Protective Gear Recommendations

Been a minute since I've been here lol.

Looking for some recommendations on protective stuff for the upcoming season. I've decided I need a back protector and something to protect my hips. This shits getting rough on my body and I'm looking to up my safety game with some of the rails I'm looking at this year. What brands do ya'll like? I'm thinking Atomic or POC for the back protector, really have no idea on hip pads.

Also, what pads do y'all rock? Anyone use knees or elbows? A cup or another method of keeping your balls out of harms way? Any thing else?

I have a pair of the AlpineStars comp pro shorts, I tried in several different pairs from different companies and styles to find one that fit nicely and had the pads lined up well on my hips and pelvis. This pair is pretty lightweight but they've definitely saved my ass a few times.

Could look into snowboard brands, a lot of them have hip protectors specially for snow sports. I recently got some RED wrist guards for learning snowboarding this year, but if I ever do park laps with no poles I think I'll throw em on, I find I land on my wrists a lot so something is better than nothing

Saw a video of some streamer chick jump off a slightly elevated platform, land on her tailbone, and now she's gotta get a rod in her spine.

I'm now in the market for some tailbone protection.

Lmk what you decide on. I know I need something that protects my hips/tailbone/junk, hopefully can get an all in one solution to that.

Looks like I'm getting a POC back protector and a run-of-the-mill mouth guard for sure tho :) Thanks for all the responses so far!

Those round hard things you put on the top of your body. They make a knocking sound when you go knock knock knock on it. I can’t remember the name

POC VPD system back protector is great, plus you can buy a chest plate for it and use it for mountain biking, if you're into that as well. Honestly I don't think its made any difference for any skiing crashes I had since I got it, but FWIW though I did get good use out of it when I was trying to backflip my DH bike into the foam pit at Woodward and the bike landed on my back pedal-first, so I do trust it works well.

Sideline swap and eBay have great used back protectors. I’ve skied with a sly tech for the last 5 seasons and love it. They keep you very warm.

mountain biking knee pads are cool too. I have some dakine ones cause I found them cheap

Only this.

But following cause I beat the shit outta my self last season. Padded shorts would be a nice start. Back brace looks sick too

My bad, I dunno who she is, but you know who I'm talking about though right? Someone posted a .gif in this thread.

It's super unfortunate tho, I'm sure we've all taken a fall from a higher altitude with more velocity and walked away unscathed... all it takes is that one freak accident and your life is altered forever.

Crazy.

I was joking, kinda, shes a pornstar.

But yeah I get it, half the reason Im scared of sending some things is fear of rocking my head to hard and not being able to recover.

I got a used slytech back protector for $50, it’s a foam like material that goes into a vest that you wear over your base layer. Keeps me warm… warm enough that I avoid wearing it in the spring sometimes. haven’t had any serious falls in it but seems like it would make a big difference

I got the triple 8 hip pads and the side I keep falling on is wearing out though it's now on my 3rd season of skiing them. Has anyone used those pads I use to keep seeing on insta? The brand name has completely escaped me but I think they started up last year.

Rippl? I haven't used them but they look pretty similar to my AlpineStars pair. I worry a little bit about the gap between the butt pad part and the hip pads, it sort of looks like it's right at the spot where my hip bone hits the ground which was a fitment problem I had trying on a lot of padded shorts.

Updating this cause the thread got some more comments recently: POC makes awesome pads. I wore the back/chest protector to 26 street spots last year and it looks brand new. I got some elbows that I throw on for some gnarlier spots then they work well. I wear the hips/tailbone pads they make for mountain biking everyday I'm on snow, be it the streets or on hill, and they're awesome. They dont fully prevent injury from concrete, but wow do they help mitigate it. On hill slip-out bruises are nonexistent now and some of the harder street falls I'm sure would've been worse without. They definitely show signs of wear, but I think they have another healthy (60-90 day) season left in them before I think about replacing. 11/10 would absolutely recommend getting padded up
