

Barrie (lil south oF toronto, near blue mountain)
