Possible move to Portland

So me and a couple buddies have been looking for a place to move to for the next 2 years or so.

Portland popped into our heads because of the location and how great people talk it up to be.

A couple questions I have for you locals is, whats the cost of living like out there? How is your rental prices? Can you get a decent house for 3 for a reasonable price? How is the job market? Are there jobs available that will pay for rent/food/car insurance/phone bill/beer? Hows the bar scene out in portland, and how are the people?

2 of us ski and all 3 of us long board, by the time we would move out there we all will be 21 so we are just looking for a good fun 2 years in a completely different part of the country (we are all from Minnesota).

Also is there casinos in Oregon?

Thanks guys!

beer

and yes there are casinos in oregon.not in portland proper only on "injun land" about 40 min drive.. or go up to la center. ...

you should move to p-town. its the shit

its more fun than minnesota. I just got back from a trip there. that place is so flat. the city is cool but I would say Portland is much cheaper when it comes to alcohol and other amenities. and you can buy beer in supermarkets. I would recommend a move

3 people, on what part of town? North/East Portland is definitely more ghetto than West/South. Though, East is the closest route to Hood, since you have to take Highway 26 through Gresham to Sandy, out to Welches. South you gotta take 212 from the I-205, and its a bit of a detour. I'm in NE Portland, because I wanted to be somewhat close to getting to the mountain. NE Alberta isn't bad area, and Hollywood district is pretty cool too. SW and NW Portland are where it's really nice, the place I'd reccomend for my parents if they wanted to move here, etc. Portland State is in downtown Portland, close to SW and NW technically. Don't live in Beaverton or Hillsboro, way too out of the loop for me personally. Tigard/Tualatin isn't bad I guess.
3 people for rent you're looking at around 1200 a month for a nicer place, no big deal. Can get apartments for 900/month, though a bit more ghetto. You can get a restaurant job somewhere and make pretty good money. I work around 5 days a week and make around 2200 a month, rent for me is 400, so I've got extra coin.
The bar scene is huge here, beer is king. You won't find another city that can beat Portland on that respect. Furthermore, there's a ton of great food here.
Skiing isn't that far away, and the drive is super melow, almost no mountain driving at all.
I moved here recently from OC, California and love it. There's plenty of women and its not as liberal as the rest of the country makes it out to be. Yeah, its definitely not my mindset of Republican, but whatever.
GLUCK!

Sparknotes-Portland

People- Hipsters

Social- (in my opinion)

NoPo-ghetto

NEPo-ghetto (mostly)

SEPo- middle class

SWPo- middle class/ some super rich people in Lake Oswego

Pearl district (downtown)- Really rich hipsters (if hipsters can actually have money)

Bars- theres tons of weird bars ranging from high class bars to hipster "I knew about this bar before it was cool" bars to homeless people hangouts.

Thanks for the info guys really helps.

We are all settled on portland now its time to find a job that will pay the bills and have some left over for fun.
