Posers

its FREEskiing, do what you want and be straight about it. dont be hatin on other kids because im sure you were at that point once. unless your some duesch bag that payed your way, alot of kids do it and i just dont belive in that being the right way to start the sport, at a point it will happen but you need to learn the sport first.

its still like that at my hill. My hill is a shitty hill in souther ontario probly 200 vert and dominated by snowboarders (not necessarly a bad thing) so its rare to find a skier. But all the skiers know eachother at my hill so its all good

this thread makes me feel all warm inside

everyones opinions are positive and promote acceptance, something that ns really needs

i cant throw a 3, i suck at park, i'll admit it, but, i can ski everywhere else. are you talking about posers in general, or posers in the park. i may look like a poser in the park, but out of it is another story.

yeah...if i see a kid thats not as good as me and they are having trouble with something, i try to help them to progress. When i was where they were in ski ability, i would have wanted some help from someone better than me. So now i give what i would want if i were in that situation.

yea its great when someone clearly better than you gives pointers when ur trying something. i always give tips to kids who are struggling with a trick.

i have a snowboarder friend like that who just calls out other kids with good burton boards or whatever if they aren't that good, truth is the kid who calls ppl out really isn't that good either...i think everyone starts as a "poser" if your just beginning a sport or trying to progress, as long as kids who are going out there having fun, and supporting the ski industry and what we do to me is a winner

I think this thread is great. I am probably what you would think of as a poser, but that's just because i got into freeskiing this year, and i suck.

I have the gear, and the drive, so the skills will come. I think there are lots of skiers like me who are new.

i just get bummed when kids have dope stuff but dont try. because i dont understand how kids can be like ya i have a dope setup but whatever i ski for fun. when they dont ski, they just sit down and watch others. the fun in skiing is learnign new stuff. and a lot of times i think that kids who look really sick but really arent that good feel like they need to uphold this sick skier image and dont want to be caught falling or trying basic stuff.

buying ski gear doesnt make you a poser! buying xxxl ski gear does. ....... or the people who hated on no-poles last season and this season run no poles!

I agree man. I have way more respect for a kid that throws pencil threes but actually progresses and tries to improve, then a kid who throws down the exact same cork 7 on every run, not perfecting just doing it cause he knows he can, day in day out same shit. The first kid is probably gonna come back every weekend to perfect his threes and work on that shit day in day out.

I think a kid who actually tries shit can rock whatever he wants I don't give a shit, he can rock oakley everything, but a kid who just talks about what he's about to throw but never actually does it, that's when i got a problem(I don't actually calls these kids out. It just kills me on the inside).

Great thread man.

I agree with you every bit on that. But, theres this kid Ive talked to that skis my mt. and wheres baggy clothes and is really cocky and hot headed. He claims he can do a whole bunch of stuff then says he has to meet a friend at the chair before he can prove it. Not to mention hes got top of line oakley crap that makes him stand out. I dont like those kind of posers

This thread is so so def.

I totally agree, although I do have a couple gripes.

1)I hate when people stand on the run/jump/landing. I know that they don't really know any better but when you need to keep speed or have to wait for that kid to stop playing on the jump or slide down the landing on his butt, it really gets old.

2)I hate seeing racer kids go through the park and just...race. They cruise through with their spandex that their mommys put on and ruin the jumps. They blast over all the jumps to the rails and just go off to the side. It's like they come to the one place that we have even though the rest of the mountains are full of what they want. I bet they would be pissed if we grinded their gates during a race.

3)I really hate kids who act better than you just because they are on their home mt or are with their crew. I know their are kids who think they are better than everyone else because they hit the same run every saturday at their local resort and will charge acting tough when they can't ski worth a rental pole. The same thing applies to people in other sports. I was at the skate park just playin in the bowls and the rails and skateboarders would come up to me and tell me how good they were at blading or be all like "whats up bro" because i wasn't on a board. All I could think about is how much better I could wipe their snot noses with my skis any day.

Anyways, this stuff really pisses me off. Even sitting here feeling relaxed from this wonderful thread.

So in conclusion:

Watchers, keep safe distance from the obstacles and make sure to go with the flow of the ski traffic in the parks.

Racers, if you wanna come in to our park, do it not as a racer. Take off the razor blades and try a box, don't run it over going 60, and don't carve down our inruns.

And Haters.... someday you'll get whats coming to you.

Ski and let Ski, fo sho

very well said, i toatlly agree, its just the typical case of gerralizations, and just cuz there's some rich kids that have their mommy and daddy buy them stuff doesn't mean taht every kid with nice gear is that same way.

no, I wouldnt consider you a poser at all, unless you are like "did you guys see my sweet cork 9" when you just told us all that you cant do a 3.

