Pow Days

hard to say. there have been days when my mountain reported 2 inches, and ive skied knee deep snow. subtle variations in wind, water content, temperature can make a big difference. not to mention how much snow has fallen over the preceeding days. i thnk you just know when its a pow day

my mountain has said 3 inches and i was getting knee deep, but where they measure is a wind trap so all the snow blows away

i ski tahoe so in the early season when the snow is really heavy i would consider 3+ a pow day but later in the season it has to be a foot plus to count as a pow day(thats actually on the Mt not from the website)

when there is new snow and your having fun.......
but 3 = better than other things
6 = pow day
foo t= fuck yes
and thats all on the mountain, not what the site says

^i hope you arent talking about bogus basin

but i consider like 6-8 decent enough for me to hit the offtrail

uh when it snows at bogus we get like 3-9which is nice
seriously all these kids fucking bitch all day about bogey and if they lived out east and skied some shitty ass ice mound (no disrespect) then you would change your perspective

but for the foot plus days brundage frequents them
i went to brundage 12 times last season and 9 of them were pow daysonly one of them didnt have left over pow because it was spring and slushy

Here's my general scale.

0" is shit.

3" for a "fun, yet still not epic day"

9" for an "epic, but not orgasmic day"

15" for an "orgasmic day"

That being said, 3" days quickly become 15" days if you know where to go, lol.

20 CM is what I consider a "pow day". Any amount of new snow means a good fresh day but I find it isn't a "pow day" unless there are many areas with 20 or more centimeters of fresh snow. That's like 7ish inches for you american folks.

I'll say 6". But in North Idaho we do occasionally get hammered, and when that happens, my expectations are slightly higher -- it might be 9". When we've been under an inversion for one-and-a-half months, 3" is a powder day. On average, though, it's definitely 6".

upstate NY sooo like 3 inches or more hahaha.

but i don't really like to use the term "pow day"

Hey remember that one morning where you were talking outside my room about 25+ inches at big sky and somehow after going to bed at 3AM I woke up at 7 to slay that shit.... Thank God for friends that check the snow repots
