Pre-1242 skiing pictures...

Not exactly a picture... or something I had any involvement with beyond it helping change my life.

Skis were invented thousands of years ago by nordic hunters who needed to skid across the ice. Surely someone was sliding down snowy hills in 1242. Just think, if they learned future spins then we might be seeing them soon? Keep an eye out for cave people come 2160.

This is a depiction of skaði, the Norse Goddess associated with skiing, bowhunting, winter and mountains. She is also reffered to as Öndurguð, which means "Ski God" and Öndurdis, which means "Ski Lady"

Anyhow, early primitive carvings from around 5000 B.C. depict a skier with one pole, located in the Nordland region of Norway. The first primitive ski was found in a peat bog in Hoting, Sweden which dates back to 2500 or 4500 B.C.
