Powerful pictures

There is a photo of US soldiers lifting a flag draped body into an armoured vehical in Iraq. It was really moving and was on Times 100 pictures of the century or something. My photography teacher showed us but i cant find it any where

the first one is amazing. I've never seen thatas for the second one. it pisses me off.you know that the dude who took this photo took more than 20 min to set up his camera to take it? ridiculous, he left and didn't help the girl. fuckin fag

This shocking photo depicts a starving Sudanese child being stalked by a patient vulture. It is a horrific picture that gave people a true look at the dire condition in Sub-Saharan Africa. Kevin Carter, who took the photo, won a Pulitzer Prize for this work. Kevin then came under a lot of scrutiny for spending over 20 minutes setting up the photo instead of helping the child. Three months after taking the photo, he committed suicide.

Searched tineye on the photo to find a little of the backstory. Also, real original photo's these last ones, they're totally not listed on a site or anything...

what really makes me mad is people who say that its the largest tragety and they dont do shit to help. they dont go there or donate or anything.

cant be bothered to look it up right now, but you all know it

the picture of the full earth, taken by apollo 17. Any picture of the earth from space (other than low earth orbit, so basically all the moon flights) are completely mind boggling. Next time you look at one of the pictures, think about how in that 1 picture, is every single thing we know. Every creature on the planet (save for the 3 astronauts) is on that sphere, as is everything we have ever done in the past.

it's crazy to think of how the earth seems like a giant place until you see a picture of the whole thing.

this.

When you look at all the bitch ass drama thats going on, and all the thought provoking pictures.
then... you look at this one, it makes all that shit irrelevant and the fact that we are so tiny, we are so insignificant, it blows my mind.

it's actually about land claims/wanted a golf course to be built on their land. then they flipped shit and killed a police officer.

The inauguration of the first black(ish) president is absolutely powerful, come on it's not about the politics per se but rather the historical significance. I doubt George Washington imagined that 40 some odd prez's later a black man would be steering the ship.

is it lame that that's exactly how i felt about disney's camera crew who followed a polar bear during their filming of earth, to watch it starve to death after it's long unsuccessful search for food?

Like I said....it's purely significant because someone other than a white male was actually elected to the most powerful position on the planet by a largely white electorate.
I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, because, though I'm thus far underwhelmed by his body of work, I think this photo and what it represents is very powerful. Not looking for a political debate or anything.

WOOOOAAAHHHH That's my desktop picture and my iPod desktop picture too. This is my favorite photo ever, I love it. I don't know why, but it inspires me so much! I'm glad you post it :)

george bush was always in the spotlight! and a lot of people like obama, so obviously he's going to get a lot of publicity and positive publicity as well.

yeah i watched a show on discovery about the behind the scenes of planet earth. they were in this cove watching a baby sea lion frolic about, and it was like splashing the film crew and trying to play with them. it was super cute. then this killer whale creeped in and started following it and they had to keep restrain themselves from interfering and the whale eventually ate the sea lion. one of the camera guys got really choked up lol

That has a certain logic.
This may come off as sappy or overly-sentimental, but I feel like this photo could really be especially powerful to a young black or brown kid, say in a generation or so.
This country is pretty much built on the rhetoric that "you can be whatever you want to be", which of course anyone other than a highly educated, gifted, affluent, attractive white male knows is certainly not true. This photo is tangible proof for a black kid that the sky's the limit, whereas prior to this, no black kids had much of a reason to think that they could be president. It represents a steady progress towards equality amongst the races (an entirely imaginary and arbitrary human construct, by the way...an example of which you alluded to when you mentioned his bi-raciality being regarded simply as being black).
