Im looking for some powder skis and due to the vast choice out there I havent a clue which ones to get. Im not really a great powder skier but im in the mountains for the whole of next season and am wanting to get better. Ive already got some chronics for the park and some atomics for piste crusing. Overall im a pretty good skier and Im wanting to spend under $500, so what do you guys recomend?

If you're willing to spend $50 more, I'd recommend the Moment Rubys. Super light skis, great for powder, and like all Moment skis, kill in the park. Useful for that one park one you've been dying for at the end of a pow day.

You could also look at the Armada ARG's (I think, or ARV, i dont rememebr which is which)

arg's are like 900, they're the straight up pow ski. arvs's are like 90 underfoot so more of an all around ski. only like 600 i think.

if i were you i'd think of the scratch brigade, its supposed to be killer next year.

if your looking to do straight up charging, id recommend some ANT type ski. if you love to have fun and ski lots of pow, I couldnt be happier on my sir francis bacons. i skied the 07/08 bacons all last winter and am in love with the ski. such a fun flex, can still ski groomers, trees, everything, and is epic in the pow. stiff enough to handle fast speeds, but soft enough for jibbing natural features. id recommend it.

Oh right.

Have a look at the Moment Ruby though, it's 110/112 underfoot, available in 180/188.

It's still got sidecut, people do ride the Ruby as their everyday ski. It kills in the park too, as I mentioned above. If you want a rockered Ruby, email them, they might be able to hook you up with a Ruby which is rockered 1.5inch at the tip/1 inch at the tail. Really light.

yea i got a pair around jan/feb and had soo much fun skiing. went to vail for a week and they were so sick, even just cruisin groomers was fun. trees were sick. pow was unreal. skiing switch on those things is soo freakin fun.

Hey!! Iggyskier recommended Moment skis.

You see, it's a good choice. Only problem is this guys price range... which is $500. Closest thing to that Moment have got for pow is the Ruby (110 waist). Tahoe is there but its only 96 waist.

Comi's a good ski, but it is a little pricier, above his price range, but would definitely be a good choice

Forgot to mention, if you want pow-only skis, check out www.praxisskis.com

May be a little pricy, but hardcore skis for sure.

Moments are handmade too, aspen core. Seriously, consider the Ruby's.

Powder skis are usually like $600+ unless you go with some last year's skis which could be a lot cheaper. I'd go with a VCT, (my favorite last year) for a great pow ski 104 under foot, ARV 90 under foot, JP vs Julian more like $625, check it out we got some great POW skis from last year-CHEAP!!!

Moment Rubys - $550 - 110/112mm underfoot, 180/188 lengths.

It's probably the most versatile of all Moment skis, along with the Tahoes. Although its wide, a few people do ski it as their everyday ski. It's still got sidecut enough for on-piste, and kills in the park. Just around your price range.

Moment Comis - $600 - 136mm underfoot, 186 length

Pure powder ski. Commands in the pow, crud, any deep stuff.

Moment M1 - $625 - 105mm underfoot, 196 length.

More of a charging ski, for people who like long, straight turns.

What do you guys think about either last seasons seths or maddens. Or even the Lib Tech NAS Mt Bakers?? Maybe getting a more versitile ski wouldnt hurt but would still rip in the powder??

yeah, I know, I kick ass.

In all seriousness, if you have any questions, shoot me a PM. I can probably say something about most of the skis you are considering. That thread has a lot of info in it, not just about specific skis, but reverse sidecut, construction, etc.

Moment is making some great skis. I would seriously consider trying to find the extra $100 and getting the comis.

Ruby's are pretty sick too.

but yeah, I would search a bit and figure out if you have any questions, you can always shoot me a PM or post it up here.
