Post if you've broken your brakes

So Sunday, my great day was cut short by my brake... braking. I was fucking pissed, a small piece of the plastic cover just popped off, which then proceeded to ruin the entire thing. I'm fed up with brakes. I'm pissed at how a new wide brake will cost $40, while most shops will fit you regulars for free. Fat skis are commonly used out there, and wide brakes shouldnt be 'specialty items', and def shouldn't cost that much.

I'm also really just frustrated with all of the binding companies. I've heard endless stories of people who run through set upon set of brakes each season, and also heard horror stories of a failed brake ripping out a heelpiece, destroying the ski, and even worse, causing season-ending injuries. Landing and riding switch is large part of what we do, and what twin tips were designed to do. Its about time a company stepped it up and made a brake system that works accordingly. So this is a shoutout and a call to action - if you've ever had your brake end your day (or worse), post here.

I broke mine a couple weeks ago and never fixed it, I just hope it flips over when it pops off or get a friend to chase after it when I fall. I almost lost it once but other then that its worked out pretty good

i broke one brake so i only have one on one of my skis... it happens. just get some regular brakes if you can get them for free then bend them yourself.

i've broken one brake on my p10's on my crichtons.

both brakes on my scratch BC's, which i later on got replaced. Howevr, just now i notised that one of the brakes is falling apart again.... pissing me off very very much.

I bought a brand new pair of Look PX 12 Ti and i have gone through 4 brakes already this season. 3 were replaced for free and one I got charged 10 bucks for. It pisses me off the most that i have to stop skiing and go to a shop at the base of the mountain to get them replaced wasting a good half hour. Hopefully someone in the industry will pick it up.

I used to break the fuck out of my breaks on my park skis. But then, i discovered the gift from god, known as race stock bindings. Now they just bend instead of braking.

Oh, I'd gladly bend mine, but my skis are a little wide for that, and I'd probably end up snapping them. I'm going to get some regulars and try welding them a little wider this week as an experiment.

that's just luck. if anything I've seen way more fks with broken brakes than other look/rossis. cuz they bend so easy that eventually too much bending makes them break.

I have leashes, and I'm honestly scared to use them. I usually just tuck them loosely into my pant gaiter after attaching them around the binding. If I ever lost a ski with them wrapped around my leg, I just know that having that ski bouncing and being tethered to my leg while I tumble would end up bad.

yeah, i could NEVER ski with a leash. just having a ski pop off is scary enough, especially when its bouncing all around you or when you land on it.

maybe if the leash was like 6 feet long...

i had a brake end one of my days too...it sucked i ended up riding with only one leg on that ski.

it would be more appropriate to tell you how many days i have gone without breaking a break. it would be a much smaller number than the times its happened. i agree 100%

Hhahahah wow.

The exact same thing happened to me on sunday, my ski was loose and i dind't bother changing it, and i was doing a fatty 1, and then it poped off and ripped out the break.  Then my ski wouldn't fit at all cuz the break let my boot drop too low and shit got fucked. it sucked.

Well, two years of skiing park with fks', i haven't broken one break, and in one season i broke like 4-5 breaks on my park skis.

i had some older salomon bindings that i broke one brake clean off and then about 2 hours later the other one broke too and was basically dangling on there.

pm alkyy about brake horror stories poor kid... but its true and it high time binding companys get thier shit sraight and make some good skis

I fell ona 5 and my ski fell of right on the lip, I landed right on the rake and bent it in so far it can't be fixed so I spent the rest of the season skiing on a ski that wouldnt stop if it fell off

bent, not broken, but so bent that they no longer go down

skis run away, i chase them, i fall, i realize both of my skis are very far away from me...

Fuck the leash, they're a pain in the ass to hike with, as mentioned, and I dont want to be tethered to something heavy and sharp when I'm falling. I shell out about half of what my skis cost on good bindings, and I'm sick of spending time and money at the shop getting this shit fixed. Its really time that a company makes a binding that doesnt do this.

True, everytime I've taken bad spills the brake has just been bent and its easy to bend it back into place.

dude, i did this today at mammoth. it's a bummer. but a little elbowgrease and a hacksaw later, i'm good as gold. but definately, a company should make a break that doesn't screw up when you land switch.

I broke my entire ski...
