Progression to 540

I'm sure it's been covered but search is down so I'll pop the question here.

Basically - I'm just curious about how those of who you hit 540's worked your way up to that stage - and if you think a 5 with a switch take-off or a switch landing is easier to hit.

I'm comfortable with regular 3's, and 180's with a switch landing - and plan to add 180s with a switch take-off once the parks are open again - but I'm not sure what to shoot for after that. Would it be better to go for full switch 3's first or just go for the easiest 5?

I am a washed-up old schooler with banged-up knees - so any advice that will help me minimize the damage and actually pull a 5 before I hit the midlife crisis and swap my skis for golf clubs and a camaro will be much appreciated.

When i learned fives i had no idea what i was doing, so hoply this helps, because i learned that you just throw 3 kinda faster than you want and as u get to 360, just spread out a little and bring it around to switch, its pretty simple when you do it, then get more comforable with it and it will get better.

And as for switch take off, i found i could barly do a switch 3 the first year i tryed, its alot different and feels weird at first, but just throw down, and good luck.

a 540 islike a slightly overspined 3 to hip twist and landing fakie. thinking of going a bit bigger while settingjust a bit more rotation rotation then on a 360 and turingyour hips as you spot the landing should get you to a nice 540.

The thing to remember about 5's is to just relax and throw a faster than normal 360. you'll come around too fast and then you just have to do another quick 180, land and ride away. also i think cab 5's are easier when you take off switch your head has already done the first 180 so its basically just like throwing a regular 360.

yeah the first thing i did was make sure i was totally comfortable w/ 3s, like grabbing and just doing them where ever. and the fakie lanidng is deff key too so make sure you have the 180 DOWn off the jump you wanna 5 off. make sure its not too big of a jump but you need room to get it around. then you just gotta remember to pretty much do a three but faster and make sure you spot switch landing. i dunno, its a harder trick to explain

when i do a five i make sure i grab and hold so then i do a full 3 and then i start rotating towards a 5 spot my landing and if im not rotating fast enough i can throw my grab. kinda weird but it works for me.

fakie is just getting the timing right, work on jumping and setting the roattion at teh right time on fakie 3 and you should get fakie 5 down very soon

just look a little bit more.......thats all. its really not hard at all just get a lil more wound up or throw a grab thatll pull you around....if ya can

can yolu do a revert 180? if you can, think of it like a 360 to revert 180. sort of twist your waist at the last minute \

Many thanks for the input. As I am a relic from the daffy-era, I'm not sure what a revert 180 is. Is that a 180 where you wait until after the take-off to initiate your rotation? If so - sounds like it could work as a way to build up to a 5.

there really isnt much of a difference. a lot of the time when i 3 a big jump for the first time, ill 5 it by accident haha. so as long as you keep your shoulders with the spin, it should come around.

it might help when youre first learning them to open up after 3 and almost jerk it around. it doesnt look that good, but itll help you learn em at first. then youll be able to figure out how to do it like you want to. good luck man!

I remember the first 5 i ever did...just went off the jump and tryed to spin faster and some how landed it. thats probly how it'll be. once u get better tho u can take em way bigger and learn to spot at 360 and at that point let go of the grab and pivot your hips to come in for the switch landing. I found cab 5s much harder to learn. taking off switch is all about timing. I took me awhile to learn to set the pop and rotation correctly. just do it over and over and you'll get it. worked for me.

If you want to do a switch 3, then get comfortable with switch 180's first. Once you have them down, getting to 360 won't be a problem. The important thing is envisioning it in your head. For the 5, I think if you have your 3's down pretty well, then you'll be able to do it pretty much on your first or second try. The key is going through everything in your head and envisioning yourself actually doing it. It helps me to envision what i will actually be seeing while i'm spinning.

i did my first 5 while going for 7...without twintips, maybe you should not try that because i died about 2 seconds after landing

you either get a bigger jump and spin the same speed as a 3 just farther or spin faster be real comfortable with landing switch. i actually prefer landing switch than regular i find it more comfortable so i almost never do a 3 anymore. you can try learning them in powder but landing will be hard but you can get a good idea of the rotation and speed and crap

Just set your rotation a bit harder than a three when. You see yourself come around to 360 just continue the spin. Once you try a couple you'll know how hard you have to set your rotation. They're really not hard, just give it a try, you'll have it no time.
