Pro Skiers on Salary?

It might seem like the "good life" being a pro skier... but most pro skiers arent even on salary yet. and when the economy drops the first thing companies probably do is drop sponsorship money. It seems like they are livin it up but if your not talking about free clothes gear and travels they are far from the "good life"

but they still are skiing exotic places having the greatest time of their life. so what if you don't get paid much. people need to realize life isn't about money. thats a great way to want to kill yourself. find something you like and pursue it. don't worry about having a bigger house or better car. just enjoy life.

oh and get drunk. thats always fun. and decently cheap.

i agree too i was just thinking about how people are mistaken when they think of how pro skiers have it made

thats why most of them go to school in the offseason, to prepare themselves for life after being a pro skier.

unless of course you are tanner seth or sage type status, they are set for life

its slowly starting to change. skiing is getting HUGE and big pros are starting to stack the skrilla

ya your right, no one would want to be able to travel the world skiing in competiions being an icon and a hero to little kids and getting to ride and rep all next years shit... that sucks dick.

i totally agree with this, ive thought of this before, i mean, one big injury and you could be done, and the way the sport is progressing you seriously have to push your limits every day, i dont know, i think that could get nerveracking sometimes, like knowing that you have to put your career/life on the line allll the time, just to keep doing what you love. but at the same time, you are skiing pro, and getting paid to ski, that is absolutely amazing!

My friend makes enough to just cover her living expenses like phone and rent but not enough to save anything really. She does travel about 6 months of the year to all the different places. Last year was especially hard she said. The economy was down and she lost 2 of her sponsors. I'm pretty sure she got those replaced after doing so well in a few of the comps, plus she got around 15,000 i believe in winnings. But shes a female and not one of the top ones but good enough that she places often.

The Fisherman!

The American businessman was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.

The Mexican replied only a little while. The American then asked why didn't he stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family's immediate needs. The American then asked, "But what do you do with the rest of your time?" The Mexican fisherman said, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos, I have a full and busy life, senior."

The American scoffed, "I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds, buy a bigger boat with the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats. Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the processor, eventually opening your own cannery. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually NYC where you will run your expanding enterprise."

The Mexican fisherman asked, "But senior, how long will this all take?"

To which the American replied, "15-20 years."

"But what then, senior?"

The American laughed and said that's the best part. "When the time is right you would announce an IPO and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions."

"Millions, senior? Then what?"

The American said, "Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos."

what im sayin is that there are kids sitting in their million dollar houses wishing and dreaming that they were tom wallisch because he gets all the attention and all the free stuff... but they dont look at the fact that he isnt making money. the more educated bunch of ns knows that skiers are flat broke. but i am talking about the kids think that tom wallisch is the luckiest guy in the world and dont look at the money portion of it.

Move to a small backwoods town with a sleepy but awesome local hill. Ski late, wash dishes a little, play with your dog, spend nights with that lady/dude you hollered at because she/he was ripping the liftline and you saw her/him in the bar later, stroll through the village saying hi to your friends at various bonfires/watering holes.
