This thread is just as the title describes. I'll be contributing a lot I think. Post a link to a video of 'early' Newschool Skiing, give peeps a short description, why its important, and sure, why you think its significant.

TO START:

Possibly the greatest segment of all time. JF Cusson (the magic mullet) from PBP's Propaganda. If you dont know this man, you should. One of the original members of the Salomon team, this guy was responsible for most of the tricks and grabs you see today. While his trick book was nearly endless, his backflips earned him many many covershots. JF was and always will be at the heart of newschool skiing.

Jon Olsson - Propaganda

Jon's part in Propaganda also blew my socks off. That pipe run was legendary for its time, and the Head MAD TRIX skis... good lord, those are still sexy as hell in a cork 9. Saying Jon was into D-spins would be an understatement. Besides his usual perfection with every trick, grab and landing, notice the switch riding - Jon was among the first to really get switch tricks down. And his switch misty 9 was as massive back then as it is today.

Other faves...

Ski Movie 2 Trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8UPXKxmgxo

Believe it or not, Matchstick actually made original movies back in the day. This could be my favorite trailer of all-time actually. Released the same year as Propaganda, you'll see a lot of faces still at it, and a lot that have faded away. This was also when sleds had a segment in movies... to be honest, I kinda miss them. Also, SAUCERBOY.

SCANDALOUS! trailer:

I have to add this. Levin made this movie the same year as Propaganda. While a notably more 'underground' movie, the trailer is up there with SM2's as my possible top favorite. The song is The Crab Louse by Lords of Acid, because I know someone will want it. Also, watch out for slide-on style rails and Tanners switch rodeo 7 near the end. That trick was winning every single comp back then.

Crash Segment - Tee Time

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94MGt9k_BEI

This was from a VHS copy, so sorry about the quality. This movie was made by Kris Ostness way back when, I'm dont even remember the year (maybe same year as TGR's Los Alamos?). However, I think you'll recognize some of the locations. Going big has been happening for a while. Also featured in this video is the elusive Leviathan gap - watch some dude try a double back over it. The rest of the video I have is even more washed out, and I have no idea where I could even track down a VHS copy. I'd love for someone to rip it and post it tho... please?

I guess so. Also, correction on the one just posted - Tee Time was the same year as TGR's Further, eg, Ski Movie 1. Candide's shot over Chads proves this.

"I dont remember that TGR movie you talked about, and Candide hit Chads?"

Oh young ones, do watch:

Jibbing Segments from TGR's Further:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jak01o2MbQI

Where to go - Tanner doing some of his SICK iron cross d-spins. JF pulling out some major KANGS. His 1080 at the gravity games. Jon's D-spin 9, even then just sicknasty. The Three Phils messing around. Where the hell did Dion go? Then Candide... good lord. Yes, he did Chads. Yes, he did wreck into the side three times, then overshot it further than I've ever heard someone go, at least 150. And then he stomped a D-spin 7 over it. Candide was always been a god, yes. Check out the footage of the early Collins brothers as well.

ha first 3 were sooo fucking ill. I wanna go out ad buy propaganda now. Scandalous wasn't really to my liking though, skiing was good but I didn't like the way it was put together.

Rowen, any chance you can post JP Auclair's segment from Propaganda. It's so sick! Bombshell rocks, the loop, bus stop jibs, GT flips, big lines, mute grabs! I don't know where any of my old ski DVDs or VHSs are.

STICKY STICKY STICKY STICKY STICKY STICKY STICKY STICKY STICKY STICKY STICKY STICKY STICKY STICKY STICKY STICKY

These clips bring back memories...we've come so far, but I love that old school shit. Propaganda kills it.

yay basically he fucked up his ACL badly, worse than just any normal tear and he had to get loads of surgeries but im not sure whats happening now, i'm gona read that

Propaganda just overall rocked.

I'm so stoked about seeing JF's return in this years movies.

really impressive! the only things i didnt like about these videos were the soundtracks- music was really shitty.

Yeah, any old video's of you skiing are great too! Anything pre-'gorilla-steeze', haha. JP's segment is being uploaded, soon!

JP Auclair - Propaganda

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ci1wht_LRp0

Aucliar just kills it. Haha, I just love the opening backflip, soooo gnarly. JP has never had a pro model... but the 720's could have been, he used them so much. Now THATS a rare ski nowadays. Notice that a lot of the rails appearing here also show up in Ski Porn... kinda cool he went back to these places. And yes, the bus stop rail - soooo nice. The hut to hut jump is also ridiculous, does anyone know where that was?

You guys really have to read that article that Mr. Bishop posted about Raps. I have been wondering for so long what happened to that guy, and now I know. I was cringing that whole time, just imagining the pain that he went through.

Yeah, a bunch of the rails from hsi part in Ski Porn were one's from Propaganda.

Pretty awesome IMO.

I love the vibe on the old school vids - no money to overproduce shit.

can anyone find me a clip of "Area 51" from TGR? I used to have that shit on VHS. This was before most mnts had terrain parks and back when us poor old guys had to learn 5s without twintips.

The first pocket rockets were JP's promodel. And, he has had a promodel (the JPJR) for awhile now.

I watched Warren Millers "Ride" from 2000 for the first time just a couple of nights ago - Tanner at 16, Raps, Douglas showing his D-Spin, Candide...

Aw man, Warren Miller... haha he jumped on the newschool boat a little late. But damn, I still can't believe that drop off the rail Tanner did.

wow i love this thread - we need some shots from royalty like Evan Dybvig - haven't seen these movies in so long we used to watch propoganda and royalty every day back at killy - before skiing, during lunch, and after skiing

anyway i cant wait until all these movies come out on freeskier.com like they said - i'm expecting them to come out sometime this summer hopefully

I really really really wanna, and with CR's segment and the base jumping one as well. But with MSP being douchebags recently and threatening legal action after I posted the trailer to the Seth Morrison Chronicles, I dont think it would be a good idea to put it on youtube.

that was a good read, I'm surprised he doesn't get more attention.when was it published? rossi is a great company to stick with him through that.
