Post your Rope-tow Stories Thread

I live in the PNW, so I have little access to rope tows. I've never used one before, but I'm sure that a lot of the Newschooler community has. What's it like?

Post your embarrassing, stupid or funny stories of you or your neighborhood Jerry on a rope-tow/ t-bar etc.

Not at a ski hill but there was this tubing hill we used to go to when I was a kid that used rope tows to transport people back up. However, they didn't have any system in place to cut the power if somebody didn't let go and the bullwheel was right on the ground and exposed. Anyways...I was at the bottom of the rope and some kid at the top didn't let go in time and got his hand ripped off. There was soooooo much blood. We never went back to that place and a quick google search shows that they closed shortly there after.

What to take away from this...

let go.

Daaaang man that's real haha how long ago was this?

I ski at waterville valley sometimes in northern NH and when I was younger Im not sure what really happened but I just remember almost being at the top and I fell off their rope tow and was dragged until I fell off and have to be dragged my my friends pole to the top.

My first time on a t bar i fell off 3 times in a row infront of a huge line so i just went up the whole way with it under my arms

Mont Du Lac- There was a Brother Ali concert so a ton of people showed up to shred and jam out to some good tunes. That rope is designed to handle about 15-20 people but I'd guess somewhere around 120 or so were on it. The rope started slipping on the wheels, the rope caught on fire from the friction, snapped, and a frayed/burnt end whipped some snowboarder in the face. After that any rope thinner than 2" in diameter sketches me out.

Not a rope tow, but on the public t bar on blackcomb last summer this little girl fell off and went flying off a 20 foot cliff beside it. Helicopter had to come and pick her up. It sucked cause you had to hike up the last little bit for the rest of the summer.

Who even let that many on? Surprising they got that many on if it only was meant for 15-20

Why would they even put a t-bar close to a cliff? They seem dangerous enough haha.

Broken rope at Master Shredder 2015... lol. About ten years ago Wild Mountain got their fast park rope, a little snowboarder kid dropped the rope right into the high backs of his bindings. As he carved to get off, the rope flipped him so he was hangin upside down. Stop gate didn't seem to work and the kid was hangin upside down at least 20 feet off he ground. I haven't seen anything like that since.

Oh man we used to WRECK kids on those puppies!! Sling shot, post scraper, ohh almost had it, you gotta be quicker than that!

I work at a small hill in Western NY where we have one rope tow. On a typical day between teaching lessons and lapping the few features we have on the hill I probably went up the rope 40-45 times a day. Needless to say by the end of our short season my forearms were shreaded... like noticeably larger then my biceps. It was kinda lame

This year at Hyland, probably the fastest rope tow anywhere, pull the ropen out really fast then back in, then back out and close line people. We got 5 people off at once. They were all dick snowboarders which made it funnier.

a funny thing to do is when someone skis up to the rope to get on you pull the rope away so they're just standing in the path trying to grab it, or you can always yank the rope out and cloths line them. Both can cause a pile up if it's a crowded day.

Haha gotta love it I never knew that was possible

Not trying to start beef but you guys really create your own problems by being dicks to the snowboarders and expecting them to respect you more after that. I honestly hope that the MNskiers realize that literally everybody not in Nybora actually hates them because of stuff like this. Just stop this shit, and the snowboarders will not be dicks back to you. Think Karma

Closing day at Trollhaugen last season I was blackout drunk and apparently tried riding up the tow rope without my skis on...did not make it very far. An attempt to piggy back ride my friend while she rode up the tow rope was also made, unsuccessfully.

At Hyland this year, I got on the rope behind a kid who didn't know how to ride it. He was slipping back towards me and was between my skis when I yelled at him to get off. As he tried stepping out of the rope lane, his ski got caught on mine and pulled one ski out while the other caught edge. I fell, the kid behind me fell, and pretty soon there was a 6 person pile up. The kid who started it all escaped unscathed. #gapers

This is the end all be all.

You're on fucking newschoolers. Why the fuck would you vent and call people out when you could just do it in person, of which a fetus has enough balls to do? Or you could just keep quiet. Quite literally, you're cancer. You go away for a bit, and then pop up uninvited and cause a whole load of bullshit. Why? Because you probably have nothing better to do. You are the pinnacle of embarrassment and ignorance.

You literally have no reason for anything that you say, it's actually pretty weird. Your actions mirror those of a deathly schizophrenic pre-pubescent boy. Quite honestly none of us on the team have anything to lose. That being said...

If you keep running your mouth, no one is going to be held accountable for whatever may ensue.

Even by you quoting this will prove my point, I'm sure you'll do it anyways. I think you need to find another hobby if you're going to ruin it for yourself and attempt to ruin it for others.

tl;dr

Stop cluttering gabber you ignorant prick

I don't have any problems but it sounds like you are trying to create one with me. I know who they were, and I was getting them back as a joke. I'm not asking for respect from anyone, not trying to impress anybody. I'm chill with them, they just did a dyke move by ripping up my coat.

I've watched some really funny stuff, and have plenty of stories to tell. 2016s biggest pile up was 10 or 11 people

Hillbilly Hills. I couldn't find anything on it aside from an address that was a few lots down.

I found it on google maps though. Someone must have tore down the old structures and built a house. The rope toe was along the treeline between the pond and the house.

That's a classic haha, at my resort we don't have props like these haha. Gapers just lean hardcore family zone and side jump

sometimes my hands start to get sore since the hill is pretty steep but it's all g

More T-Bar but here goes my story.

I decided it would be a good idea to take a lesson in the park when I was younger because I wanted to actually be able to do shit, so I signed up with "the legend," an instructor at Okemo. I already knew there was one thing I could not hit, and that was the T-bar that brought you up to the park instead of taking the lift. At the end of the day, "the legend" suggests we use it to get up there faster.

He goes up first and then me, and then a little 5 year old girl. I already knew I was gonna fuck up, thats just how the day was going for me. I get about half way up and of course I eat it as we go over a bump. I end up dragging the little girl down with me and we both go down. The instructor comes down and instead of admitting that I fell I actually reversed it and blamed the little girl for falling into me and forcing me to fall. I know it seems fucked up, probably because it is but hey, thats just how it is.

I learned that day that "the legend" should stick to his dreams of filming urban because he didn't tell me how to do anything, that I need to learn how to use the T-bar and that I'm probably a horrible person.

One time on a tbar in whistler i saw a snowboarder fall and grab on and get pulled the rest of the way up. the funny part was that his pants were falling off and by the time he was at the top he was mooning literally everyone, including like 13 year old me.

at mt. hood ski bowl they have a dinky little poma rope tow and when my friends and i were in middle school what everyone would do is ride up on this rope tow with their crush. so one night i happened to be skiing after school, i had to be in like sixth or seventh grade, when i see the dude i liked ski up. he asked me to ride up with him and i all but pissed myself. key detail: although i was fine in ski gear, i was a chubby ass little girl. 4'11 and around 130 lbs. to make a long story short, my weight was too much for him and I'm pretty sure i crushed his dick. after him screaming and falling to the ground of the tow, the operator had to stop the lift because he would not get out of the way, which had to have been at least five minutes. we haven't spoken since.

It's an ass pit. Over-crowded and too many gangs trying to throw hands. I watched a Vice documentary about it once, really glad I've never had to ski there.

One time I nearly clotheslined pattyeiks at hyland

/claim

Also who could forget the time they threatened to shut down the rope for the season if there weren't 10 foot spaces between people
