Protecting Icons

Okay, so every couple of weeks I see that some person with 30 posts has my icon and it drives me completely insane. I like my icon because its unique and stands out from the rest of the crowd. Besides some other members who have ski gifs similar to mine as their icons.

But this has been happening ever since I started going on ns. Back then like 15 people had the flashy neon saga icon.

On this site, your icon is your identity pretty much. Everybody knows that ribbs is the boob icon guy. 1337 has the mudkips in his. El.gato has the cat with a helmet and so on..

The point is, I feel like we should be able to keep our icons without having to see somebody else with the same one a few weeks later.

So is there anything that the admins can do to prevent this from happening? Can we make it so a member can't rightclick and save a person's icon to use as their own? Or something along those lines?

I hope that made sense, I'm not great at describing things lol.

And idk if it's a big deal to anybody else but it's just one pet peeve I have about this site.

I feel like that has the biggest potential... but I'm no coder so maybe it's not that easy.

This has been an issue since as long as I can remember. Getting an icon made for you by someone was always a coveted treasure. I do have a lot of old icons saved to my desktop, many that GhostDragon made for DL members.

People used to just shame the shit out of people until they changed it to something else. And I have seen at least one person call someone out for having your icon.

I wish this was possible, even though at the end of the day it's not the biggest deal--I still think it would be a nice option.

El_Negro has been using my icon for the past couple weeks. I tell him i hate him everytime i see him post but thats it. If you cant handle it then youre a pussy.
 
There's atleast one douchenoggin out there with mine. I hate it when I see it. It always baffles the hell out of me because I never remember posting whatever it was he posted.
 
And it's not like I'm super butthurt about it. it's just nice to have an original icon yanno.
 
Aha I've seen a few people on here with my ski boot icons I used to have. I found it kind of weird and frustrating since I drew them, but whatever, not the end of the world. I've had some awesome MS paint ones since.
 
On Flickr there is a certain level of protection against downloading pictures so maybe that could be incorporated into NS somehow. Right now you can just right click on someone's icon to download it.
 
I made mine, though. I scaled down and compressed it myself. It's not like I saw someone else's and just took it.
 
I don't think I have anything to worry about. Without (or with, opinions vary) my username, my icon is fucking stupid.
