It is alive once it has brain function, if we can take what we define as "death" into a situation as Lawrence said. Something can not be killed if it is not alive. Which brings me to the point, if something without cognitive brain function is alive, then you are a murderer of plants, a murderer of the meat you eat, regardless of whether you think that a human fetus is alive when the heart starts beating.
 
This is something that should be debated by women not by men. An all women congress shall be elected to decide this issue.

I wish more people would get abortions. I see some people that dont have any business raising kids and I feel terrible for the kid.
 
Also this is a stupid argument. You will never convince the other guys that you're right. One side believes that it's human life and your killing it, the other believes that it's just a fetus and no more murder than popping a pimple.

there shouldn't be any fucking consequences to sex, seriously. only some fucking numbnuts who's never had sex in his life would believe women should be punished for having sex, and likely that numbnuts will become a rapist because he doesn't respect women or their right to enjoy sex without being inseminated by some prick. in canada you can get abortions no fucking problem, no questions asked whether you were raped or not, because in canada women have rights. the fact that you even bring canada up in a discussion like this is fucking ridiculous, canada is beyond these stupid fucking pigs who sympathize with rapists.
 
If this be the case and they do have the child, the man should be included, but 9/10 times they dont stick around. and child welfare, while the money is great for the care of the child, the actual presence of a male figure is essential and most times its lacking. babies should be reserved to those who want to have one and will raise them and care for them properly. having a kid is a serious decision and after that- your wants are no longer and you dont live your life, you live the babies life.

why cant people setlle on rape? it's pretty clear that abortion in cases of rape should always be legal. i'm saying our government plays the favorite game on which lives they deem our important, and which aren't. our involvement in the middle east has killed tens of thousands innocent civilians and we don't seem to give a shit.

many republicans still oppose abortion even when the mother could potentially die during delivery (not that rare of an occurence). the parasite analogy was essentially just the idea of somethning unwanted being planted inside a person and the government telling that you can't control what goes on inside your own body.
 
i disagree, there are whole generations of men raised by women that are doing just fine, and i doubly disagree on the basis that any man who thinks women shouldn't have a right to choose whether or not they have a baby is totally unfit to care for any human being other than himself because he doesn't understand basic human rights.

If you had even the most basic understanding of science you'd know that very little in life can be "proved." Demanding that people prove some ambiguous human classification is meaningless. You can't prove the sun will rise tomorrow, yet you don't chastise those who believe it will. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

You don't even have to support abortion. But to deny womens' humanitarian and legal right to do so is painfully shortsighted and oppressive. And before you jump on me for saying "oppressive," no, fetuses do not have feelings.

I'm not saying that fetus's aren't alive until they are born, third trimester abortions are prettty damn fucked if you ask me, but fetus's don't have any more brain function then the egg you ate for breakfast until about twenty-four to twenty-seven weeks after conception.

Think about it like this. With your logic, a human isn't dead until they have disentegrated into absolutely nothing. Thats untrue. A human is legally dead when there brain stops funtioning, so why isn't it that they aren't alive until brain function begins? That makes absolute sense in my book.

uhhm i dont even know what to say to that...i just said that people in the US are never going to come to an agreement with abortion with rape, and yes i am on the fence with that one too, yes it does in fact suck that you got raped, and yes i think you should be supported in every way you can. but for now i still think that every baby (or fetus call it what you want) is still something that has to be taken care of.

No, but the philosophical implications of the "pro-life" (I hate bumper sticker slogans) movement are that abortion revokes a life, or at least a potential one, which can also be said about masturbation. The only difference is that the former involves a heart, which biologically doesn't really mean anything. Arguing that a heart constitutes a life is nothing more than a weak emotional appeal. Hypothetically, lets say you choose not to abort because for that reason, and the child is born into an unfit environment. The child's existence will be a burdon upon society by contributing to overpopulation, and unless its lucky, will be raised in less-than-optimal or even abusive environments. But hey, as long as the kid has a heartbeat, its conscious suffering doesn't matter, right?

You may have noticed my claim that birth is irresponsible, and in the grand scheme, it really is. A "fit" birth is more readily accepted because the marginal benefit of raising a child are justified by the marginal cost of bringing another human into existence. With unwanted children, the cost isn't justified.

I'm pretty much pro choice, as long as there are some rules. I think that each person should only be entitled to a certain number of abortions and anyone under the age of 18 should have to have parents consent(not sure if they need that now).
 
you are so stupid i wish someone would have aborted you. abortion is a means of taking care of a fetus, probably the safest most humane thing you could do to a fetus whose mother doesn't want it to be born. why americans can't agree on basic human rights and scientific facts is beyond me, but i will say you are likely to contribute to disagreements over such things because not only do you think this shit can't be resolved, you are too fucking stupid to see anything from the view of a woman living in a world where pigheaded men get to decide what she can and can't do with her own body.
