expand on this

I played trombone and sang in a ska band and played bass in a folk punk band. I honestly don’t want to look our bandcamp up but here’s some cringe pictures

One of the most diverse list of artists I've seen, you got rock, indie, jazz, soul, electronica from all over. And yet your top genre was hip-hop.

You do realize hip hop encompasses all of those genres, usually through samples. Hip hop isn’t just top billboard rap

Yeah, I know there is more to hip-hop than just rap, I just wouldn't say all of those genres I listed are encompassed by hip-hop, it certainly takes inspiration from many of them and vice versa. I mean jazz pre-dates hip-hop and many of the artists listed would never be called hip-hop artists. None of the top 5 artists are hip-hop artists so it's surprising that the top genre is hip-hop, I guess 2 of the top songs are but still.

Trying to draw the line on music genres is kind of ridiculous in general imo, the number of sub-genres tends to get so specific that you can end up getting lost in it all. It's good for categorization I guess, but just pigeonholes artists into a box that doesn't usually describe a lot of the music they produce.

I realize this is just me rambling about genres now, in the past I was pretty interested in the history of modern music genres, especially their initial formation.
