Premier Not Capturing

When attempting to capture video all I get is a grey screen and for stills I get a nice little message. Does anyone else get this shit? It has been happening all week, not just once. I have closed the program and reopened it, unplugged the DV, and rebooted the whole farking thing numerous times all to no avail...and I have plenty of RAM. Am I going to have to reinstall?

wait...have you been able to upload before, or are you just trying now? cause if this is the first time then your probably not using the right cord...you need a firewire or i-link cable, not that USB shit they give you in the box.

this has also occured to me. i get the message that tells me that the device is unavailable for control... it just stopped working out of the blue one day... now i have to use this otheghetto fabulous program to capture, but it looks pretty hooptie...

if you get the gray screen it means it isnt connecting to your capturing device. Make sure the camera is turned on in 'Play' mode before you open the capture window. You might have to tell your computer what kinda video camera you have also.

thanks for the tips....BUT I AM NOT SOME FUCKING RETARD! i know how to use the program, it just happened out of the blue. I was capturing some vid and then i went to capture a still (not closing any programs or unplugging any thing) and it gave me lip. fuck, the premier cd is at my parents house an hour and a half away...FUCK!

Yuh that happened to me. If it was the first time you captured try installing the drivers for the camera again. If that doesnt work, then you might just have to install it again :/

there shouldnt be any camera drivers if your using ilink or firewire...i really have no idea...what kind of camera do you have?

Yeah premiere does that randomly on my comp too...I can capture 2 or 3 sets and then it just decides to quit. Usually rebooting clears it up for me but not always. I just use another program to capture now

yeah, it has happened to me too, it's a pain in the ass, but if i turn off my camera and disconnect my FW then reconnect it it usually works again.

you could call tech support. but you probably pirated it anyway and this is my philosophy on piracy. If you aren't smart enough to figure it out on your own you should buy it for the manual. you also might need to have your camera pluged in when you load premier, since thats when it loads the capture drivers. The drivers could have been damaged as well.

 
defragmate your harddrive kunz. May help..my photoshop was doing weir dshit and wouldnt let me save.. I defragged and its fine again

the magic pixie dust isn't travelling from the camera to the computer, make sure there are no knots in the cable :-)

interesting, what cameras would take usb? is usb 1.0 fast enouugh? mine is only rca jack, s-video, and the firewire 4 pin (canon gl1).

 
ok but how, is there some firewire adaptor that you plug into it? cause I've been telling people to buy firewire cards, but if they could do it with usb mine as well save them a little money (maybe) and the hastle of opening there box up.

 
defreagging organizesfiles in your harddrive so that there is less search time looking for it. Or atleast tat what i'm told and some bigger geak will yell at me for being wrong,

For USB, the camera would come with a cord that plugs into where firewire plugs into, but ends as a USB plug. It is very slow however and takes awhile to capture one movie.

reinstall the dv drivers of the cam and the usb ones... you can always reinstall the program too!

when your trying to import, just make sure your importing from the right place...

CHECK THIS SHIT YO....i went to capture again, of course it didn't work...so i got pissed, naturally. then i realized that i had windows movie maker, yay, and tried capturing with that...which worked...so looks like im going to have to reinstall the program...which is at my parents house, dammit.