In addition to what I earlier said, I also consider sommeone a poser if they always bitch about an injury they sustained 2 years prior that is disabling them from doing anything cool. If you dont have the balls not to do something, then admit it, you'll look cooler admiting it than making up some bullshit about how you twisted your shoulder 3 years ago, so your not going to try the rail. I cut

in my leg, and you know what I did? I skiid down to ski patrol to get some stiches. I was pissed because I didnt get to ski for 2 weeks without a hole in my leg popping open. 2 weeks later, I started just where I left off. being more cautious, of course, but not really holding anything back. I wasnt really trying certain things, but I wasnt being a pussy.

Being a poser is thinking you are tough shit, and telling people that you are tough shit, when in reality, you arnt.

Thats graphic dude. There should be a mod on how graphic injuries can be cuz thats just sick. It looks like the inside of a sloth

I rock Oakley head to toe, save the Giro G10MX Audio, and SPK's. I cant 270 on or out, or 360, shit I cant do much of anything. I dont even bother with jumps, I havent hit anything over 20 feet since 2 seasons ago. I paid for my shit, I like to think I'm supporting the industry. Besides, I'm usually cameraman, I bet I get some funny looks when I try to ski.a

Does anybody really have a good reason to give a flying fuck what kind of gear somebody else has?

NO.

^Does this mean if I post my pic from a laceration with my head taped to an operating bed recieving stitches on my ear without anesthetic makes me legit? No. We all (should)have battle scars if you are progressing. Save your battle stories 4 the ladies, I don't need to see that shit. Or, you could call Jacobi and get yourself airtime on SCARRRRRRED!!

BTW this thread had a good vibe and should be sticky.

not gonna lie. i suck at park but just started this year and sometimes people are hatin but all your doing is trying to have fun. thats what skiing is all about and i'va had people help me wit tricks and stuff and thats tight but people who just rip on kids cus they have better gear or they suck at skiing are just gay

I agree 99%. The only thing i disagree with is when you said that 'yes, sometimes kids don't ski more than 5 days a year and still mommy and daddy buy em stuff'...

Even still, so what? maybe if they get new stuff every year, it might piss me off. But only does

it really start to piss me off is when they start acting all hard about their stylish looks.

But seriously, if you ever see a kid who looks scared shitless of something, or if you see them hit something and they suck at it, why wouldn't you just stop by them and give them some advice? Or a pointer in the right direction?

How would you feel if you ate shit tryin' something, and all the people that you look up to in the park (cuz they're good and steezy) just start rippin you apart? Prob pretty bad. That would also cause you to be more scared of it, and to not get better, and to just make you an even bigger poser.

Now, how about if you eat shit and then some guy who you think is the sickest guy ever, comes over to you and just says 'Hey man, why don't you try a lower stance on that one.' or 'Hey that was a good effort. next time, try coming in with a little more speed and confidence, and you should be able to nail it!'

All it takes is a little effort to ski down the run and stop by them...

theres this snowboarder in my grade, and last year he told me he was sponsored by redbull and shit. he said he had videos of him doing a double backflip and shit, but he "happened" to lose it, so i couldnt watch. then one day i had him come over to sesh my box, and he was too afraid to go down my drop in, after 20 mins he finally got the balls up, but couldnt even get 1/2 the rail. soo gay.

I defintely agree sean...and i am as guilty as EVERYONE out there...but there are some kids who just piss me off...like i know kids who ski everyday and over the past 2 years havent improved once...it just makes me wanna puke

anyway i agree and i am definetly a culprit and shhouldnt care

and sometimes i just cruise the park too cause i dont feel like doing shit

I agree, but lets be honest, I still hate.

I don't hate on kids who suck, but I hate on kids who do stupid, disrespectful shit to the sport, the people, and the mountain.

You slideslip my line...You get hated on.

You ruin the landing on the cliff band you SAW me getting ready to hit...you get hated on.

Your fat ass can't move quickly on narrow traverses and fuck everybody else's speed up...You get hated on.

You can't hear me when I'm blowing past you on cat tracks and damn near cut me off...you get hated on.

You get the point.

If you're paying attention and showing respect to those around you, and you're HAVING FUN...

you get blunted...

The is no room for hate just think back to when you started skiing in the park. You probobly were itimidated by kids throwin down and you didnt want to get made fun of for falling trying to slide a rail for the first time or you are trying to get comfortable with spining. Help them out, then they wont feel left out and affraid just because people that have been skiing longer or stuff like. give them a few pointers maybe ski with them who knows you make some friends o know i have.

i dont really give if someones a poser. we all had to start somewhere. and i dont think we should stereotype people for having nice ski gear
