Preferring rails over jumps?

idk y but i cant do shit on jumps. this year i have progressed a shit load on rails with 270s on and off and sw ups and such, not to mention hitting rails that i never woulda hit b4 this season, but i have a sort of mental block when i comes to jumps. i just straight air them. i spent like 3 hours today trying to will myself to throw a 3 over a 45 ft table but just couldnt get myself to even try. im pretty sure id get it too because ive done some 3s on a 30 ft jump pretty easily. i guess what im saying is im a pussy at learning shit on jumps. anyone else the same way?

I am way better at rails than jumps, mainly because my hill doesn't build jumps and when they do they are quite small. I can do like 3s but thats pretty much it. I should learn some new stuff in the air on sunday when I finally get a chance to hit some nice jumps.

complete opposite. im such a pussy when it comes to rails, but ill hit most jumps, i think its cuz ive had a couple bad experiences with rails

yea dude i usually hit that barrier at the beginning of the season, im really scared of spinning big jumps.
just turn up your music and sack up, its really the only option

lol our jump got taken out, and then I learned to do rails alot better than before because I had no choice. and now that they put a jump in I still enjoyed doing rails more even though I'm not good at either rails are more fun right now IMO

i think once you realize that falling on a nicely built 40 foot' jump hurts about as much as falling on a shitty 10 ft jump youll be alright. depending on how soft the landing is/ how retarted you land

i am way opposite. i can spin the biggest jumps but i can barely pretzel out straight rails. rails just seem harder to me and scarier.

we don't have a park at my home mtn so I'm really not too experienced with rails. We just go out and build jumps and we hike some lift rails in, but those 5 foot things don't count as rails. I much prefer skiing on snow than sliding on metal anyways.

i am way better at rails then jumps. a normal rail i can 2 and pretzel 2 off pretty easily. (sorry for my claim) but on jumps i can throw ugly ass 3s,5s, sometimes a 7 but thats lucky. all my friends are the opposite of me to

sorry but that is not true at all. Falling at 30 mph when you over rotate a trick hurts a hell of a lot more then off a ten or 20 foot jump.

id have to say thats true. part of the reason im more likely to try shit on rails. ur usually only a few feet off the ground and not going nearly as fast as when u hit jumps

that is how i feel too but i have to say its true about the jump things. like i have a friend who ate shit on a 45 footer at keystone a bunch of times and was alright and i ate shit on a little jump there and felt worse. it depends how you fall on the jump though. like catching an edge and throwing yourself into the ground off a bigger jump would hurt much more

I preffer rails to jumps because there are so many more possibilities in the way that the same trick can look completely different when different people do it unlike rails where tricks usually look pretty stock and similar

i think you meant you like jumps more, unless its too late and i read it wrong haha

anyways, i like jumps alot more. much more room to progress and learn new stuff, whereas unless you got some dank rails set up its hard to progress past a certain point. our rails at my mt suck too so thats part of it

im sorry but you people disgust me, Im stuck skiing at an RCR resort and the only way to get some air is to jump over rails. It might be cause i suck at rails but I miss jumps so much, you dont even know and i think the feeling of being in the air is way better than the one of sliding on metal ;

i have more confidence going big rather than riding a rail.....i only do the flat rails unless i can find a c rail somewhere....

I guess I am equal, i used to think i was more of a rail person but I realized that our park barely has anything besides flat rails, the rest are boxes and i still have a hard time with the harder boxes

What I think is the scariest about jumps for me is the feeling of so much speed you get going up a incline, but once your in the air and you know your gonna clear it and that you can do this, then its very satisfying. I believe that getting the balls to finally clear that 40ft table you have been looking at all year or stomping that 360 that you were imaging for a while off that 30ft, is more satisfying over doing a butter on a box or something (unless u just nailed a nasty ass urban)

im much more of a rail person...they are just so much fun, and you can throw in so much style... love em

I'm about the same ability as you and I much prefer rails, and it's definitely the whole speed and height thing. Even tho in December a rail claimed a few of my vertebrae (as in broke them lol) I still prefer to slide than proper spins - also just feels more in control cos i've done more of them i spose.

each to their own i spose.

yeah im the same way. i can do like sw ups and 270 on/off and pretzels and rails but i can barely straight air a 20 ft jump. i can 360 a 10 footer but thats it. could it be cuz im only 5 ft tall?

in fact you are wrong man.

i do mainly jump and exept for 60+ jumps, you wont hurt your self harder on a 45 than on a 10 .

just hit harder and you slide longer down the landing.

but at high speed your skis will pop out and you l just be on the ground. on smal jumps you might realy hurt yourself bad if you r going too long wich is pretty easy.

plus short jumps are always crappy cause every one hits them so they are not in great shape.

jumping is scary but fun.and impressive.

im way better at rails and less scared also...only because my mountain doesnt know how to biuld landings its like landing on flat ground its terrible

nah your height doesnt ahve much to do with it, look at simon dumont he is short but he rips everything from jumps to rails

I dunno which I'm better at, but both are fun in their seperate ways. Somedays I'm feeling jumping, and some days I'm feeling hitting some rails...

it all depends- if the 10 or 20 ft jump has a flat icy landing its gonna hurt more than a steep nice landing on a bigger table. I like jumps way better by the way. I'm not scared of rails although I'm not that good at them. I just would much rather jump so i hardly ever do rails. Pretty much the only time I do rails is when I hurt myself jumping.

agreed i can stomp mad rail shit every which way all day without crashing and hirting myself but on jumps on the ec i can only get smooth shit up to 5 and switch 5 and if try to go bigger i always end up crashing really bad and ending the day so i get really scared, like really really scared piss my pants scared on the brink of tears scared. two weeks ago i had to get 8 stitches cuz i crashed and now im just a little bitch.lits when i drop in and u know ur just flyin and all i think of is how bad im gonna crash

bingo!

but i have to say i like features like cliffs outside of the park way more, they just seem more natural, and i can land on powder, but if its crappy conditions and im in the park, its jumps all the way. I just dont get any thrill from sliding on a rail compared to flying through the air.

depends how im feeling, some days all i will want to do is jump, other days all i want to do is hit rails, im not amazing at either but whatever

I like jumps a lot, but am more comfortable with rails. My favorite thing is to do numerous tricks on the same feature, I just need to be able to do that with more variety on jumps. Though it doesn't help that where Im skiing has one legit jump and some decent rails.

i can hit both fine but rails are ALOT more fun. Its more rewarding when you stomp a new jump but i could session rails all day long.

does anyone else think that right side and left side spinning matter alot less on rails than jumps. i can right 450/630/810 out yet i can barely land a clean right 5 off a 20ft jump.

im way better at rails than i am at jumps, i guess thats how it works for the eastern bound like me.

the only rail i hit now is in my backyard. and thats only when i cant get a ride out to my mtn to hit the jumps and pipe.

i havent hit a resort rail all season, not to say i cant, i can do all the cool stuff 27 on + off sw ups, i just dont think rails are fun.
