Prophet 90 vs. K2 Extreme

Thanks in advance for your help...

Currently have '08 Chronics, 177

60% trails (groomers, pow, occasional bumps)

40% park (more jumps than rails)

6' 195lbs.

Chronics are too soft for me and probably too small at 177. I want something stiffer, wider, and longer (I'm referring to the skis) but something that will still allow me to enjoy occasional jaunts in the park.

After some research, I'm interested in either the Prophet 90 or K2 Extreme. Am I on the right track? What size do you think?

sounds like the prophet 90 is right up your alley. they're pretty stiff and will support your large frame charging all around the mountain. also, they are quite at home in the park. they're the same ski as the blend from last year, they just have a layer of titanium so make them a little more supportive.

extremes will have a similar flex to your chronics and the same waist. the only benefit to getting them would be you can get them longer.

as for prophet 90s, id shy away. if u were doing less park than you are, theyd be solid. the metal in them scares me in the park. theyll work, but i would look into...

line blend. 100 underfoot this year, vertical sidewall, burly construction. slightly stiffer flex than your chronics, and they come in a 183. perfect 50-50 all mountain/park combination on a wider platform.

in the prophets? because of ur weight ur gonna want to go with the longest ski they make. itll feel so much more stable (im 200 lbs, so im used to skiing the longest skis too)

id go 186 if i were you, im 5'11 and about 200 and i wont dip below 180 anymore, my 181 addicts even feel a little small. so if i were you i would get the prophets, mount them about 6cm back from center, i believe recommended on that skis is about 9cm back, but at 6cm back it will kill all mountain but still be decent for park, if you want to go further forward you could maybe go 4-6cm but i dont think i would mount that ski any further forward.

Personally im a K2 kinda guy but if i HAD to choose between those two, id go for the prophets. the Extreme is more of a 60%park 30%groomers10%pow kinda ski in my opionion. If you like k2 though, i just picked up a new set of those kung Fujas and they are pretty nice, really stiff underfoot but plenty of flex in the tips and tails to keep'em poppin and butterin the whole hill.

They'll both be good. I skied both and prefered the 90 all round, felt more lively - it would make a sick park ski.
