Pro "newschool" skiers that can actually ride park appreciation thread!

the vast majority of professional skiers could continue to compete with any number of the up and comers, as well as seasoned competitve park skiers if they chose to; however, it seems park just doesn't seem all that important to them. Look at tanner, he still dominates pipe; look at candide, he won x games, or the open, i dont know which. Both of them dedicate the majority of their seasons to the BC and/or filming. I don't think its that skiers who chose to focus on BC and film segments are necessarily intimidated by fellow competitors, it's just that BC is soooo much more fun. your ski season is no longer as repetitive as Tanner's pipe run that wins him so many contests. Instead, it offers exciting variables and new challenges that park skiing cannot achieve. I personally rode my snowmobile way more than park features this year, and know that i had a much more intersting and fun time this winter.

Its hard to "run away" from park skiing to Alaska because we got kids up here killing it just like the kids in the lower 48s kill park.
 
I don't think it has so much with them being scared of the kids, although there a tons of kids who kill it just as hard as the pros. It more has to do with them doing what they want to do. They like to ski for fun, not for glory, skiing park day in and day out can get boring
 
man some of your guys' reading comprehension skills are amazingly bad.

tom, i see where your coming from. it seems like a lot of guys who made it in park and then moved on can't do a lot of the stuff park hungry ams can. i'm sure we could agree on kids like the dadalis as an example. i don't think its fair to hate on the pros that moved on in the same argument. they arent using this uncomparable medium (BC, alaska) to pretend to be better than park enthusiasts. they ski it because its fun, not to hide. it makes sick video and photos as well, and its like a promotion.

hell, i think a job is a good comparision to your argument. someone works their way up the corporate ladder. soon they are a manager, living it up. It looks like the workers are progressing their skills, while some old man makes the shots and hides behind his position and desk. but if you put that manager back on the floor and give him a little bit of time, he will show you why he's boss...what a gay comparison, im sorry

i think the point of this thread could be adjusted to say "props to those pros who still feel it is necessary to show that they are still on top of their game in a way that most people can relate to"

exactly, you can go to a park whenever you want but going in the bc could feel like a once in a life time thing

mark ager/charlie dreb appreciation anyone? i mean, i have tried believe me, my body doesn't bend the same way as his, and trust me, he IS the hardest working man in skiing, i don't think i've ever heard someone grunt as loud as him in the air while overshooting a table with his landing gear in "ABSORB" mode so you can tell he is putting a lot of effort into his double guitar grabs.

oh and yes, props to the pros who are still keeping up to the am's in the park! which...if you think about it, doesn't really sound right AS the thread creator was saying.
 
most filmers would rather get epic shots in the backcountry than a park. I agree in some ways, its nice to see pros who are doing the same sport as you. I mean, jumping in the BC and stuff evolved from park skiing basically, or atleast the tricks did. The reason why shit is shot in the backcountry is because it allows you to be creative rather than just the same park jump everywhere. a 360 can be bigger or better in the way it is set in a certain environment. maybe your dropping 30 feet instead of launching 30 feet up. It just adds one extra aspect. Its nice to see some pros in the park tho, and i agree, it does put them on a more equal level to you. I can relate better because i dont get the chance to hit bc jumps. But to tell you the truth, i dont even get stoked on bc jumps unless they are super creative style or off a cliff. otherwise its the same as a park jump but landing on a more variable landing.
 
look at it this way.

You win x-games halfpipe and slopstyle. MSP, PBP, Rage, TGR or someone calls you saying "we wann film you, where do you want to go?" Would you say park or powder.

I would definitly prefer a free heli-trip over any park.
 
i agree that Dumont kills park, but mind pointing me in the direction of a sick Dumont big-mountain segment? i honestly don't know if it exists, and if it does i'd love to watch it, but i'm not holding my breath... he even said this season that he doesn't ski much pow, bc, or big mountain and it's something he wants to get into. i'd be careful about saying he kills it EVERYWHERE, since i'm not so sure we have evidence of that...
 
there's kids that kill the bigmountain too down here, you see them all the time at places like baker, crystal (even though i hate it), jackson and squaw.
 
yeah I saw some kids from Sugarbush and Snowbird that blew me away at their apparent ease at the crystal freeride comp, along with all the local guys. Shitty day, awesome skiers.
