Preseason Lifting?

Does anybody do much lifting to get in shape for skiing or just to stay in shape? im not in any weight classes this year and im not gonna do club lacrosse so i'm pretty much getting in the gym this year on my own and i was just wondering if anybody had a routine they did. i just figured that as long as i'm on campus with pretty crazy student facilities i should try and hit it to get ready and maybe put on my freshman 15 in muscle, haha.

I do splits, every other day

Split 1: Chest/Triceps

Split 2: Bicepts/Back

Split 3: Shoulders/Legs

Just don't half ass lifting, and you'll see results... as soon as you get it down to a routine it's no prob.

Yeah, I lift 5 to 6 days a week.... one body part a day, but i kill it hard.... Ive been liftin for about 2 years now.... I don't do it to train for skiing, I just do it to keep in shape. It keeps me busy, and my friends are all muscle heads so I got addicted to it fast.. But, its a good way to get ready for the season anyways

lifting always helps ... but you should also do stuff like jumprope and explosive leg training gives you quicker feet, better balance, cardio, all that good stuff.

it's important so stay in shape, however, skiing works muscles you usually dont use. in that case, its hard to 'train' for skiing.

well, my cardio includes a couple bounces on my tramp, then im done

and my lifting includes goin to subway, then lifting my sub to my mouth, thats about it

Make sure to stretch a lot. Especially if you are bulking up and trying to get mass. I agree with whoever said focus on one thing a day. But take a day or two off a week just to to give your muscles time to repair themselves. Also key is to try to find a time of day when the gym isnt packed, nothing worse than waiting in line to use a piece of equipment.

A brave man will not live forever but a coward will never live.

i lift just for the sake of doin, but the best way i've found to lift is to work trieps, sholders, and chest one day biceps, abs, bak, and legs the next and then rest for one day. and do mainly freeweights that helps build the best

i lift 3 days a week for soccer and i can tell a big difference, i do alot of leg exercises so ill be okay for winter, but strength i dont think is as much a factor as common sense or flexibility

I used to run a lot and work out and eat right for soccer but then I got cut so now I just sit around and eat all day. But for school I'll probably start workin out everyday and get all strong for racing(skiing).

ya u got it man.... now, it all depends on what you want your body type to be. The more reps you do the more cut you will get. If you want to just gain mass, then you should do less reps more sets at a higher weight. You are training for lacrosse so im sure you just wanna get cut, and big at the same time huh....Just remember though when you are lifting to always change your workout, I stick to one workout for a month, and then totally change it the next. If you stick to the same workout, your body adjusts to it, and your body type will just get to a point where it doesnt get any bigger. Anyways, thats alot of info, but heres my workout sched.

Monday- Chest

Tuesday- Back

Weds- Shoulders

Thurs- Arms (Bi's/Tri's)

Fri- Light Chest Workout to tone out my chest

Sat/Sun- I usually take the weekend off to give my body a breather, Your muscles only get bigger during your recovery time, not when your lifting, so its good to take days off and let them rest.

This is also a workout plan to just try and get bigger. If your playing a sport, you are going to be doing more workouts that just keep your muscles in shape, and keep you agile. Like you may be doing 3 body parts a day, but really lightly

For everyday I usually do about 5-6 excercises depending on how im feeling that day. This month I am doing like a really extensive workout that I read about thats hard to explain. But just start off doing 3 sets of reps of 10, and do about 5 excersises. Then the next month try 3 sets of 12, then 4 sets of 10, and then switch it up to 10,8,6,3 and do higher weight. I know its real confusing, so just hit me back with any questions. Also, a good thing to do is to pick up Muscle Fitness mag, they give alot of good advice. But stay away from supplements and the ad's, they just fuck u up in the long run

Anyways, if u got any other questions just keep messagin me

Pat

Oh yeah, you misheard me, i said i wasnt doing club lacrosse cause its pratically an all year thing and lax already cut a ton of skiing out but i might do intramural. naw, im just doing it mostly for skiing so i'll probably replace one or two of those days with legs and another with core stuff in addition to some kinda cardio. do you do a lot of secondary lifts with that routine? and it kinda sounds like a long term pyramid deal, kinda cool..

