Pretty fucked up...

First of all, let me introduce myslef, I'm Robin, 17 and I live in this idiot country called the Netherlands. I hate it here and I'm going to move as soon as I'm finished with school...

But that's not really important now, I think I have big problems at my school. But before I tell more you need to know that the rules at my school are pretty strict... Ok, here come's the story....

I had a biology test a few days ago, a test that sucked. The questions in the test had nothing to do with the stuff we needed to learn, so basically the teacher sucked at making the questions. But while I was making this test I thought, why should I write my name above it?!? If I don't write my name above it I might have a second chance of making the test better at another time. So I don't write my name above the test and give it to the teacher, he didn't saw my name wasn't upon it. I thought; nice, I'm going to have a second chance whitout any problems... I thought, stupid me, the real world was a little bit different...

Today I had my first lesson after the test, when everybody is in the classroom the teacher starts telling the scores. Till he said there was some "unknown guy" who made the test without writing his name above it ( I hope you understand it was me)... This " unknow guy" had a score of 45%, basically, the result sucked...

I think shit, I hope he doesn't find out that I'm the unknown guy. Luckily he didn't, after the lesson I told him that I didn't made the test because I slept trough my alarm clock (is that the right name?). So he says; Ok, why don't you make it tuesday morning? I thought, yeah, I'll make it tuesday morning, problem solved...

But you have to know that once in a while our teachers have a meeting about the results from the students... The problem is that I've told my mentor (a teacher who helps you with all te problems at school. You don't have a mentor for yourself, a mentor has a class with students and their schoolproblems) that the biology teacher sucked and the test he made sucked. Just 30 minutes after I told this they going to have this meeting, so suddenly I realized I was in big trouble. My mentor would talk to my biology teacher about the test... But how the hell could I say that the test sucked if I didn't made the test?!?

I was already cycling back to my home when I realized this, so I raced back to school to tell my mentor that I was talking about the first test. Not the second test where I was the "unknown guy", I told this my mentor just before they had this meeting... I hope they don't find out I'm the "unknown guy", that would suck bigtime.. Simply because the punishment won't be small.... Aaah, hope my mentor doesn't call...

Ok, that's basically my story for today, hope it's readable.

Robin

LOL.

If the questions sucked so much, everyone would bomb the test and a curve would be assigned.

Honestly sounds like you just biffed a test. Sack up and deal with it.

You know, more than 60% of the class had a awful result, which wasn't higher than 55%. But the school won't do anything about it, it's real bullshit. This is the second time I'm doing this year, but last year I was good in biology. I ended with a score of 68%, not a bad result.

But this year we have new teachers and new books, the 2 things that cause the bullshit. The teacher is really a idiot, he can't even explain the things in the book properly. Besides that, the book is really not clear, very difficult to learn...

Maybe the Netherlands is different, but a 65% is absolutely terrible.

Sounds to me like you shouldn't be on NS and should be studying and finding info on the web that will explain things better than your teacher or your book.

In life, you're going to get a few shitty teachers here and there, but it is your job to learn the info regardless.

A score of 65% means you have 65% good, it's not bad, it's not really good, it's mediocre. You have to see it like this, if you have a score of 100% then you're really good. If you have a score of 10% then you suck, the minimum result you can get is a result of 10%. So if you blew the whole test, you will always have a score of 10%.

I don't have time to learn my biology know, I'm typing a text for another subject; Dutch.

BTW: We don't talk about percents, a score of 100% is here a " 10", a score of 65% is "6,5". And thanks for the advice!

Bah, by 0.5%, haha. 64.4% and below was failing.

80% here is mediocre, 75% is below average, and 65% is far below average.

I'm just amazed that this hasn't bit you in the ass yet though. How has the teacher not gone thru all the tests with names, and linked them to people who have taken the test and make it very clear who HASN'T taken the test?

In most of the world, 65% is a quite decent average past grade 9. The school system is a lot more intense too. And to the thread creator, cheating is not cool, I hope you get caught simply because there's no reason why you should have a second chance and not the others.

Cool man! I really appreciate your compliment, never had that from an English talking person!

@ French-Fry: I know it's not good to cheat but it was just an impulsive action, I also think that the other people in my class deserve the chance of doing the test again. But this idiot teacher won't let us do it again, which isn't smart either for the teacher himself. It's not a good performance when your whole class has low grades...

I guess I just don't see things the same way.

If you ask me, only getting 65% of the answers right on a test shows you only know a little over HALF of the content.

Sorry, I think I didn't explained it right, a score from 65% doesn't mean you've only had 65% of the questions answered right. It's just a number, you could leave the "%" away. I said 65% just to let it look easier for you guys.

When the teacher checks the test there comes a certain amount of points from the questions. Like a difficult question counts for 3 points and an easy question counts for 1 point. At the end of the test the teacher ads the points up, he puts the total of all the points in some formula. Like (total points/9)+1, that's just an example. The number that comes out of this formula is your actual result, I hope you understand what I mean.

i think it differs in each state too. when i was in 6th grade 6 years ago, it was still a 70. i heard in mass, you only need a 60 to pass.

You shouldnt wish for him to get caught. He deserves the second chance because he cares enough to not accept a bad grade and find a way to do it again to improve.

Good luck otto

ya man your english is very very well spoken (errr i guess typed in this case). that sucks that the test was hard, good luck on the second time around.

I noticed that when i was rocking across Holland, that everyone had really good English, it was almost annoying as they seemed excited to use it on me and I never got to test MY language skills lol. The tv is in both languages to, which is cool.

mined locked the door so people couldn't get in if they were late.

made them sit outside for about 15 min.

How do you edit your own text? I can't find an edit-button. Whatever, my whole sentence was "Thanks for all the support, I'll pray for snow for you guys..;)"

yeah, for us its 65% to pass. they were going to change it to 70 but then they didnt.

like 78% or some random number is average, 85% is something, and 92% is considered mastery

dude how did you expect the teacher not to realize you were the "unknown guy". teachers kind of have this list of students thingy and take role everyday whether they do it out loud or not...

i think he knew who didnt write their name on the test... just fyi

theirs no way that that would work if a teacher looks in his gradebook and sees a recorded test score for all his studnets he would match you up with the one student who didnt have a recorded test score. process of elimnation.

2 school days later and the teacher hasn't discovered that I'm the "unknown guy", I think he didn't discovered it because we made the test with 3 classes (90 people). So there are always a few people missing...

Oh yeah, is he the only one that did poorly? Did nobody do well in the class? Regardless, cheating is never cool. Do well the first time or accept your grade and go talk to your teacher about it. Cheaters have no morals.

That reminds me of a story my dad told me about these 4 guys who have an exam on Monday and they decide to celebrate a little the night before in Boston since it is their last exam and they know all the material perfectly. Well, they end up sleeping through the exam the next morning and they say to their teacher that they got a flat tire on the way back so the couldn't make the test. They asked for a retake. The teacher said sure and set up a time the next day so they could make it up. The test, the teacher says, is really short. They each get it and read the only question asked: Which tire?

You tried cheating (although a good idea that failed) and you got owned for telling lies. Then you try to take your anger on your country and teachers? wtf?
