Pre-Employment Drug Test

So I have a bit of a concern that I thought I would ask NS about...

I have a pre-employment drug screening tomorrow. A few summers ago I broke my back and slipped some discs. The back pain still hurts me today. They never really gave me anything for my back, but my mom had an old scrip for Vicodin which she gave me. When my back is really hurting me to the point where I can't really work I will occasionally take a Vicodin.

They are 5mg/500mg pills, I took one yesterday around 3pm. It was the first time I had taken one in a couple of weeks so I am in no way a regular user. My test is tomorrow morning at 9 am. Think it will show up?
 
if they don't watch you, slip a vile of bleach in your pocket and put it in the test

Why don't you just explain to them exactly what you told us. It sounds like a legitimate reason that you're taking the pills. Don't not tell them and then have it come up on the test and then try and explain it - take the initiative so you don't look like an idiot.
 
it tests for major substances that these pills would contain...
its like saying drug tests screen you for weed, which is true, but not exactly. they test you for an identifying substance in that drug, such as THC
 
Half-life of Hydrocodon is 3.8 hours and it will have been about 40 hours since I took it. It was a 5mg dose so it means there will be ~9 ng in my body by that time. You have to have 300 mg/ml it looks like to test positive, which is quite a bit. I should be fine since I'm not a regular user.
 
Give your mom a heads up and ask her to come in with you and here is what you do.
Mom- "I'm so sorry, his back was hurting him really bad so I gave him one of my prescription pills with out really telling him what it was other than pain killers. If I had known about this test, I would have brought him in to the doctor."
I'd say thats is your best bet.
 
You should be fine.

Vicodin contains codine which is what would show up on the test and as u mentioned before since your not a regular user there will only be a trace of it left in your system after 2 days.
 
Ya depending on the place sometimes they pad you down and they told me not to run water while peeing. Your best bet is to stay true to your word. If you happen to fail then they'll at least have a heads up. Its better then getting caught. I think you'll be good becasue there not so much lookin for that, just the pot, and if you dont take them daily then it leaves your system way quicker.
 
To be honest, if you're a fairly active guy, I don't think there will be any amounts left in your body after two days.
 
definitely give them a heads up that you've taken vicodin. opiates show up on a test, but it doesn't matter as long as they've been prescribed to you. taking one won't show as abusive levels, so there shouldn't be any issue. they'll probably ask you if you're taking any medication - just say yes and describe the situation. should be in the clear.
 
sorry for the double post - i know these were prescribed to your mom & not you, but if you've ever been prescribed vicodin before, then you'll be ok. it's not like they can tell that the pill you took was not from your original script.
