Kessler is ~ 125lbs and is a Landseer Newfoundland. Like Boo who is damn cute btw he has some health issues and already has 1 bionic hip. But like most dogs a huge heart full of unconditional love. This is him on the way back from floating the MF of the Salmon river next to his hero Seaman the dog that helped discover/explore the west

The two litter mates that proceeded him were 140lb and 150lbs

All these dogs were/are certified therapy dogs they go to Shriners hospitals, old folks homes, juvie delinquent facilities and there is a cool program called R.E.A.D. where they go to schools/libraries and help dyslexcic kids read. The thousands of smiles these dogs have brought to people who are less fortunate is something that while small is hudge.

Newfs are bred for their gentle disposition and water rescue skills.

I heart these two pics the first one cause the older dog is putting the smackdown on the newb pup for acting like a goofy retard

and this one cause god doesn't count time spent fishing and anytime your in the water you know a newf's got your back

Wow, I really miss my dogs now. (I'm in Chile for 5 months on an exchange and my apartment building here doesn't allow pets.)

[warning, my personal dog sob story ahead] well I really only have one dog now. we used to have two, but my mom had to give away Bonnie, our border collie/lab mix. We adopted her about 2 years ago from a family whose kid had gone to my school and commited suicide, they couldn't handle having his dog around after he died. At first, we were going to just be a foster home for her, but we all got attached to her, and ended up keeping her. The only problem was that she and our other dog, Casey didn't get along well. they would get in fights if they were ever in high-emotion situations, like if there was a piece of food dropped, and one went for it, the other would try too, and they would end up in a fight. It always scared me because i HATE loud noises, and fighting of any kind, and it freaked my mom out too.
We tried to just keep them apart for a while, fed them in different rooms, didn't drop foods, or let them play too rambunctiously, but just every once in a while, they would fight. Eventually, around Christmas, they started fighting more often, and once while they were outside, Bonnie wouldn't stop, and we ended up having to take casey to the vet for stiches, she was on pain medication, the whole works.
My parents decided(without consulting me) to give her away, because they didnt want Casey to get hurt again. The worst part is, they didnt ever sit me down to talk about it, and i heard my mom talking to a friend's mom about giving Bonnie away before she even really told me. I got really really angry, and every time she talked about putting up an ad or about someone who wanted to come see her, i had to leave the room.
Once the guy actually came, I couldn't stand to be at the house while he and my mom were talking, so I drove to a friend's house. I had the intention of going back just as they left to say goodbye. My mom thought that me leaving meant I wanted to avoid actually saying goodbye, and they left while i was tearily watching Family Guy with my friend and her boyfriend. I rushed home to find out that the guy had laft 15 minutes ago, and broke down. My mom said that she would ask him to bring her to my soccer game near Seattle the next day, because he lived closer to there than to our house, outside of Bellingham. but they never did, and I never said goodbye. I really just...I dont know. it was hard. I dont think I talked to my parents more than necessary throughout the whole thing, and for aout 2 weeks after.

I can't find pics/i'm a noob at posting them, but Casey is a black lab that I've had since i was 7, super chill and bascially the best dog ever. And Bonnie, as i mentioned is half black lab half border collie, super smart, and the funnest to pet, if you guys know what i am talking about, some dogs are just fun to pet, you know?

WOW that is so weird, my grandfather has had two dogs since i have been born, both he named duke and both were of the same breed as the dog you have. it's a weird coincidence you have named your dog duke +k for a good choice and a dope dog hahah
