Pow Skiing Help

I live in the east and ski mostly Mass and NY, so I almost never get to ski powder, but we've gotten a few dumps this year. I ski center mounted 155s with like an 80 waist so its not exactly easy, and the only way i can get my tips up is to lean back like im doin a tail manny. I feel like im working too hard to even enjoy it. Any tips to better my experience?

you want to put equal weight on both skis while maintaining an athletic stance. bend your knees so your shins are pressuring against your tongues. you want to have your weight in your heels and your butt though, think of putting weight on your heels but lifting your toes up. if you lean back you will not be able to turn. bounce in and out of your turns. when you first engage your turn, bend your knees and get low, coming out of your turn, stand up straighter and you will bounce out of it.

Thanks man. Hopefully we get a decent pow dump again this year so I can give it a go, and the way this winter is going I think there's a good shot. If global warming=pow i say keep burning coal

lean back and know you're thighs are gonna hurt until you have a few more pow days under your belt.

The width is less of a problem than the fact that your skis are center mounted.

You will want to bounce a bit, and ski with two feet. A two footed hop will get you going, then round off your turn, and go into another hop. Back in the day people used to hop to ski pow. Super fat skis have made that less necessary, but hopping still helps at the early stages. Another thing to remember is that speed is your friend, it will help you plane.

Enjoy it. Once you can handle it well you will love it.

people have skied powder long LONG before the advent of fat rockered skis, yea its tougher skiing on 80mm waist center mounted skis but its manageable

equal weight on both skis and try to stay super light and nimble. don't lean back or forward, just stay centered on your boots with natural pressure on your shins. just try to get the skis to come up out of the snow and plane off. fat skis help but we all used to ski pow on short narrow skis, it's more about technique

Just keep shredding fast I ski powder with a pair of line chronics just pop your skis up very once an awhile and center your weight not to far forward not to far far back

good advice in here.
in my experience its pretty hard to ski powder properly if your tips wont rise. ie. very difficult on centre mounted skis.
if its deep really try to keep your feet together as though you were skiing moguls. that makes your base pretty much as wide as a snowboard and you'll float. spring up to turn, pole plant and you'll be fine. oh, and i find a medium speed is best. not too slow but not so fast you cant stop in control.
