Post Whats on your Skmind

The focus on concessions is what got us into this mess. Ikon skiers are way more likely to spend on concessions than passholders so Snowbird focuses on bringing them in.

I currently buy a full ikon pass and a Snowbird pass because LCC gets so crowded that i can't reliably only ski there. I'd much rather give all of that money to Snowbird and only ski my home mountain, but it only makes sense if they kick out the ikon shitters

Terrain openings are weird. They'll keep mineral closed much of the week, but also only ever open Pipeline on weekdays

The terrain is so sick but doubling their base pass would hurt. I bitched out of Alta-Bird this year because it cost so much and couldn't justify it. What if they doubled their lunch price lmao?

Don't go into Mineral on a rope drop friday (only opens on a weekend, cause you know, marketing) or you won't be out for two hours. Which is one seriously underrated things about Alta. Terrain will open on weekdays way more often than weekends, I'm not sure if its actually patrol work related, or if management chooses to give back to locals.

Just don't take it out on Snowbird Patrol and Alta Patrol please. Those people seriously put their lives on the line to keep people skiing some of the most insane terrain ever. I fuckin used to hate seeing people rip into Patrollers at the Gadzoom line before 8:30 because of powder panic vibes.

I agree with you in principle but ikon holders don't really make the big sky experience worse like other mountains and the town of Big Sky really needs the tourism, they have been struggling the last couple years.

big sky is recently becoming a destination for the affluent of buffalo. it’s kinda funny hearing kids i row with or ski with talk about it like it’s this hidden gem. Especially since my mom grew up skiing out of her parents condo there in the 80s and 90s lol

I always find a parking spot and I go up whenever I want to. Just gotta get creative. Haven't seen lines yet at all like year 1 of ikon though

This is so true, on a major day with all road parking open snowbird can eat up 1/3 of the Wasatch. For every 10 cars that go up, 3 go to alta. The snake at 6:45 only exists because snowbird is ffa. Back in the day the 6:45 snake was employees waiting to go up on a canyon closure day. They should just get off the Base ikon like alta, but $$

Lift lines are almost never a problem

I have no idea how you're finding parking though. When the highway parking is closed, the lots really aren't that big.

Don't ever fuckin duck a rope too by the way.

Ofc not, we are not beaters. Also story for you. Some guy last week got cliffed out at alta and tipped my patrol buddy $60 for getting him out lmao

big sky is a corporate entity of boyne. doubt they go. a basin being the sole resort under their ownership gives them a lot of freedom. one thing i thought was hilarious was when a basin left their agreement with the epic pass saying they wanted to be less corporate and then joined the ikon pass which requires resorts to post ads for ikon lol. the top comment was “this feels so much less corporate” lol

Yeah, epic seems to be more corporate, but Ikon is just the same, but hides behind a “rad” front with there ads. I see just the same if not more at ikon vs epic resorts

That is fair, the town feels pretty barren as a ski town even in winter. I think summer time I’ve seen more people there. The only thing I can knock big sky for is the paid tram lifts.

That’s the same conclusion I’ve come to.

I believe it. Going up Supreme and seeing the mess of people who shouldn’t have been doing Supreme bowl was concerning. One guy was yelling to his friends he led down there that he doesn’t know where the cliffs are.

was trying rodeo 5 dub japan, had to bring it to 7 since i couldn't keep the rodeo at 5. once im on bigger jumps should come around much easier. maxed out the landing on the jumps at app tonight trying them

dub japan feels really good. I learned it with flat 3s maybe you need to me more patient and go for the grab later, trying to get it right away might be making you spin.

That’s 100% it

works for me, rodeo 7s are 100x sicker than rodeo 5s anyway

Yeah if you want to 5 you need to finish extending before you go for the grab. That axis looks sick though and would work on a bigger jump

That’s what I’ve been thinking, once I’m back in Bozeman it should come pretty quick. Was really having to grab quick on that jump because of its size

I love Southington man, 3inches of snow and they're still trying to build cool shit (and succeeding). MTS park crew is a different breed

Oh I thought it was in summit, probably won't be in Colorado Springs anytime soon lol

AHHHHH It's finally snowing in Colorado and I'm so stoked!!! I hope you guys are stoking too! Here a little footy from Mary Jane yesterday:

Yaaa all this fresh, super dry snow really is where it's at. Me and my friend had a discussion today that the dude who died in yesterday's Palisades avalanche really was probably having one of the most euphoric moments of his life before it slid. If it was quick, I couldn't ask for a better way to go out, personally (hopefully at an older age like that guy)

I would be really pissed if I died powder skiing, especially in bounds. That shit sounds so lame.

This situation definitely sucks, I was just trying to see a silver lining. I'd rather die doing what I love at the end of my normal healthy lifespan than be some confused old geezer who can't do anything anymore and die in my sleep. Not saying that's what he wanted, either. Just that he probably was experiencing one of the best feelings there is in his last morning of his life.
