Posers

Alright let me start this off by saying that a few months ago I remember EastCoast_destruction making a thread about how many posers he sees in the park and how aggrivated it made him (sorry dude not trying to call you out... just an example). I've seen statements like this made by a ton of people, and it kind of pisses me off.

Although there are certain exceptions, but I don't see why kids have to be dicks to other kids just because they aren't as good as them but may have better gear. For all you know, that kid might have bagged groceries all summer to pay for his Oakley suit and T-Hall's. Just because he can't slide rails as good as you or can't do certain jumps doesn't mean you have the right to call him a poser. Most kids I know get pissed at the kids that just stand there and watch but don't hit anything, but the reason they don't hit anything is because they are afraid of falling and getting shit from other kids. And yes, I know in some instances there are kids that ski less than 5 times a year but have mommy and daddy buy all this new gear for them... but how are you to know who paid for this kid's stuff if you've never even talked to him before?

I'm sorry that I suck at explaining things because it's kind of hard, but I think we should all just ski and let ski. And not care about the bullshit things like how some kids don't use poles and some kids suck at skiing but have dope set-ups.

Feel free to say your opinions... that's just my two cents.

yo i agree. but the biggest thing that does piss me off is when they say they wont slide because they don want to scratch their skis

I remember i used to get pissed about it too, but now i don't care. I think if kids wanna wear oakley shit let them, and if kids wanna wear some gaper shit, let them. If you go visit like PC or Keystone, you def see kids that you're talking about, and its all good because they usually aren't where you are.

yeah, i agree..u did a nice job of summing it all up. Just ski and have fun, and dont be assholes to other guys on the mountain unless they are complete douchebags. I know of a few...

Exactly, my thoughts are as long as you are trying nobody has the right to call you a poser... it could be trying your first rails or landing your first 360 to trying pretzels on a box... it doesn't matter because your still trying. It shouldn't be that you have to be good enough just to be skiing on Armada's. And if people still want to give you shit for that, well fuck them.

thats how i feel aswell. thats why u should always talk to kids and just start constructive conversations. if its clear that a kid is just standing at a rail while kids just bomb through throwing 270 ons its kinda intimidating. i usually try to offer other kids to go first. i was just skating with my friend at a skatepark like 2 weeks ago and some kid that was better then my friend and he is pretty good just started being a dick. he had like 7 of his friends there and it was just me and Matt. so a 7 vs 2 fight would not end up in our favor. so since i suck at skating i sorta just sat on the other end because i didnt want to get made fun off or start anything. i usaully just cruz around in parks doing easy stuff like manuals on manual boxes and shit. so this is an example of if ur good u shouldnt be a dick because kids around u get shy and dont want to go out there and just do there thing. i fuckin hated this kid and if he wasnt with 7 of his friends my buddy and i would have had fucked him up. hes a good skater but when ur clearly better then most kids in a park you gotta man up and show some respect towards kids that might not be at the same level as you are.

agreed skiing is a sport about having fun and being with your friends and just enjoying the time out there. life is short tot spend our time making fun of people its pointless

You know what, no matter how good or bad you are, you're still supporting the industry and what we all love. If someone wants to spend a fuckload on new skis every year and ride them only once, go for it, they're helping the companies that make our sport possible.

Exactly. Like it or not, freeskiers are a community. Why not take a few minutes out of your day and help out a kid who is having trouble with rails. I'm sure a kid that has never done a rail before would be pretty scared if he sees a group of kids throwing down pretzels and crowns... but it would be a huge help if you just said what's up and told him to keep his weight center or whatever. It's things like that that make us skiers a community.

Sorry for the postwhorage in here too, this is my last one I swear.

There was a thread about some kid who wanted oakley antifreeze pants but he was too woried if he was good enough to rock em. Why should kids be afraid of wearing dope shit skiing. If you like them enough to buy em then no one should tell you your not good enough to wear something that bright.

I have the bright green Axis suit, and i'm terrrrrrrible. I just like it cause it's bright. Also, Backountry.com fucked up the order and sent pants instead of the jacket, and sent the jacket on top of it and never asked for the pants back. I got free pants.

Like i got mad respect for kids that try their best at something like a flat rail that to me is super easy. it just sucks when u have kids that diss some skiers that are new and may have this years brand ski. no one wants shit gear cuz if u have shitty gear then u dont have confidence. and confidence is huge when ur skiing.

However, I hate those guys who do suck and talk them selves up like they are big shit. I like to get pumped too when I'm stomping by tricks, but I respect others and know that I am nothing compared to lots of kids that wont ever be pros, let alone pros. I think skiers need to look out more for other skiers and rock postive vibes for other skiers.

Yeah dude I feel the same way, let people get whatever gear they want...and as long as people like this dont bitch at me or get in my way and shit I am fine with people like this.

this is one of the most legit threads ive seen in a while. well said. when i was starting out i was scared shitless to try new tricks. not because i didnt want to get hurt but because i didnt want people to make fun of me. sad but true this is what holds alot of people back.

I see a poser more of as a claimer. someone who claims to do all this shit, but it always happens on the run you didnt see, or when your head was turned. I knew this one dude, he was a snowboarder, but he would claim tough shit. Sometimes, he would ditch us for a run, come back, and say "dude, did you guys see my cork 5?" and we are like "no, we have never seen you go off a jump" and he would be like "Oh, well it was sick, everyone clapped cause I got all corked out". Well this transfers over to skiers I know. skiers who always feel like informing you of what they are throwing on that rail, or that jump. "Ive been sticking cork 9s all day, and pretzels on that rail". Its like, cool dude, I dont care.

