Post Whats on your Skmind

Moved west for college got 16 days in before break. Not bad considering the most I ever got was 10 before now. Going back home to the south for a month now

Year 10 skiing park still don't know the difference between switch cork and switch rodeo and don't plan on learning either, also flatspins are a myth, fakest trick ever

Unnatty switch blender alley oop carve trailing safety 360 is far too long a name for any trick

Flat spins aren’t a myth, very few people can actually do one outside the pipe. Flat 3’s are a myth, that’s a wack flip. Nothing flat about your feeling going above your head.

I love the current comp scene, watching all these guys like Mac, ahall, and hunter podium is super dope, especially after their films all drop like a couple weeks ago. Makes it actually fun to root for them

thats what im sayin. school news had a take that fis is forcing skiers to really dial in on a single discipline and skiers are divided into comp jock, street skier, backcountry, etc. and thats just not the case

to be fair it did seem to being going that way, but the universe has corrected that. For a little bit it seem like Henrick was the only guy still releasing full segments while competing.

I can do real flat 3s

Yeah it's cool that it's gone back to being that way. Back in the day everyone winning comps (Wallisch, Henrik, Thall, Dumont, even Jon Olsson and Bobby Brown) would drop video parts with street, backcountry, and park shoots. Felt like that was missing in the late 2010s

Because he was... for a few years at least. The current comp generation is so hungry and they're all super fuckin dope, even Edjoy filmed a street part, Colby laid hammers in the backcountry, this generation is so fucking different than the previous ones in the best possible way.

Even the street dudes like Buldoz spend their summers skiing on grass, like these kids want it, and im here for it lol

i feel as though japan grabs are not conducive for a flat 360. the motion for that grab is really coming from the back, as if you're setting for a rodeo, and that probably leads to most flat spins just being backflips. imo a much better grab would be a high saf (like slowbro's vid) or a crit grab, these come around from the side and help to set that flat axis. but also i've never done a flat three so i have no idea.

I've skied about a quarter of my days so far with a tee shirt and this is in the rocky mountains. Kinda fucked up

how do you put your feet in ski boots

Isn't it "flat" because your head never goes below your hips?

No Japan is actually really easy for a flat 3, you reach for them from the side. Mute also works pretty well, but critical is tough because you have to lean pretty far into the spin to get it so it usually takes you to 5

Oh god the urge to blast a slow switch butter 180 over a knoll at work under the liftline in uniform is strong but I want to keep my job

Im also of the opinion that my bosses should use some of the patrol budget to purchase avy rescue equipment so that us patrollers can not only stay fresh with rescue skillz but also not have to use our own shovels to go dig-out pads and towers :)

Booked a last minute trip for New Year’s weekend in the MWV; do I stick to Wildcat, ski on two or three trails and a mini park at Cranmore, ski on two trails at Attitash or just drive to Sunday River?

These new warm winters are weak.

the following reviews assume there is snow on the mountain (which there won't be (weak)):

cranmore is kewl but wouldn't go on a trip to ski it

attitash is the only ski area in nh i haven't skied :(

cannon is super sick, dope hidden glades (i mean hidden), used to have a good park, mittersill (best in nh IMO)

wildcat is also super sick and gnarly (2nd best in nh but i could concede to #1)

bretton woods has lots of chill groomer and kewl glades

waterville valley is pretty kewl and has a good park, right?

loon has a good park but it's probably busier than cannon

tf is sunday river?

TLDR: SKI KING PINE!!!

how much avy terrain ya got over there?? our patrol huts are stacked with many shared avy packs. i think we use scott bags. for sure battery/fan air bags as opposed to the air canisters. we supply beacons as well but most bring their own. im unsure on the shovels but i imagine they are provided by the resort as well. in general, patrol is a vital part to the operation. as far as non-revenue generating departments go, they seem to get the most resources. they certainly earn it too.

idk why but I feel it needs to be written as switch carving alley oop blender 3 with trailing safety.

This trick would be fun as hell though, nothing better than blender alley oop

None, but drifts. But I personally always stay suspect and keep my gear in my truck because CO roads are gnarly and I've skied with a beacon regularly in-bounds at some places in UT during really-deep days.

I really want to get Beacon training a thing going at work when we're bored because why not? We live in the mountains and want to play in the mountains, and everyone who does should have beacon-shovel-probe. Keep those fuckers strapped.

I've also heard things about Patrol Crews that throw bombs and mitigate avy terrain at bigger resorts having access to Government funds because rescue gear is technically considered under OHSA or something. It should be an industry standard imo

Sunday River just got flooded to shit, the bridge to even get near their property has a massive hole in it, trees down, so much gone, God knows when it'll be back open. Cranmore I've never really been a fan of, it's where I learned to ski but man it is a pretty lackluster mountain for the MASSIVE crowd it typically gets. Loon is fantastic right now, I've been going there in terms of NH mountains, Wildcat is also a good pick if you can't hit up Loon. I like Gunstock in Gilford, but it's not on Ikon or Epic if that's what you're looking for.

Forgive me Lord for I have sinned. Years ago I said some things about candide's position in skiing on here. That was a younger, foolish me.

4-6 weeks is a bit too early. I’ve never broken a humerus but a few other bones. Most clean fractures no surgery heal in 6-8 weeks in my experience. The issue with the humerus is if you fall on it again while it hasn’t healed fully it’s really not going to be good. Did you break it skiing?

Can you lift your wrist? If not the fracture severed the nerves to your lower arm and recovery is much longer. I broke my humerus Feb 2022, had surgery March 2022 and was back on skis at BigSnow that July but couldn’t hold a pole in my left hand until December.

Smoking can hinder bone healing with nicotine having worse outcomes than weed.

I can lift my wrist. Just got told the earliest I can be cleared is 4 month so time to kill myself lmao

I used to feel the same way when I would get injured when I was closer to your age. I can assure you that you’ll find there is more to life than skiing

You may not be out for the whole season if you get surgery soon, But what’s more important than rushing back to skiing is making sure you get your arm as close to back to normal as you can, that will affect you for the rest of your life

I’ve been chronically injured for like 3 years now, I know how ya feel

For sw5 do you just think about it as sw1 + 360?

you can ride off the lip and do almost nothing for a switch one just from looking over the shoulder. no wind up or anything. so yeah sw 3+1
