Just put my snow tires on at my dads shop a week ago! I'll put the roof racks on the first time I go skiing which will hopefully be in the beginning of December

dope swap and did you go front mount cause if you did you should watch out for icing and i just put the snows on my STi and now i have to get racks

I just don't understand subys. There so damn low they bottom out on everything right?? You can't drive them on a dirt road with more then a 4 inch rut. How can you even consider this a good all season off road vehicle??

Yes it is easier to bottom out, but you can prevent it 100%. Went offroading with some friends - a Hummer H3, a Land Rover Discovery, and my stock WRX. They had some trouble and everywhere they went, I went, no issues.

Yea with preventive driving which takes alot of the fun out of going off road. But what happens when you end up in the ditch when there is more then three inches on the ground? Those other vehicles will most likely be able to drive out in that situation when your stuck looking for a pull. I just don't understand low cars being advertised as take anywhere vehicles

I really wish I had a half-ton truck right now that I could post in here, claiming how stoked I am to have my machine ready for winter. Instead I have a Camry and borrow my mom's XC90 when there's snow on the road.

preparing my suby for winter requires me raising the coilovers and putting snow tires on. tires are the hard part

Don't need to do anything to my jeep for the winter, besides an oil change that's about it she's ready to rip

i want your car sooo much! What year is it? and that's a forester xt right?? Does it have a turbo in it?

I have forester XT suspension that is going on it for the winter. it raises is 2.5 inches from where it sits now. the steelies have my snows and my BBS have my summers. 16" steelies just fit over my 4 pot brakes. and No roof rack because I have a wagon with a nice rubber matt in the back. No need to get my skis all poopy when driving

I just gave my stock Forester suspension to your opposite. lol. White Leggy gt w/wrx swap. I cant wait to see it!

Is it necessary to tune your car for winter? As in more than just swap tires??

I have an 07 Impreza Sport, haven't gotten winters yet since I have no money. But it'll just me some good tires on steelies. Anything else that is truly essential?

I should check. I crashed it in the summer and it needed a whole new end. Hopefully they put winter liquids in it

its always good to do new wipers and de-icer for wind shield washer fluid. check oil and brake fluid and brake pads just to be safe. NOT required. I also run a different oil in the winter.

k sports because im poor. its a 2004, yes its a xt, and yes it haz turbo. the coils are actually going to be for sale in the next month, because im super poor.

to op, dope car. lemme see that engine!

i ride a bike to the mountain. throw som tire chains on that shit and hall ass over loveland pass in a snow storm.

also fro the preventative maintenance question if you have an intercooler water spray system i would recommend draining it and flushing your lines because there is a good chance of it freezing

snow tires are so over rated. seriously. i dont think they do shit.

i'm from minnesota and no one there uses snow tires.

its a safety misconception if you ask me. its like people who have four wheel drive and dualies think they wont slide off the road, etc..

your car is only as good as the driver.

i will add these things you should do:

check that you do have good tread on your tires.

coolant is up to par and wont freeze.

windshield wipers and washer fluid.

ice scraper in your car

if you have a car with a smaller radiator, a higher temp rated thermostat would help to get better heat in your car for when its really cold.

and good oil. could even run a little thinner oil..

and brakes. specially if your in mountains. not so much a big deal coming from the midwest.. but yea.

i know some of those things were mentioned.. but i couldnt remember which..

yea... i also lived in colorado for a year.. they're real popular out there. bought a car there that came with em..

i wish i could prep my car...it seems backwards but i finished college then got rid of my car :S
