Powder Mountain, Utah to be the biggest ski resort in North America

I just read the paper and they well be making the final decision in December. If Powder Mountain has their way, they will get 3 hotels, a 40,000 sq. ft. rec center, 2 18 hole golf courses, 3 lodges, and expanding on their skiable acreage and more that i cant remember. But how insane is that? Those of you that live in Utah you know what i'm talking about. Little ol' Powder becoming the biggest resort? It sounds ridiculous but its true. It depends on how it would effect the community, etc.

I almost cant believe it. This would be huge! AH!

I am forwarding you what i saw in the paper. Thats all. I doubt it will happen because whistler is HUGE. but i've been wrong before.

Don't know if it's going to be the biggest. Also I'm pretty sure Whistler and Revelstoke have more vert.

the important thing is how much vert it'll have, golf courses and hotels wont make the skiing better. but that's sweet that they're expanding the terrain.

that sucks, powder mountain is awesome the way it is. Out in the middle of nowhere and seems old and undeveloped.

there is a ski area in montana west of hamilton that has been proposed off and on for the last 10-15 years that would have more acreage and vertical drop than whistler if it ever gets approved

I hope that place doesn't get approved. It wouldn't be a ski area at all, it would just be another ritzy resort, which is not what we need around here. Plus there's some sweet backcountry around there.

yes. you are familiar with what i am talking about? there would definately not be enough locals to support it. it would need tons of tourists to be succesful.

not tryin to score points or anything but if u want "big" vert or acreage-wise, nothing in north america comes close to about 47 places in europe. thats all.

i've been in europe many times (family) but i've still never skiied there yet, i'll make sure to bring my skis next time I go. only problem is we usually go over the summer >

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE little powder mountain.....:( i mean ya that is crazy huge for them but i love the no lines and everything about powder mountain

Hate to burst your bubble, but in 5-10 years, Revelstoke will piss on Whistlers head as far as size, vert, and powder. Whistler will still have more gnarly terrain tho..

Technically Revelstoke will have more acreage this season because they bought out the local heli-ski company and offer 500,000 acres of terrain....which is just ridiculous!!!!

this thread is kind of funny because i JUST finished watching Out Cold....

"Don't go changing Powder Mountain!"

if anyone has been to Big Sky Moonlight Basin they know thats the biggest in the states
like 99.9% sure that whistler is bigger although i could of sworn wen i read something on it that it said biggest in norht america

Go to Vail, Lone Peak has deceiving numbers. All of the tram terrain is counted, you can ski all 5,000 of Vail's acres.

Revelstoke is getting more skiiable terrain I think, but because of it's lack of accessibility (i.e. Airports, etc), I think Whistler will stay up there for another few years. Revelstoke is looking close though

Well when you think about it, ideally Whistler is an hour and a half

from Vancouver? 2 - 3 with stops or without gunnin dat shit *Correct me

if im wrong ive only been twice*

Well revelstoke is MAX 3 hours away from Kelowna, and kelowna is

upgrading their airport for next winter to accommodate airliners of ALL

sizes, and Kelowna is a city of about 130k in the winter, it doubles in

the summer.

snowbasin?? that better not be true... thats my mountain. its already packed up the butt with those damn tour busses with people from only god knows where!
