PRO's V. Amateur

I know some people may disagree with this, and I'm cool with that, but has anyone realized how lately, the shit being put out by amateurs is just as/ or even better than the shit thrown out by the pros? On this site alone, there are easily 3,000 skiers that can probably pull the same shit as the pros can. Any ideas what this will lead to?

ive noticed this too but..i see it as the pros can throw down everywhere in park, pipe, urban, big mountian, and there are only a select few amatures that can do it as well as they can all around

Being out there skiing every day, good or bad, just playing around with friends, with no contests or filming- that is the real spirit of skiing for me. that is why i started skiing, and if i lose those moments that is what will make me stop skiing.
 
there is basicly no such thing as an am in skiing... companies are so fast to throw money at kids.

Skateboarding and surfing is totaly different, if you get signed to a team as an am you have to work your ass off for years to make it as a pro, and you had better hope your shit is at the very least as good as pros or you can kiss your chance good bye.

I would say amateurs can throw down just as good. Tim Durstchi for example. Cab 12. Zero Spin off a 20 ft cliff. switch 9 bc. he does it all. but he will go big.

if the amateurs was so good, they would win the x games, the us open, the whistler,.......I already read this discursion in other sports and i always think the same: if they are so good why they don't live as the pros.

I think that there is people very good but the stars (tanner, pep, olsson,...) are other level.

 
AMs wont win the x games becasue its all for publicity. the winners gonna be someone with a big name.

the pros are more consistent and can do anything on cue anywhere and everywhere and they just land smoother ams can throw the same shit but not as big or not as style or not as stomped

ummm tj shiller and rainville and other guys like jp solberg dominated the us open and shit.....also i was at a rail comp and jf cusson was there and we murdered him on the rails....apparently it was too cold for him but ti was -5 out then

Its the style, the consistensy, the lifestyle, the attitude, the amplitude, and the expierience they bring to the table! There are amny good amatuers but their is a thin line they havent crossed the biggest is expieirince! Look at convential sports if a rookie has a record season he is still only a really good rookie not a veteran because he lacks consistnecy and expierince and has no adversity to overcome such as injuries or other things! Being a true pro comes with time!

bristol, i never really saw jf as a big rail guy. i can garuntee he would fuck up you and your entire crew at jumps though.

 
Also I bet you pros just dont give a fuck when it comes to just skiing little contests and everyday skiing, he probablywasnt trying at all.

pros have style and the abilty to do it all really, i mean you see them in flicks throwin like mabey 4 different tricks year after year(like cork 7's) so u think wow i can cork 7 but the truth they can do everything. what they do in movies isnt the end of what they do, that was kinda confusing.....plus the stylie factor. that is what seperates the man and the boys

It is necessary to think that JF is an old pro. he has got his moment of glory and for it follows being pro but if you want to compare yourself with pros you should compare with olsson, hall, fujas, dc, dummont, pollard....

its not evan about being pro or am now, its how much attention you can bring your self to portray a company, there are hundreds of kids now that throw down just as hard or harder than lots of the big names but the big names figured it all out couple years ago and have a name in the industry now, all these newbies have to work to make a name for themselfs. Not to say pros are not talanted but there are many out there that could rip them up any day of the weak.

I just wanna ski, is that to much to ask in life

Word, AMn, Some ams can work pros, some cant, its all about how u look at them, Take TJ Shiller, Josh Bibby, Local Vernon Rippers. Those guys can huck, and there not pro, the fucking ripped the Us open, and Josh took soul advantage of Whistler this year, ripping like everyday, but when u look at peps like Mick Nick, or Seth Morrison, They get so much more media and sponser coverage, the hole world notices them, well Josh & TJ are ripping at what they do best!! If they got some media coveage, They would Fucking Own the skiing world in a few years!!

well some of the skiers on this site probly dont wanna be pro and or they fold under pressure and or they dont go to the right places or something like that and as someone said at the begings of the thread is that the pros can do all their shit off every pretty much and only some am's can do that
