Powder Day Jacket

Hey Newschoolers. I'm looking for a jacket that would be good on a powder day. I like the look of the SAGA On Deck but I don't know about the powder day aspect of it. I live in Tahoe and our powder is wet and fucking heavy. My usual warm day soft shell won't do it.

Any suggestions? What do you use for pow days?

+K for any legit responses.

Look into something from Flylow, specifically the quantum jacket. got mine on sale for $250 and its up there with trew in terms of build quality. Wore mine in a straight rainstorm the other day and it shrugged off water like nothing

Look for things that are at least 3L, has good water proofing ratings, and good reviews. My saga has always been extremely waterproof for me. I wouldn't recommend the on deck for where you are. It has insulation, but not as good waterproofing. The anomie is just a shell. But you will stay dry. Also look at trew, and Goretex stuff. That stuffs incredible.

Definitely get something that is 3l or gortex like said above. I had moments team 3l and it was great for pow days. All the above said are good choices. i still think you can pick up a moment team 3l for pretty cheap too maybe $150. I would go xxl if your looking for length my xl only had a 32" zipper but still awesome

Sounds like you want something baggy and full of 'steeze.' Since you want it to be for when the snow is deep, I would agree with other members and say look for 3-layer construction, but most importantly, look for features on the jacket like full seam taping (or welding..even better) and a DWR coating (most 3L jackets have this).

Lethal Descent makes one, but I don't have any experience with it. I have some stuff by Trew, and I really like it. Super waterproof and pretty nice looking overall. Very functional and technical.

You may also want to shy away from insulated jackets and get a hard shell or tech shell. For warmth, you can layer accordingly underneath.

I recommend Spyder, its waterproof, durable, and warm. However its not a tall fit and you would have to get 1-2 sizes up.

Most 3L fabrics will do though. I recommend Trew and any goretex products.

the new lethal descent eagle line looks like a great technical powder jacket. I have an LP series jacket from them and so far its done great. its a great company

I'll admit its not what most people would call "steezy".. but with the right loadout it looks pretty dope, and its shorter length allows for full-extension spread eagles! What more could you ask for?

I'm 5'9 and thats only a size medium, if you sized up you could get a more "steezy" fit, but I like clothes that fit for pow days, jackets down to your knees are no good when you're hiking
