Pray for the pope

The pope is a man just like me ane you. He is no closer to God than anyone of you. I feel bad that he is dying, but no more than I would for any old man. There is a reason that the catholic church has had so many difficulties and scandals, and that is because they have placed all their faith in men that are sinners just like you and me, and when those men screw it up it seems so unbelievable to those of you who are so sold on their intercession w/ God. Try reading and interpreting the Bible literally and for youself, and then show me where it says anything about the pope. I feel sorry for those involved in a religion so stooped in tradition, and blind to what the Bible really teaches.

were all infallible beings, every human, the pope just has led an extraordinary life, and has touched millions of people to live better and more enriched lives, i think he deserves some kind of recognition and reverance for that, in my eyes he is a living saint

atlantaski, you're a bit of a hypocrite, isnt part of being christian being tolerant of others, and turning your cheek and stuff... seems like your doing a really good job of that. I think some people take the whole christianity thing a little too far, as great as it is that you have something to believe in, that doesnt mean that it is the best and absolute truth in the world, and that anyone who doesnt agree with what you believe in is automatically going to hell. are you saving yourself for marriage atlantaski? can you really blame the africans for wanting to get thier shit off?? when jesus was around, maybe the idealisms of catholicism stood true, but after all the events in history that have used that religion as a front have corrupted it and ultimately proven that it is a religion if intolerance and biggotry. During the crusades, the islamics living in spain were a good 400 years ahead of thier catholic european counterparts: plumbing, geometry and algebra, a revival of the greek logos, medicine, 7 course meals, democracy and equality, then boom, the crusades happened in the name of god and the christian faith immediately prolonging the dark ages and setting civilization back 400 years. theres just too many honkeys out there using it as a front for racism and intolerance, i personally feel bad for the pope, but it's an outdated religion and one that i feel no one can rightly crusade for in our modern society

I think that, although he deserves some respect for the good he has done, what he has done is highly over rated. There have been many others who many people havn't even heard of.

i didnt take the time to weed through all the bullshit and intelligent posts so im risking being redudent, but here it goes anyways. I have been raised catholic but dont practice and have a lot of moral objections to religion in general and how it has been twisted and used to justify violence ect.. but there's definately a shitload of people in here condemning him without any more valid reasons then "the pope sucks" or something to that effect, but hes not a bad person, just cause you disagree with him, so whatever if people wanna pray for him let them

All right im not religious, so i dont care much more than if some random guy that hadn't affected my life had died. It's always sad to see someone die, so I do have a bit of cpmpassion because he was a religious icon for many people. Now thats it but I wish people and the news would just stop talking all the time about him cuz I dont really care that much his prayers probably havent helped me in anyway, so may he die in peace and he'll go to heaven and blablabla...

Being a non-religous person, I'd just like to state to all of you bible-thumpers out there, to chill the fuck out. I'm not talking about someone who practices their own beliefs in a way they feel they need to, or anyone of any particular religion. I'm talking about the people who feel the need to push their beliefs on me. If i thought the same way you did, i'd already be part of your same religion. So respect my beleifs and stop feeling superior to them and feeling that you must "save me from the devil" or convert me.

As far as i've experienced i have no reason to believe in any prominent religion. They are all too contradictory in their actions to what they state. Jihad, is byfar, the worst excuse for a war that i've ever heard. what happend to preaching tolerance and understanding. Understand that some people don't want to belive what you do!

And also, as far as religion goes, there is no proof of any of them. they are theories, the Theory of Religion, a belief system. not proven! there is no scientific basis for the majority of what the bible says. Religion was developed to explain natural occurences, like floods, droughts, or earthquakes. people didn't understand why these tthings were happening because they didn't have the scientific explination or knowledge of them.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs, but they are not entitled to their own facts. the data is the data!

So in short, believe what you want, practice what you want and i have no problem with that or with you. but when you push your beliefs on me, you've crossed the line.

I sorta feel sorry for the pope because of all the shit he had to go through, like when he had to stand on that balcony and give a blessing when he couldn't even talk... all he probably wanted to do was lie in bed and die.

Buddy, you have to look at all the things the pope is for.

Along with being against all forms of birth control, he is also for people being faitful and not having sex until marriage. If everyone followed this, AIDS would not spread.

But hey, you don't have to agree with everything the pope believed in. I don't. But you have to respect him as he stood up for God's message and never waivered from his beliefs. He also had an incredible political impact.

He was one of the most loved and influential people of our time.
