Maybe you're right, but I'd imagine that if an athlete is renegotiating his contract with a sponsor say a year or so before the Olympics and has good chances of making the team, he'd be in a position to get a much better contract than an average skier, and on top of that I imagine the bonuses for making the Olympics and/or getting a medal would be considerably higher than an X games medal.
So I think his general point is that Olympic skiers get more money from sponsors, which would make sense because the audience of the Olympics is much larger than X games, so I could see brands spending more $$$ on them.
Would seem logical to me, but I don't know.
