Here's something I'd like to make very clear to everyone who makes posts critical of the United States. As an American, I'm very proud of my country, and I always want it to do the right thing. To that end, I disagree with many, many things my country does. I think you'll find that many Americans (actually, probably about half of us), do the same.

Therefore, if you're going to insult my country, please attack or insult the people responsible, not ME as an American, because chances are I'll agree with you. But if you're going to make a point and then say, 'Man, America sucks' or 'Great country you got there, aye?' then I'm going to take it personally. I'm doing my best to help my nation find its way, as are many people I know, and to randomly insult us all for the way the country is now accomplishes nothing.

i think that america used to stand for liberty and progressive thinking, but the flourishing of the capitalist economy has changed that. we are materialistic, consume way too much, and need to realize we live in a world where our actions matter. as an american, i am sorry if i 'insulted' you, but we need to stop ignoring the truth. remember there is a difference between insult and constructive critisim.

dude, alot of what you guys have said has been true. but i dont really agree with kamakazi's opinion on how you shouldn't personally attack americans. all this political rhetoric and theory is just dandy, as we sit here at our fancy computers in our plush houses, living lives of comfort and privlage. nevermind the people who actually built the computer, living in rural china and india, working assembly lines for pennies on the hour so we can do exactly what we are doing now. thus i find it slightly ironic that we are all sitting around bashing capitalist corporations.

I also don't appreciate the people who immediately criticize any political comment on NS as 'armchair activism,' as some of us have been known to do, because you really don't know anything about the 'activism' or political involvement of the person making the post. Boards said that he doesn't agree with me because I'm not doing anything- how do you know that I'm not doing anything? Maybe I'm just sitting on my ass posting on NS... maybe I'm doing that, and voted for John Kerry; maybe I did both of those, and choose to live an an area where progressive politics dominate; maybe I donate my time to canvass for progressive organizations and ballot measures; maybe I've been on a street corner many a time with a sign in my hands. You really have no right to judge my political involvement.

I know plenty of people that voted for Bush that are very politicaly informed and more intellgent than the majority of you. I love how liberals associate voting for Bush with being stupid. To many people he obviously represents ideals that they believe in. Many people don't want our country moving in a socialistic direction. Critisizing someone soley by who they voted for is plain ignorant and furthermore is quite the opposite of the kind of ideals this country was founded on.

I think Bush could say what the coutnry stands for, but it would be opposite of his actual agenda. There are equal amounts of ignorant liberals and conservatives. I think that the uninformed conservatives are much more outspoken than the uninformed liberals though. Liberals who speak otu at LEAST have read a Moore book (as much as that is propaganda, he has points). It seems uninformed conservatives base arguments solely on religion and what their mommy and daddy told them. If you're an informed conservative, you know who you are. I am just pointing out what I observe, I know it is generalizing. And I am not saying I am overly informed.

The majority of Americans voted Bush and the governemnt into power, so blaming the American people for America's faults is right, because the American people voted. If you did not vote for Bush or do not support, don't take offense to the attacks on the nation and its people, you obviously don't support it. I am a Canadian and sometimes what we hear is wrong or misinterpreted or different to what it's actually like in the US, I would appreciate it if Americans didn't throw tantrums when we say something incorrect, but corrected us and provided a logical argument.
