you're acting like a fucking highschooler right now... and i can give two shits about respect from some putz that is from fucking new york that thinks he knows what he's talking about because hes a mod for a website that is predominately ran by 12 year olds.

i had no previous agenda, but merely was trying to clear up a falsification produced by one of said 12 year olds, and let others that arent from this area know that Alta is in fact on public land.

my statements about the leasing and tax issue is clearly that. I dont think that it is fair for everyone in the state of Utah to be paying taxes on park land that only some can use.

 
Just bringing this post back up to prove that noone put words into his mouth. Clearly he made an analogy that leasing the land is just like leasing a car.

If you are going to make statements that someone should not talk unless they know what they are talking about, I would suggest that person heed their own advice.

Because it's public land that's only leased, we should all be allowed to take saucers up the lifts and slide down on those because it's our damn land!
 
Dude which part about this not being a public land issue but a private lifts, being built maintained and staffed by a private company are you not understanding?

Altas ban on snowboarding is ridiculous and completely unjustified.

The Levitation project is the most dedicated group of soul riders i've ever come across. They don't hate on skiing, they actually embrace it, and endorse it, They don't care how you get down the mountain, just that you do it because you love it.

Levitation works hard to keep their company green and our winters white. In my opinion, the Winter industry needs more people that actually call out bullshit like chinese outsourcing and mass pollution in the production of the tools all skiers and snowboarders use

If anyone's sarcasm meter is broken today, ^ that measured at 97 units of irony, and the above quote comes from none other than Hitler...yes, Alta is privately owned and can refuse service etc... but why would they? If they want to pretend that its an issue of limited lift capacity/ skiable area, limit total ticket sales/day or something- don't ban an arbitrary group of people- (no boarders is as arbitrary as saying "today is Thursday, anyone wearing the color magenta may not ski today"). I don't know if its purely imagined, but I always get a vibe from a resort- regardless of terrain/price/conditions- Alta has sick terrain, the legendary lake effect pow, but I did notice a sense of elitism when there- you'll find bad apples at any mountain though.

The point is that if they want to close the lifts they own and the land they maintain to boarders, they can. You may see it as ridiculous; that's your opinion. In their opinion it's not ridiculous. And, because it's their opinion, it is indeed justified by that opinion as they are the ones who manage it.

As for the defense of Levitation - why would they care so much about resort riding if they are so core? Playing devil's advocate there BTW. They didn't make the Alta is for Racists video anyways, if you hadn't figured that out.

^I dont understand why youre so heated over this. You can snowboard all you want at Alta, just cant get on a lift with a snowboard strapped to your feet. ive seen dozens of them shredding Alta's world class groomers(ha), considering thats all they are really going to get too without having to bottle neck (or posthole) the shit out of mostly up hill traverses. Alta Ski Lifts Co. doesnt need snowboarders to buy lift tickets to stay i business, so why change what good thing they have going and put the business in jeopardy? alta would honestly suck if it was packed with a bunch of joey knuckledraggers, the beaters there are already enough believe me

thing is, im not heated at all.. i mean i obviously have my opinion on the matter, but in the end i agree with what smuggs said pages back. it really has nothing to do with all of these arguments, it has to do with the fact that alta makes plenty of money doing what theyve been doing, so why change it now.

Im allowed to think that it's stupid, and i would love to one day see it change, but it really doesnt affect me either way, I just think the typical reasons that people give for the matter are lame.

Whoever made that video needs to go fuck themselves. There isn't even a hint of racism. It just seems that snowboarders are shitty because they're not as cool as they thought they were. I'm not saying it's fair or justified that they're not allowed in, it's a calculated business decision. These people are all about making money so why wouldn't do what ''They believe is best'
To me it sounds like the exact same thing that skiers went through when the park was only for snowboarders. Stop bitching and moaning over it and find something productive to do.

Yes, and it is done all the time. From a legal standpoint too, the rider should be in the clear if they stayed on natural terrain and natural snow. Alta's rights begin at the services they provide: the lifts, lodges, grooming, snowmaking, trail cutting, etc... The mountain itself is public land.
 
^yes, boarders come over from snowbird all the time, you just cant get on a lift with a snowboard, although i have witness a few exceptions
 
Alta doesn't allow uphill traffic but snowboarder are free to come over from cathrines pass, twin lakes pass.hell you could skin over from american fork. Beats me why anyone would expend that kind of energy. They also allow snowboarders to pay ride their cat up Grizzly to ski S facing Michigian Shiity. They do occasionally allow boarders on the lift for avvy classes.

Oh and Alf Engen had more soul in his pinkie than the entire levitation project crew and created a real cultural movement not selling stickers and swag to gulliable wanna be's

 
nothing wanna be about it man, they want everyone to be able to enjoy the same terrain, if you follow them youd see there not doing it so they can make millions, tons of their riders are already heavily sponsored and are extremely influential on the sport of snowboarding. There shops been empty for months, there coming out with the new line in a few days and for the first week, %100 of the money made is donated to help Japan dude.

Sit there and tell me alta would be willing to donate there entire opening weeks profits.

 
The video is a joke, they're not saying that Alta is actually racist, they're just saying that its like racism in that one group of people are not being allowed to do what they want.

We all know that snowboarders switching to skiing to try Alta is not the same thing as riding it, just as if you had to switch to a snowboard to try a mountain.

We all know snowboarders can ride the other mountains in the area but its clearly not the same thing or else why would anyone ever go to Alta if they could just ride other mountains.

At every other mountain in the world, snowboarders make the same traverses and ride the same slopes and chutes that skiers do, its complete bullshit that they wouldn't be able to hike or traverse the mountain when snowboarders do it at every other mountain.

I also can't imagine that if Alta opened up for snowboarders they wouldn't make a ton of money. So many families don't ride their because they have kids that snowboard. Also think of all the boarders who would travel their to try it because it had never been open before. Its clearly a tradition-old people who hate snowboarders-not a business decision.
 
quail man, alta sells nearly every chair full nearly every day of the high winter. why do they need to bother with snowboarders.

infact now im pissed at burton for not making any ski equiptment. how the fuck do they hold themselves so high and mighty and desciminate against a group of people for not making products that i want. i dont fucking believe it, they could make so much more money if they made skis too!
