lookin for some good progressive rap songs to add to my playlists. not talking about lil wayne or enimem or however you spell his name, im talking about slug and brother ali and grieves and actual artists

 
Well i came in here to say brother ali, so i see you got that covered. I would recommend r.a. the rugged man and mf doom. And deltron 3030 is always a classic
 
http://www.badhabitatmusic.com/top-10-progressive-hip-hop-artists/Yea after a while you realize that most rappers who are labeled 'progressive' or 'socially conscious' just talk about the same shit that everyone else does and theres a lot of 'mainstream' or 'popular' rappers who talk about 'progressive' or 'socially conscious' stuff. Good music is just good music, ignore the labels. If I were you I would go find a list of the top hip hop albums of all time and start listening to the albums and see what you like and don't like and go from there.

Also one thing I've learned from following hip hop for 5+ years is that for almost everyone the producer means so much more than the rapper. Find some producers you like and you will find good music. Your best bet is to go on youtube and find like top 100 dj premo beats or top 100 j dilla beats and thats the easiest way to find good singles. Once again google like top 50 hip hop producers and go from there.

i like your approach! you seem to have come a long way with regards to the whole labeling thing and that's encouraging to see. props dude. kids need to stop and savor the good stuff. i think this song sums up their current problem quite nicely and the better way to approach it:
