Pro Salary Question

I'm only looking for legit answers hear, Im doing a project in discrete math (like financial math) and need to know how much pro skiers make. for example, jon olsson or some other big name.
 
European skiers are getting paid more than our pros. Skiing is much more marketable to Eurokids. I.E. Jon is getting paid atleast mid to high 6 figures for all his deals b/c he is one of the most recognizable faces in Sweeden. I heard, once upon a time that Eric Pollard was getting something like $85,000 a year from Helly Hansen alone -- so when you add LINE and anon and dakine to that he does really well -- just not as well as the others in Europe.

I would say that Jon and Candide are the two highest paid in freeskiing. It's not irony that they happen to have their own invatationals
 
well i have no idea and this is gunna sound probaly totally wrong and it probaly is but im guessing tanner hall makes like 700,000 a year or somewhere around that? thats deff wrong but w.e.
 
yeah jon gets alot, but he is a hard worker. i was talking to him and he sas he is also a buisness man when he is not skiing soooo
 
I am sure you can do a search and find a ton about this, but many answers are just throwing crap out there. The answer is they get paid in many different ways:

Based on big name athletes (Tanner, Jon, TJ, Corey, Dumont)

Salary:

Outerwear: $40k - $80k year

Goggles: Around $10k year

Skis: Not sure hard numbers on this one but probably $40k and up I think?

Tanner, TJ, Simon probably with all sponsors are pulling SALARY of between $150k and $250k maybe more, depending on contracts with Target, Grenade, Giro, Red, Paul Mitchel, Red Bull type companies?

Those are the big sponsors as they are most prominent with logos...gloves/boots and other stuff are all I think under $10k a year. This obviously depends on the company and rider we are talking about.

Comps:

Winnings obviously, but also many companys will match the winnings to a percentage.

Photo incentive:

Clearly see the logo in a Mag then get paid on that, huge variances of what $$ they get.

 
most of those figures seem right u gotta consider the sponsors that they have that aren't s obvious...plus like they said about Jon, im sure alot of them, at least as they start to get older, will tie up money in other business endeavors.
 
but what about other pros that dont do as many comps and arent too well known? someone like craig coker or austin ramaley
 
i don't think either one of those two make very much money. i'm fairly certain that there are only a handful of people who make a comfortable living out of skiing.
 
ya I remeber and article about CR and it said his sponsors double all his winnings. so if you win a comp and first place pays say 5,000. You can make 20,000 if your sponsors double it. But not all skiiers get payed just for published stuff, think even some smaller pros like B Devine gets paid or he used to monthly from Spyder, or so Ive heard.
 
well jon plans to buy a ferrari if he wins xgames this year, so thats like at least 200000 dollars, can u say BLING!!!
 
Even though they may make a lot of money chances are there's no union that provides benefits like health insurance and stuff. So, chances are none of them have health insurance so when they get hurt they have to pay a lot of money. I know pro skateboarding has a union called pro that gives them benefits, but I don't know if skiing has anything like that
 
dude, Im pretty sure they would have to have insurance, it doesnt cost that much. Hell they do have parents too, perhaps they help them out with things like insurance costs.
 
i know that jon oslon got a monster contract from head. something like 4 mill for 4 years so that he wouldnt leave
 
they deff have insurane. look at what they r doing. if they didnt, it owuld be whack. even if the companies dont provide it, they must get private insurance.
 
Most do not get insurance through their sponsors. It is possible that some of the big names do, but I am not sure. Look at Boyd Easly, he got a pig ACL because he did not have insurance. I don't think the pig ligament worked, and he does not ski anymore. Any of these guys that do not have insurance are idiots, for 100 a month or so you can get a policy which will cover you in case of catastrophes. I tore my ACL and it probably cost 12 or 13 grand to fix, with rehab. I paid for 1500, insurance covered the rest. 100 a month may seem like alot, but it is nothing compared to the price of serious surgery. I advise anyone who does not have health insurance to go on-line and get it NOW. Do not ski without it. Doing so can put you in serious debt.
 
some comps you get like 10 grand and xgames you get like 20 grand plus a bonus from the sponsors so it depends on your results
 
in i think the second issue of freeskier there's a full breakdown on how it works. The dollar amount has probly gone up since then, but you get the idea at least.
