What are some of the best reasons to live in Portland, OR. I'm in the process of choosing what city/school I want to do an exchange at from my home campus of University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. I've heard nothing but good things about Portland, but I want some more opinions on the place.

What does the city have to offer (good or bad) to someone coming to live there? I'd be looking to ski at Mt. Hood, see music, longboard all over the city, and whatever else there is to do!
 
Its smaller than Seattle, but way more connected and friendly. Instead of crazy views, water and vistas that you get with Seattle, you get awesome neighborhoods, a plethora of amazing shops, communities and things to do, and you get Hood in the summer. Generally, its a bit of a slower life that bigger and busier cities, but its a good place for sure.