I also try and lift my legs once a week, but I get real lazy when it comes to legs... squats, lunges, calf raises etc... sucks

Yeah it is sorta like a pyramid routine in a way. Don't get into anything fancy yet though, just start off doing light sets and reps cause you don't want to overwork your muscles. Muscles grow when you tear them, and sometimes when you overwork your muscles right when you start lifting, you can ruin your growth patern, which will fuck everything up in the long run. Just do alot of cardio in between working out to get the blood flowing, take some days off, and start off easy and work your way up

oh yeah, another thing, do you pay a lot of attention to time or do you just go naturally in between sets?

Every day lifting is fun too do. But now its just soccer. That tends to do the trick for me. Never really thought of lifting just for skiing, but then again i live in ohio so we don't have any leg burning runs here.

Thats just my opinion

B.F.S.C

We do it froggy style!

the time they say the wait in between sets is usually how long it takes u to get the weights on there or hit on some chick, or get a drink, or take a pee, no one really pays attention

They say that your workout should never be longer then like an hour, because I guess that is when your Testosterone is the highest, and after an hour it just weakens and those last few sets become somewhat pointless. I do about like 6 excercies for the major muscles (chest, back, shoulders) but for bi's and tri's i just do like 4 exercises. Whenever you are working out your chest back and shoulders you are always doing bi's and tri's too, so thats why u dont gotta lift them as much

In between sets u gotta stretch man, stretching out your muscles and let them tear a little so that they can grow, real important.... i stretch in between almost every excercise and get a drink to, ya gotta walk past the chics on the treadmills on a consistent basis, haha

i just started to do a little bit of lifting and working out for socccer and skiing.

i like to burn things

i can do a summersault

for legs is doing 50 reps of 70lbs good on those things where you lift up the wieght next to your ankles? i do like 50 reps then do a different thing then come back and do 50 more reps

i like to burn things

i can do a summersault

Yeah, your legs will def get strong doin that. Its good to do burnout sets after a set to, do something real light and let your muscles just burn right through it.... i hate lifting legs though, i get so lazy

i like squatting, its pretty fun, especially on the toliet. *giggle* but yeah, lower legs are my strength

i can leg extension 315 pounds. like 5 times. its fun

Start with low weights and do like 5 reps, up the weight do 5 more reps, up the weight do 5 more....keep going till you cant do anymore at the max then work your way back down. Remember high reps with low weight tones...high weight with only a few reps builds mass.

A brave man will not live forever but a coward will never live.

if i am to do burnout sets I do it with something pretty light. If I was to be doing straight bench press with dumbells of like 85 pounds each, I would do burnout sets of like 35. Do about 6-8 reps of burnouts or until I fail. Its not about weight, its about being able to put it up and have your body fail out on it

'I'm far from broke, got enough bread and mad hoes, ask Beavis I get nuttin Butt-head' - Big L

what the fucks gross about pressing 900 pounds? besides, leg press isnt hard i know i can do 750 pretty easy or so.... but yeah, anyway, lift, definitely because anything to build muscle around and take pressure off of your joints will be very helpful and beneficial in preventing injury, i go as often as i can... i'd like 5 days a week but that ussually doesnt happen.

I think the most important things to work on are your legs, abs and back... They are the most vunerable parts of your body when it comes to pulling or tearing muscles... And no matter what time of year it is you should stretch at least once a day, you'd be suprised how much some extra flex in the air can help you do some kick ass grabs and shit.

Yeah man your right, stretching is soooooooooo important, cause when you lift and ski for that matter its so easy to pull a muscle. You gotta get the muscles ready especially for intense shit

i play soccer to stay in shape (leg strength, lung capacity, knee and ankle flexibility) and that seems to help a lot. that and mountain biking, which is a lot like skiing.
