Big up to John Chapman

Adrian -

This is John Chapman - the owner of Porters and our website porterstahoe.com.

A

friend of mine just pointed out your post on newschoolers to me and my

jaw dropped to the ground. I am totally stunned as to what happened to

your order. That is completely unacceptable regardless of the reasons

why it happened.

I understand, of course, if you won't shop with

us again. Regardless if you will or not, I am more than just not

charging you for your shipping now.......you can have the three

bindings and three sets of extra wide brakes ALL FOR FREE.

I was told that all of your stuff did finally ship today, so you should see it in a couple of weeks at the latest.

Again, I can't say I'm sorry enough for how badly your order got screwed up.

While

we've been a shop for almost 50 years now, we're just starting our

second year online and still do not officially ship internationally.

What started as something that we were trying to be nice and make an

exception for turned into a fiasco for you.......and me.....

Once more, I apologize. Please enjoy the free bindings and brakes on me.

John Chapman

wow that's awesome...that is what you would call good business....now every kid is going to ship internationally from them and pray to god they mess up again so they can get their stuff for free.

Wow thats sick. I've never considered shopping from them online but I might take a glance or two after reading that.

Such a sweet shop. Thats fucking awesome how the President of the company takes time outta his day to do that. Very classy.

Now thats how you do business....and great advertising and PR at the exact same time. Just from that post I know I will consider using Porters from now on, b/c that was bad ass.

I'm glad this got rectified because everything else I'd heard about this shop seemed to be great. Glad everything worked out, and major props to you for letting him know you guys care.

This shop is definitely legit. I have been to the shop in Truckee and north shore. props for taking care of the customer.

haha, he will earn more off this than the three sets of bindings cost him, and i applaud him for it. good business/customer service, and this kid gets hooked up.

damn to bad alpinewarehouse.com isnt like that. (linked off from christys sports) after a month of my jacket not showing up i called them and asked them what was up they said it ended up goign to some sale in utah. they were able to find it in utah and ship it to me like a week later - but still - full charge and shit. WEAK.

holy shit, thats alot of shit for free......that guy was really sympatheic too, 3 sets of bidnngds and wide brakes, what a guy!

lets just hope the kid who got 3 free bindings is half as generous and does something nice with them instead of trying to rip kids off with it. Not saying he will, probably wont, but just gotta watch out

And.. the winner of the "best shop in tahoe" thread goes to... PORTERS!

Wow.. that makes me kinda envious.. because I happen to think that my shop, owned by SSV, would never do such a thing even if it did have an online store. It would probably be more like getboards (only not rip as many folks off...)

porters is the shit! i bought most of my setup this year at like 60 percent off in the summer. free shipping, they throw in a lot of stickers, a dvd, a mousepad, and a belt. how fucking sick is that?

i just got a PM from a man at Porters and for saying what i said in this thread i just got a code for 10% off anything!

Now anything i buyonline will be from Porters

That is fuckin sick. Customer service is soooo important now days. I'd rather pay higher prices and have excellent customer service and warranty than have shit customer service.

yeah he gave me 10% code too. but for some weird reason, his karma is 0. wtf? i gave him 10/10, but he doesnt have any posts so how could he have a karma of 0?

yeah everyone dropped a bunch, but i noticed that people that rarely post didn't lose karma because no one had rated them. so how did he lose 50?

Alright everyone -

Since I got quoted to start this whole thread, I figured that I'd finally put in my two cents. I just thought that I'd address what skibum said here - and what could potentially be said about anything that I might post. I know on here and most other community forums that people aren't down with a shop self-promoting or only posting when it's the almighty $$ that they're after. And I totally agree. It's shallow and doesn't show that you're contributing to the sport of skiing and the greater good other than to get people to give you money.

Several of my employees finally talked me into joining NS though. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to post in my hectic schedule, but I REALLY appreciate the kind words that have been said about me personally as well as the shop and all of my employees. Trust me when I say that we are a family-run business with key employees having an ownership stake and say in the biz who are all extremely passionate about snow. And we fully understand that in today's internet age that you can buy shit pretty much anywhere, so we are truly thankful for the support that we get from customers such as NS members. However, that's ultimately where the $$'s come into play and when motives can be questioned.

For myself and my employees and Porters, though, the $$'s come second. What's first is the experience that you have on snow - rather it is on skis, on a snowboard, in the park, in the pipe, in the trees, in the backcountry, or even in your backyard sliding a rail that you and your buddies built. Skiing should be about having FUN and - as I say on our homepage - that natural high that you get out on snow.

So ultimately whether you buy from us or the folks up at evogear or wherever, I only urge the NS community to give their $$'s to shops that you can tell give a damn about the future of skiing - and your total experience as a shopper. As I like to say around Porters, our goal is not just good customer service, rather it's to create raving fans.

So with all of that as a caveat (and if you're still reading), just as a total thanks and appreciation for the NS community, from now through the end of the this month, anyone can use the promo code "MEATLOAF" to get an extra 10% off the existing sale prices at www.porterstahoe.com . No restrictions on usage, and it's always free freight on purchases over $50.

Thanks again all, seriously, for the props. I hope that you all have a great rest of the winter!