NOW, its different if you landed something for your first time and you get stoked on it. I claim when its my first time and I get stoked on it. Even if a kid lacks certain skiing ability, if he slides a box, and is excited enough to tell me about it, and how sick it was, that is tight. Everyone can share the stoke of skiing, and having sweet clothes doesnt make you a poser. Sure, if your poor it might make you jealous, but it doesnt make the dude with the sweet shit that cant do a 3 a poser. It just makes him a financial beneficiary to the sport.

I hate it when people do the whole "back in the day" thing...but it really applies here.

When I started skiing in the park, it was a lot different. If you saw someone on twintips, they were automatically your buddy, because hardly anyone had them at all. That was kind of nice in a way. People are still friendly for the most part though.

i dunno everyone on here has agreed with you 100%...so why is there still the need to make these threads if, it seems like, everyone on this site hates people who talk shit?

I get along with most others most of the time.

I agree, posers are the ones who are claiming shit. If you're trying, not claiming, even if you aren't that great I have no problem with you at all (unless you're doing 50-50s on the boxes that shit just pisses me off).

If someone goes around making up shit, saying their sponsored and all this bullshit then they're a poser. Basically liars are posers in my book.

skiing shud be free from all the dissing n shit. we shud all jus support each otha n encourage each otha to progress at what ever level they r at. hu gives a shit if hes got betta gear than u but is as good a skier. if u diss people u will discourage people from skiing which wud jus be gay. we need all the support we can get.

jus encourage everyone you c. give em a thumbs up. then there confidence will grow n so will there skiing skills.

With out kids like this ther ewould be no pro skiers no up and coming ski companies, not clothing companies and no movie companys its people like this that will buy a pro model ski, go buy a certain hoodie casue Tanner or mikeal rock it, its people that actually arent teh best skiers in the world that keep the ski industry going, Most sick sick skiers are sposnored (in some cases this is not so) so they arent out there buying the products that make the pro skiers money its the people that are the up and comers, teh ex snowboarders and the kooks, i used to hate seeing kook skiers with twin tips and baggy pants i thougth it made skiing look bad bu tthen I relized this is why snowboarding it soo big , and surfing.. so there not posers just becasue there that good at skiing there just trying to be like there idols and rock the stuff they do, the money these people put into skiing makes it all possible dont be a hater... though people that cant ski , skiing big mountain stuff piss me of only for the fact that they have no Avalance awareness and put others at risk.

posers shouldn't be allowed to ski. they suck so they shoudl give up. if they aren't better than me i dont have respect for them so if your readin this i probably dont have respect for you noob. i am bterter than you get a life you loser ass geekzor

they may not be a poser but i hate it when kids kang and dont grab it so it looks like they are just kicking in the air

soooo true. i myself was never a boarder, and used to be, along with my friend, some of the only skiers in the park. as soon as another skier was found, we were immediately good friends, talked, and tried to help eachother out and have fun, regardless of ability.

i was lucky to be the beneficiary of many of these conversations. when i was a beginner, I made a point of trying to talk to all the kids skiing in the park and get advice, starting from sliding rails to 5s in the pipe. if it werent for these kids, i may never have gotten past the "standing in the park, watching" phase.

that said, there are clearly groups, even gangs, of skiers that clearly exclude themselves from any interaction with others on the slope and are the first to make fun of the new kids. i can see kids just shrink away in fear and embarasment, and it really is not cool.

great thread sean, everything youve said is true.

agreed. I do hate when kids throw around the word poser all of the time. Its not cool to be dicks to the kids you were talking about.

However, It is easy to see why a skiier would be worried, because look what happened with snowboarding after it got huge. The mountain had a bunch of kids who bought rediculous shit before they had ever snowboarded more than a month, who were claiming like crazy, and were completely obnoxious. These kids made the legit boarders look like assholes.

So basicly, I dont hate kids who buy rediculous gear, and who arent that great, because Ill be honest, Im not an amazing skiier and I have foils, But I'm not a claimer. Everybody has to start somewhere, and Im cool with them, as long as they arent claiming assholes.

so true.

sometimes when you go up and talk to the posers or gapers they're actually cool kids and sometimes you can help em out with getting shit down like rals or jumps

People can rock what they want and I could care less, infact i would give them props on their shit even if they sucked. Its the people who are cocky and couldnt do a ride on box if their life depended on it and rock rentals that bother me. oh yeah, and the parents that bring their kids in the park with leashes on. (this probably isnt a problem at bigger mts but around NY it is). and kids that snake. Have respect and get respect.

im a poser

and i talk to everyone on twins that i see

if you ever meet me, ill probably make you feel awkward

hahaha

i know what you mean about the parents man, its like if they go on the landing and you almost hit them the parents yell at you for not seeing them when there is no way you can see over the lip, that shit pisses me off big time

i dont care. to learn new tricks i just go for them. although usually i land my shit first try, and never again, so it works out i guess

ya, its just like the people who ski like once a year and go super slow like stopping at the lip of a jump or hitting the run ups to rail. The ones that arent good, but at least try to make themselves better and not be gay are sweet, you gotta support these kinda kids.

couldnt agree more. my one buddy is afraid to hit stuff because he doesnt want to get made fun of for falling. i really dont care because at least im trying, and am probably better than the faggots making fun of me. and if people would realize that it doesnt matter what your wearing it would be much nicer. like i know if i sucked i wouldnt want to look like an idiot dressed in hunting clothes...
