Prizm, ChromaPop or other?

I used prizm lenses for the first time last weekend. Idk if it was placebo or they actually worked, but I feel they bring out definition in the snow better. My brother who has normal polarized lenses kept complaining about how he couldn't see the random bumps and such. I couldn't understand why he said that because they were so clear to me. I credit the prizm.

Just be be clear polarization and colour enhancement tech (i.e. Chromapop/prizm/happy lens etc.) are NOT the same thing. I’m not an expert, I literally took five minutes to read the FAQ sections of a couple of manuafactuers websites and found this. PLEASE if you want to better understand polarization refer to a different thread of website. This thread is for discussing exactly what is in the title: ‘Prizm, ChromaPop or other.’

Polarizing stops light ‘noise’ caused by glare, reflection and refraction of light so you see the first version of the light. In turn this helps to get better colour and contrast in the image you see.

Colour enhancement technology or CET (I made that up because I don’t actually know what the fuck it’s called since every company has a different name for it but you get the picture) helps to identify what colour your actually supposed to be seeing because when light wavelengths cross the colour changes and gets distorted. This helps so to see every nook and cranny of the terrain even in whiteout conditions.

Again I’m not an expert but that’s what I understand to be true. Either way CET is not just some marketing scam, it actually works I just haven’t tried every version of it.

Hope this helps :)

I own most of the big brands' hype lenses. Prizm, chromapop, Von Zipper wildlife, Dragon optimized, Spy happy... Used them all in various lens colors and conditions and at the end of the day I think they're all dick next to a good old fashioned black lens. For my eyes, the bluish grey tint of a black lens makes snow and shadows pop better than anything else. Prizms suck in flat light. I don't know where people get the idea they're good but last time I rode in flat overcast crap I almost ate shit because I missed some death cookies with my prizm rose oaks on. Swapped out for my cheapie VZ cleavers with a blackout and I saw every detail in precise clarity. Obviously not for night riding, but that's what clear/nightstalker/yellow is for. If I really had to, I could go the rest of my life with a black and clear lens. It's fun to have a quiver of gogs but I really think most of it is hype. With that said, if we're talking good looks, my favorite lens is probably Dragon green ion. Looks sick and actually has a pretty good all around tint.

reality is theyre the same technology with different names... go with whichever you like better/ fits better/ can get cheaper

Different technologies... Prizm is a synthetic filter that is designed to enhance contrast and saturation, hence the hue you see when looking through it. ChromaPop is a filter that is designed to correct color confusion by blocking wavelengths at specific interactions that then gives you enhanced color seen. Although they both effect what you see they are not the same. However I do agree that purchasing what fits best on the face and in the budget is the way to go.

I heavily disagree with this statement.

After two seasons of use, plenty of face plants, and getting pulled by velcro they live perfectly fine. Fight me. Only damage I ever got was on the lenses doing shit that should’ve scratched or even broken them.

first week with mine i took a knee to the face and cracked part of the frame, i'll post a pic if i can find them. Also I probably should have tried to get them warrantied.

I'd say hold off till the next season gear comes out, pretty much all the brands are releasing some amazing gear. Lens wise the contrasting tech in all the brands do pretty much the same thing just in slightly different ways (chromapop focus on different light color cross over points, prizm influences the colors you see). Smith are great with their anti-fog coating as it's in bedded in the lens. Go with Smith or Oakley I'd say and be careful when buying them make sure to have a look at the lens for deep scratches.
